  • Possible to watch BluRays on my HDTV through my MacBook?

I'm wondering if using a mini display port to HDMI (with Audio) cable connected to my HDTV, that I could use my MacBook with an external BluRay drive and the MacGo software to play the BluRay on my TV. Would this work? I don't see any reason why it wouldn't but just like to be sure before I spent £75 on an external BluRay Drive.

  • How to insert a double flared silicone solid plug?

I stretched my ear recently to 8mm with a taper, I also purchased a double flared silicone solid plug to put in after however I'm having trouble inserting it. It is squishy but it seems impossible to compress it whilst trying to insert it, and the ends are at least 10mm if not more. I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to insert them was?

  • How to connect a Shure PG48 Microphone to a MacBook?

I want to start doing some recording on my MacBook and editing it and wondered what equipment I'd need to record vocals. I was thinking of starting cheap and getting a Shure PG48 as Shure are a good brand but I don't need to be spending too much yet. But what equipment would I need to connect it to the new MacBook (Spring 2010)?

  • RAM Freeing Software For Mac?

I've recently purchased a Unibody MacBook with 2GB of RAM as I couldn't afford 4GB within my budget however after running web browsers for a couple of hours a lot of my RAM is used up so I kill the browser but similar to the iPhone not all the memory returns back to being free. Through the day this seems to build up so then I have to reboot my machine.

I was wondering is there a way to free RAM that's not being used like you can on the iPhone?

  • A good log to any base calculator?

  • The best current netbook to run Mac OS X on?

I don't currently have enough money to buy a MacBook although I am saving but want to get a netbook for the time being which I can run Mac OS X on. However most of the guides are for older netbooks and I was wondering just at the minute what is the best netbook to run Mac OS X on?

I wanted to get a Lenovo S10-2 but the Boing Boing article said it wasn't very good at all for running the software.

  • Which would be the best option for gaming?

I want to build a decent gaming desktop from scratch, I've been looking around and trying to decide what would be best.

I would like to be able play Crysis (along with some other games, but this is the main one), which I know is a demanding game even at todays standards but won't need it on full AA etc. as I'll be happy with it looking good and running well.

I'm not sure if I should get a:

    - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz Socket 775 1333FSB 4MB L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor

    or

    - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Socket 775 (3.0GHz) 1333FSB 6MB L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor

I know the Core2Duo is quicker and it's easily overclocked up to about 4GHz so would this be the better option, considering it's also slightly cheaper?

Also what GPU would you reccomend? I was looking in the £80-£150ish range but if you have one that would just be more worthwhile then say that one. I was looking at the Point Of View GTX260 Premium 216Core 896MB DDR3 Dual DVI PCI-E Graphics Card, which costs £150.

    I'll be getting 4GB of PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM. Which is £80.

If I want to overclock the Core2Duo CPU what motherboard would you reccomend and what PSU and cooling system (or if theres a case with a good PSU and cooling system built in), as I don't have much knowledge when it comes to this part.

Your help would be grateful. If you have a better set up idea then please feel free to share, any ideas will help.

  • Will this microphone be any good for my pocket cam?

I'm going to be getting a Kodak Zi8 soon and I was looking for a low budget microphone to replace the low quality microphone that's in-built.

    http://www.cybermarket.co.uk/ishop/923/shopscr3822...

What do you think of the microphone? Is it worth it and is there a better one out there that doesn't cost too much.

It's mainly going to be used for making YouTube videos and for recording gig's so it has to have a decent quality but not be too big.

  • America to UK postage service for stores that don't ship to UK?

I've heard of a service before but forgot the name but basically some online stores in america do not ship to UK addresses so instead what you do is send it to that place, they charge a little for the service and send it to you where ever you are in the world.

I was just wondering if anyone can remember the name of a service such as this?

  • Help with some physics questions?

I've just been attempting some physics questions and just want to check my answers to see if there accurate.

    Here's the question:

    1. A 24W set of Christmas tree lights has 20 lamps in series worked from a 120V supply.

    a. What is the current through the lamps?

    b. What is the potential difference (voltage) across one lamp?

    c. What is the power transferred to each lamp?

I've got some answers but would like to check them.

Also I wasn't sure on this:

Q: A car is traveling along the road with 40,000J of kinetic energy. The brakes are applied and it comes to rest in 20m.

    a. Calculate the average braking force?

    b. What happens to the kinetic energy?

Working out will help in case I've got it wrong so that I can realize where I went wrong.

  • A good wireless microphone to use with a video camera?

I'm purchasing a Kodak Zi8 pocket video camera and I've read on reviews that, as usual, the in-built microphone audio quality is terrible so I'm looking to invest into some wireless microphone gear.

I think a lapel microphone will be best to use as it will be for making short videos and mini films.

Can anyone recommend a good microphone that is wireless and is it possible to have multiple microphones going to a single device or would other hardware be needed (and is it supported on the Kodak Zi8)

Links and any info is helpful.
