If I am using a basic periodic inventory system, how should inventory donations made to charities be recorded?

I know of two alternatives to do so, please confirm or correct me if I am wrong:

1) Do not enter any entry into the books, the donation will be automatically subtracted from cost of goods sold and net income will be affected accordingly. (Is this allowed by GAAP?)

2) Create a Charitable Donations account, donations will debit Charitable Donations account and Credit COGS (since this is a periodic inventory system, we cannot directly decrease inventory)

Taxes purposes aside, is there any advantage or disadvantage in in using either method? Also, should we use alternative 2, how will charitable donations be used to reduce taxable net income and should it be closed at end of fiscal year?

An example of a question going from poisson information to an exponential distribution would be something like: In a hockey game the team scores 10 goals in 100 games,what is the probability that the first goal is scored in less than 5games.. In this case, the lambda is 1/10 and we can simply do P(x<5) = e^(-.25*5).

HOWEVER, a slight variation... what if the question asked what is the probability that the first 2 goals are scored in less than 5 games?

In supermarkets and general stores, there are a lot of items labeled "organic" (e.g. organic pears, organic squash, even organic dish soap). I am wondering do any if not all of these labels really have a scientific meaning behind it or is the word "organic" just added to make the product seem nicer?

Friends have told me "organic products" are items not treated with chemicals; but in a chemistry sense, is there a set definition of "organic?"

Any source references that can clear it up would also be great. Thanks in advance.

If two conductors were side by side and one conductor had a current via the battery and the other was conneted to a galvanometer (hence both have complete circuits), when the switch of the battery connected cicuit was closed, due to magnetic induction, which direction would the second conductor (with no direct current) have the current flow.

I have heard a lot about the latest hype "Facebook" found at www.facebook.com. I heard it was a hybrid of myspace, blogging, and instant messaging. When I tried to sign up, it asked for my company name or school and also needed an invite. However when I type in the school and or business it gave me random names I didnt see before. I would really appreciate anyone who could give me an introduction to this service.

Please include:

-How do you sign up if you dont know the people supposedly in your school/business.

-Once signed in, can you access all users of facebook or only those of your school/business.

-Is there any other way to sign up.

-Any noteable features of Facebook.

Recently I installed ZoneAlarm Firewall and for some reason, it often causes problems showing "This Page cannot be displayed." I did not block access to any websites though I may have accidentally blocked my own. Currently ZoneAlarm is not installed on my pc so i have no firewall, is there a way to fix this? As well, others are no longer able to connect to my ip. What factors might prevent me from allowing others to connect with my IP? (I.E. for Gaming).
