  • Need to gain weight? Help please!?

Okay so a bit of background info.. I'm 16, 5 ft 4 and a bit and recently my weight has dropped to 7 stone 4, as I experienced several severe anxiety attacks during the past few weeks. Before this I was 7 stone 8 but my weight was not budging upwards, instead it decides to plummet down.

I am SCARED of being underweight and it takes me about half a year to put on half a stone. I hate it.

When I look in the mirror I don't like what I see, I feel fine and energised but feel like I need to gain weight urgently. I am eating fine now, but when I have the anxiety it really makes me lose my appetite. I have signed up for yoga classes and I walk everywhere but that's about as much exercise as I get.

I have always been quite skinny, I have only ever been above 8 stone when I was going through puberty but then when I got anxiety it fell to about 7 st 11 and has been fluctuating from that to 7 st 8 for about 2 years.

My dad's side of the family has always been really almost abnormally skinny and can eat and eat and eat and hardly ever gain weight. My mum's side has suffered anxiety disorders. Do you see the link?

Even now my dad is about 5 ft 9/10 and only weighs 10 stone 4..

But yeah I have no idea how I should gain weight with a really fast metabolism and anxiety? My doctor says I look a healthy weight and I don't look ill but I think otherwise.

  • Panic Attack???????????

    Hey all.

Last night I had possibly the worst experience of my life. I was sitting down normally when all of a sudden I start thinking about breathing. I then began almost hyperventilating and I could not sit still. I started sweating and my limbs felt all tingly and heavy. I've never had anything like this before, and it was really, really scary. I am only 15, and I felt like I was going to collapse. I tried relaxing but it just didn't work.

I also suffer from OCD and health anxiety, so I jump to conclusions about the slightest things. My mind was whirling with the possibilities of a heart attack or some kind of asthma attack even though I don't have asthma.

It went on through the night and I just couldn't get to sleep. Now I feel a bit sick.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

  • Help with hypochondria please?

So I'm 15 years old and have always been a bit of a 'health freak' if you like. There are loads of things which have triggered it and almost all of one side of my family has it. I self examine myself to check for major illnesses, and I find it really difficult to talk about it. I find myself constantly searching symptoms online, and my mind memorises them etc etc. Then I won't stop thinking about it for ages and it's like.. my body mimics them. But I know there's nothing wrong because I mainly show signs of anxiety.. not an illness. But my mind won't shut up about it. It won't take 'you're fine' for an answer. But then, if I don't think about it, everything goes and I feel fine. But as soon as I focus on a symptom, that symptom somehow makes itself apparent to me. What makes it worse is I also have obsessive compulsive disorder, and I know I do; thinking intrusive thoughts and having to perform rituals, or these thoughts will become reality.

    My main question is,

Is it normal for someone with healthy anxiety's body to mimic symptoms?

    thanks.

  • French grammar question?

"La ville est quelquefois ennuyeuse, mais à part cela, c'est complètement génial"

Because 'ville' is feminine, do I have to make 'génial' agree as well?

My teacher said that because I have said 'c'est', génial stays in its masculine form.

    Which is correct?

  • Problem with laptop fan?

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW20EF, and a few days ago I accidentally tipped it sideways and there was this crackling sound coming from the vent and a bit of smoke. I immediately shut it down.

It wasn't really hot or anything. But I panicked because I've read somewhere that it could catch fire?

I took the battery out and there is nothing wrong with it. I also cleaned it, and blew into the vent.

I rebooted it and there was some dust that came out..

and now it's not making the crackling noise.. but I'm still scared that it'll catch on fire.

    Any ideas what's happening?

  • French Grammar Question?

So this is prep for my GCSE French controlled assessment.

    (I'm talking about my town)

"on dit que c'est la meilleure ville de Hertfordshire"

My question is about the 'de Hertfordshire' part.. would it be d'Hertfordshire, or stay like de Hertfordshire?

I was just confused about it because it would make more sense to put 'de Hertfordshire', because it's a place, but the 'h' is the same as a vowel in French so what about d'?

    Or would both be correct?

    Thanks!

  • Have I left my revision too late?

I've got my first GCSE exams in the summer (year 10), and they are from the 7th June - 17th June.

It is currently my Easter holidays and I have looked at a few topics from each subject.. I'm just wondering if I've left it too late.

I have half a term, then half term to revise.

I am planning on spending my half term week revising.

    But is that enough?

(My exams are: English lang, English lit, physics, biology, chemistry (all sciences are unit 1), geography (unit 1) and ethics).

  • GCSE Revision Help????

I am so scared. I'm in year 10 but I'm doing all my unit 1 exams in June. I'm trying to revise as much as possible but I don't feel like I'm taking anything in. I got a C in my physics unit 1 in January, so I'm retaking that (hardest exam ever, it was like 60% for an A*)

In all the subjects I've done coursework in I've got A*

I just get really nervous, and I'm worried I'll forget everything in the exams

(physics, bio, chem, RE, English lit, English lang and geography)

Does anyone have any revision tips?

    thanks :)

  • GCSE Physics PHY1H Results?

Hey, did anyone else get their results back?

I did, I got a C.. which I was quite happy with considering I found that paper so so so so so hard and physics is my worst subject. I got a UMS mark of 68, so I don't think I was far off a B.

    So I'm gonna re-sit in summer :)

But so many people in my year came out with A*s and As!

I was surfing online, and it appears that the grade boundaries have been put up on the AQA website?

    it says:

    27/45 - A* (60%)

    23/45 - A

    18/45 - B

    13/45 - C (30%)

So basically you had to get just over half of the answers correct to get A*, and in any other subject that would be a B or possibly a C?!

and 30% to get a 'decent' pass?

this is where i found the grade boundaries:

  • chemistry help please?

the polymer in some sticking plasters is switched off by light because light makes bonds between the polymer chains. suggest why this may make the polymer less sticky.

i don't understand how bonds forming would make the polymer less sticky, surely it would make more sense if the bonds were broken?

please help, i can't find this anywhere on the internet. :(

  • chemistry people, i need your help please?

in my chemistry textbook it says:

The table shows the boiling point of five hydrocarbons. Use the information to answer the following questions:

    Hydrocarbon / Boiling point (C)

    A - 180

    B - 90

    C - 120

    D - 45

    E - 135

    1. which hydrocarbon flows most easily?

    2. which hydrocarbon is the least flammable?

    3. which hydrocarbon is the least volatile?

i don't see how from 5 figures i can get the answers to these questions.

i've been sitting here for 1 hour trying to work it out.

    help please?

  • Question on tooth decay?

earlier on in the year, i noticed that one of my teeth had a hole on the base going up towards my gums. it's got worse since then and the hole is bigger. i have braces and i frequently go to the dentists to have checkups anyway. they never mentioned it until a few weeks ago, saying how badly 'decayed' it was and that it needs to be removed. it has now started wobbling, so i think it might come out by itself. i'm 14, and luckily the dentist did tell me that it's the last of my milk teeth.

but the thing is, this tooth doesn't hurt at all, in the slightest.

i'm just wondering if anyone knows what the problem is?

    thanks. :)
