How much should a freelancer allot to pay taxes?
I am brand new to freelancing, and have just signed a contract with a company where I will be receiving a fairly regular paycheck, but my client will have nothing to do with keeping track of my taxes. Since I've never accounted for my own taxes before, I'm thinking I should save back a certain portion of every paycheck to go toward my tax dues.
How much would be appropriate to save back, to assure my tax requirements are covered? 1/3 of each check? 1/4? This is a supplementary source of income, so I'm not dependent on the money I'm making to survive... but I'd like to keep some of it! :)
7 AnswersUnited States8 years agoCopyright and Old Advertisements?
I've recently inherited my great-grandmother's collection of old magazines. Many titles, like Movie Weekly and Punch, have folded. Others like Vogue, Time, and National Geographic are still being published. Several volumes are from the early 1900s through 1930s, and I think the old images and advertisements are really interesting as history and art, and would like to put them on a blog or some kind of website to share them. But I'm concerned about copyright issues.
I understand that copyright has expired for any photos published prior to 1923, but does that also apply to ads, such as an old Lysol spread in Punch magazine from 1920? Would I be infringing on any copyrights by posting these images for free public sharing?
1 AnswerSearch Engine Optimization8 years agoWill a charge-off for fraud negatively affect my credit?
Recently, my credit card number was stolen/used for a fraudster's shopping spree. My bank was very good about notifying me of the strange activity, closing out the compromised account, and issuing me a new card/number etc. They assured me I wouldn't have to pay for anything, which is awesome. However, I noticed my old account now has an entry for "Charge Off."
I'm wondering if a charge-off proactively created by the bank to protect me (from a debt I didn't create) is still going to affect my credit score down the line, like a regular charge-off would?
3 AnswersCredit9 years agoHas Mythbusters done an episode on the "chintenna?"?
I know from experience that when you're looking for your car in a parking lot, and aren't close enough to trigger the keyless entry "panic" button, aiming the fob toward the top of your skull from under your chin will boost its signal. I can't really remember the science behind it, but I know who does -unless I'm dreaming, lol - I *swear* I first saw this on an episode of Mythbusters. But I can't remember for the life of me which ep it was. Googling isn't getting me what I need. Anybody recall the episode? I really, really want to see it again.
2 AnswersOther - Television1 decade agoWhat prompted "FMA: Brotherhood?"?
I understand the new Fullmetal Alchemist anime is supposed to more closely follow the manga's plot, but I don't understand WHY they would feel the need to continue the story - IIRC, when the first FMA anime was created, Hiromu Arakawa (the FMA creator/mangaka) specifically told the anime producers to create a different ending because she didn't think want them to just animate the same thing on TV as in the manga.
So. Why are they doing that now? What changed?
6 AnswersComics & Animation1 decade agoNeed the Psych term for a behavior influence?
I'm trying to recall a term I heard in Freshmen psych class about behavioral influences; specifically, in class we were discussing influences and stimuli, and my professor described this one by saying: "You're normally a very cautious driver, but then you watch an action movie, and on your way home from the theater you drive really fast and swerve and take risks like Vin Diesel because you're so primed from seeing that behavior for the last two hours." There's a specific name for it, I just can't remember it.
