  • What does this symbol mean?

Hello there! Long time answerer, first time asker, so here goes.

I'm planning on getting a tattoo for my 22nd birthday and I've have my heart set on this symbol for quite some time:

    http://megatattoos.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/cub...

The description in regard to its meaning is as follows:

"The cube represents the earth in Pythagorean, Indian, and Platonic traditions. In Egypt, the Pharaoh is often depicted sitting on a cubic throne. In India, many statues of deities are shown standing on a cube – one under each foot. It is understood as a building block of all simple matter – and it is also understood that within it supernatural possibilities abound. Therefore [the] cube represents the earth from which the spiritual king comes forth."

Sounds perfectly fine. Now, when it comes to the meaning of tattoos, I find it wise to cross-examine my sources. The only problem is that 1.) I could only find two websites featuring this particular version of the cube and 2.) The description above has been copy-pasted onto both websites. So, I'm a little suspicious as to the authenticity of the symbol's meaning.

tl;dr: I found what I believe to be a decent image for a tattoo, but the sources are scant in regards to its meaning. I'd rather avoid having something offensive or stupid permanently etched into my skin, so if anyone knows its true meaning, I'd love to know if this is a go or no-go.
