if you were in a relationship with someone you loved and you split up could you eventually forgive them ... if the split was not caused by cheating

i split up with my boyfriend a couple of weeks ago after i got upset when he ignored me for a two days to go drinking with his friends even though we had made plans he has done this on a number of occasions and he is aware that it bothers me! i feel like i over reacted to the situation but now he has moved overseas for work. before he went away he wrote me a beautiful letter apologising for how he behaved and how he hoped we would be together in the future. i contacted him to thank him and he seems happy in america now! should i leave him alone now to experience his new life abroad or fight for our relationship i feel like i dont know what to do aymore! thanks for reading and i would love any insights!
