  • What did Filipinos look like before the Spaniards colonized the Philippines? ?

When did the Spaniards start mating other Filipino natives? DId they just discover the Philippines one day in the 16th century and decided to multiply then? What happened in those 300 years of Spanish colonization?

If a Spanish man were to mate a Filipino native (or vice versa) during the time of the Spanish colonization, would they maintain a relationship as a family even though the Spanish were superior to the natives? I'm really curious... tell me what you know! Details would be nice!

    Thanks in advance!

  • What makes a good plot "good"? (books and stories)?

When it comes to stories, I know that a good plot should be intriguing; interesting and suspenseful from beginning to end and it must grab the reader's attention. It also must have some "creative complexity" in regards to storytelling and/or characters.

BUT..what ELSE does a good plot consists of?

  • Why white hair in the 18th century?

I've noticed that in 18th century, people always had white or really light colored hair in paintings and portraits. Hardly anyone had dark hair. And whenever women didn't wear wigs, they have either blonde or dirty light blonde or ash gray hair (nothing too close to being a brunette) in paintings. Did they use powder to keep it a lighter shade? Was it considered "more attractive" to have white or gray hair back then?

    Here are some examples:

    ... besides (the typical):

-dying and burning into ashes in the sunlight

-not having a reflection in the mirror

    -finding "garlic" repulsive

    -fearing the cross

    -thirsting for blood

    -being nocturnally active

    -sleeping in coffins

  • Your favorite quote (or part) from "Twilight"?

WARNING: From those who have not yet read the book but wish to in the future, do not read! (May contain spoilers.)

I work at Borders and checked out the book, "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer. Employees have the benefit of borrowing new books to read for two weeks. I've always been oblivious to bestsellers--and books in general, but I didn't understand why so many people loved Twilight so much. So, I was curious and decided to read it myself. To my own surprise, I was actually captivated and intrigued by the book... especially its characters. Today, I just finished "Twilight." I actually bought the hardcover and ordered the second sequel, "New Moon" online.

I actually really, really liked Twilight to my own enjoyment.

So, to all the Twilight readers, what is your most memorable part of the story?

    Mine is....

[I could feel his cool breath on my neck, feel his nose sliding along my jaw, inhaling.

    "I thought you were desensitized."

"Just because I'm resisting the wine doesn't mean I can't appreciate the bouquet," he whispered. "You have a very floral smell, like lavender...or freesia," he noted.

    "It's mouthwatering."]

  • Which celebrity do you think would make a great Bella Swan and Edward Cullen?

I always think about this when it comes to movies based on a book. My question is, which celebrity do you think would make a great Bella Swan and Edward Cullen? (based on appearance and how you would have imagined them.) Or do you think Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson are perfect for the characters?

  • I want to start reading the Twilight series? Convince me?

I'm not a book reader, but my ideal book to read would be entertaining, engaging, intriguing, captivating, AND... it has to make my heart beat fast during a suspenseful moment. I have heard so many (good) things about the Twillight series and it might be something I'd enjoy reading.

    Please tell me:

    1. Why do you think so many readers are so fanatically hooked on to "Twilight"?

    2. What do you think of Stephanie Meyer's writing and literary abilities?

    3. If you were a book critic and were given an opportunity to write a special quote/critique about the series overall, what would your quote be?

  • Where can I find a Christmas tree for a good price?

My boyfriend and I have moved to our fourth apartment and we've always wanted to get a Christmas tree, but procrastinated for so long. Lol. This season, we're planning on getting one--but we're not going to spend much on it since we have other important things to pay for.

Where can we find a good Christmas tree for under $100? (Preferably 7 feet tall. )

    Thanks!

  • What does not pair well with alcoholic beverages?

I went to Famous Dave's and had their salmon barbeque. I drank red wine afterwards, slept... and puked horribly in the morning. It was so bad! It was basically barbeque sauce, fish, and red wine infused together. The taste lingered for so long. It was disgusting.

    What about you?

  • Can alcohol affect anything else on your body besides...?

... killing brain cells, producing a higher risk of liver cancer, dehydrating your body and skin, and a hangover? What else does it affect? Does it affect your bones, your hair, your heart, respiratory system, teeth, stomach lining... etc.?

(I know that red wine is healthy for you: the grape skin used in red wine has antioxidants to reduce the risk of lung cancer, Alzheimer's Disease, prevent blood clots, and it helps maintain healthy arteries.)

  • Why is my monitor creating streaks? Please help?

I am noticing some pixel streaks on my monitor. I'm not quite sure how to explain it, but at the very right edge of every text, pop up box, or image, there's a smeared horizontal streak following it. I took a screen shot of the streaks, please take a look:

    http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr357/inktice/m...

I use my computer everyday for writing, digital photography, and post processing. I have an eye for detail, and I have never seen these streaks until today. This is driving my nuts because this is a pretty new [expensive] monitor! What causes monitor streaks? What could be wrong? Is there a way to fix this? And is it something that should disappear eventually? Any helpful info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
