Home-made Kombucha (yeast) for drinking dangerous to have around home Peritoneal Dialysis Treatment?
I'm a peritoneal dialysis patient who was forced to move out of rented house due to foreclosure. The only option I had at the moment was to move in with my ex boyfriend and his roommate, who grows yeast for drinking raw due to some health benefit he heard about. There is A LOT of it. 4 big jars of the stuff right outside the bedroom where I do my dialysis treatments. I looked on WIikipedia and found this: Home-made Kombucha contains a symbiosis of Acetobacter (acetic acid bacteria) and one or more yeasts a.k.a SCOBY (for "Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast"
I need to know, since I have a higher risk of getting an infection due to my type of dialysis treatment, is it unsafe for me to be doing my treatment near this stuff? My nephrologist said yeast can become a pathogen, but I can't find anything online regarding safety issues with this stuff..I don't drink it but I'm concerned if it can become an airborne pathogen. This place smells funny so i assume it's all this yeast he's growing.
Anyone know if there's any concerns I should be aware of given my condition?
