Hey, I play the cello, and am a big fan of Apocalyptica. So today I decided it would be cool to record my own version of "For whom the Bell Tolls". It seems like a fairly simple idea, I have a mic, a cello (of course), some earphones, and all I needed was a recording program. So I downloaded audacity. Once installed, I set up my own recording studio. I put my earphones on (so I could listen to Apocalyptica playing while playing my own tracks, to stay on tempo) and got my mic set up a couple inches from my cello.

My plan was to listen to apocalyptica while recording, and record all four tracks by myself. Once they had all been recorded, I would delete Apocalyptica's track, so it would be just me. I have been playing this piece for a while, so I know it like the back of my hand.

Ok, now to the problem. I decided to record the first cello part first, including the high repetitive part and the vocal part (played on cello). But each time I recorded a part, by about 45 seconds into the piece, I noticed I would be waaaay off. At first I thought this was human error, and I kept trying. But every time, even when I played the simple base part, I would get off more and more. So I ran some tests. I tried just playing one note, a low E, every quarter note. I may be a bit weak on rhythm, but I think even a toddler could manage that. Same thing, I was way off beat (to the point of perfect syncapation) by about 45 seconds. I decided to run a fool proof test. I deleted all tracks, then brought my metronome to the computer. I put it on 100 bpm, and record it for 3 minutes. Then I played the recording back, and turned my metronome on so that it was EXACTLY with the recording. But within a minute, they were playing a completely different times.

Once I was sure it was audacity's fault, I decided to try to figure it out. The help section said nothing about said problem, but I thought it might be a lag issue. So I turned it down to minimum quality, to the point where it sounded like trash, and it was hard to make out the notes (like really crappy drive distortion). I ran the same metronome test, but to no avail. Then I turned the quality all the way up, thinking maybe low quality = bad interpretation of rhythm. Same thing, it got way off.

Before you answer, please realize there is NO way it is lag. Some of my specs:

500 gig 7200 rpm harddrive, which is not even half full

Q6600 quad core processor, @ 2.4 Ghz per core

3 gigs DDR2 RAM

Onboard sound card

So, any thoughts on why my recordings are lagging? Thanks in advance!

Being an apocalyptica/Metallica fan, I have gotten a small band of 2 guitars and a drummer together (I'm a cellist). We played a small gig at a restaurant, and it went pretty badly, mainly because my amp was so bad. I am using a 15$ average pickup for my cello, and your average guitar amp. But the amp just couldn't handle it. The rich tone of the cello overpowered the amp, and made it extremely bad quality. Also, it's range was made for guitar, not cello, so it would be really quiet then suddenly get really loud. What amps do you recommend for cello? I need some distorition, but I have a pedal for that. It doesn't need to be too loud, just something that takes all the ranges of the cello really well, and reproduces its sound without absolutely destroying the quality. thoughts?

Over the past month or so, I have felt a slight pain in my wrist occasionally. I thought nothing of it, and went on with my life. However, in the past 2 days my wrist has been hurting whenever I bend it. Feeling worried, I tried to locate the pain with my finger. It seems to be in a tendon (I think, but I'm no doctor). I play on the computer a lot, and I also type very fast very often, so a lot of repetitive motion goes on. I did a short bit of research on carpal tunnel, but I don't feel any numbness or tickling. I have a small phobia of physical disabilities, so I'm starting to get veeeery worried about the condition of my left wrist (it's only in that one) and what it is leading to. For now I am not going to play games, just do activites that requires my left hand on the computer. But what should I do? I can't see my doctor for another 3 weeks. What does this sound like? Can it be permanent? How can I continue using my left hand on the computer without further damaging it?

P.S. The way my hands are placed on the keyboard is very ideal. They are flat as can be, not wierd crookedeness.

Ok, so I just bought a high end computer about 10 months ago. One of it's nice features is that it has 2 disc drives. Everything was going fine with them. But I went on a week long hike, and when I came back neither of them was working. The disc insert part is working fine, and by visuals it looked like the disc reading lasers were all right. So I called tech support. First he had me disconnect one of the disc drives, to see if the other one started working (cause one bad disc drive can corrupt the other) but it still didn't work, then we tried plugging that one back in and unplugging the first one. Still to no avail. Then we went to device manager, and found that windows was in fact detecting the CD drive, however there was a driver issue. I'm not sure if this is how all CD drives are, but he confirmed that my CD drives require no drivers. The only kind they need are automatically in the operating system. He told me the only way to fix this is to reinstall the OS. Although it wouldn't delete my files, it takes a long time to do that, and I might have to reinstall my games (which means I'll lose all my save game data). Before I go ahead and do that, I thought I might ask the community at yahoo answers. Has anyone had a similar problem? How did you fix it? thanks!

hey I'm thinking of buying a 8800gtx and want to know about what I will need for cooling.

Before I ask, please do not answer with reccomendations for video cards to buy, this is not that question!!!

My computer has a high quality zalman fan on the cpu, a fan on the power supply, and 2 fans that are cooling the entire computer. Will I be able to run 1 8800gtx without buying any additional cooling? thanks!

hey, I'm thinking of buying an 8800GTX. I found a good deal, but it doesn't come with any heating. Right now I am running an 8500GT with a heat sink on it that I can manually screw off. DO I have to get a heat sink for the 8800 gtx, or can I use the heatsink I have on the 8800gtx?

Hey, I'm starting to read the Bourne Betrayal. However I have not read any of the other books, but I have seen all 3 movies. I'm on the first chapter, and I'm already confused as far as characters go (when he is at the memory doctor's office) I'm wondering if I'm SUPPOSED to be confused, or if I'm missing something from the books that the movie doesn't tell you? thanks for quick response!

Ok so I have a girlfriend, and after some reading I have learned that pretty soon she is probably going to ask me the strong question of "do you love me"?

Well I can tell you right now that, obviously, I have no idea what love is. However I do know what love ISN'T. Right now I don't actually "love" her. This does not mean I don't care for her. It's not like I just want her for the sex. I love hanging out with her, and enjoy nonsexual things with her. Basically I care for her like I would care for my best friend, but I also have the physical attraction for her. But I'm not so strongly tied to her that I would want to start a family with her. So when she asks me that question, what should I answer? If I say "yes", I will be lying, and if I say "no", it will sound like I just feel lust for her. And it will probably be a romantic and quiet moment, and I don't want to ruin it by giving her a short lecture on what I feel for her. Please, what do I say?!!!!

So for about 3 years I have had this problem and I am very sick of it now....I need answers.

I have this problem with masturbating where almost the second I get "really horny" I get off a little bit of sperm and then BAM all this pee comes out (yes, it is pee). After the pee comes out it's very wet and disgusting and any horniness I had before is now gone. I always take a long pee right before masturbating, but it still happens. I have trained myself to just get out that little bit of sperm and then hold the pee, but after 3 years of masturbating I still havn't "come". Please help! How do I fix this?

So basically I just bought a new computer. With 8 gigs of DDR2, a q6600 quad core processor, and two nvidia 8500GT's (GT, not GTS) I thought I would run crysis on ultra high. Well it has a fine fps when I do. However Whenever I play it after a randomn amount of time the entire computer will freeze up and my speakers and headphones will make this fast repetitive banging sound-sort of like a machine gun (and no, it is not a machine gun sound looping, it happens every time) I am running windows xp professional sp2. Just got it set up today.

On another note, I occassionaly get a similar problem no matter what I am doing. One time while I was installing flight simulator x, and another 3 times when I was just using my computer, without playing any games. However during this I did not get that machine gun noise. Whenever it happens the only thing I can do is turn off my computer, because it is so frozen that even the cursor does not work. Spent $1,500 on the computer, help is appreciated

Ok first off I just want to promise everyone that I am not doing anything illegal. Now, to the question. If I install an entire windows xp sp2 from the disk onto my computer, will a sp1 keycode work with it? Thanks!

I bought a new computer a couple of days ago, and it just arrived. Because I already own windows xp SP1a I didn't waste money on including an OS. To get the key unregistered, I need to wipe it off my hard drive (on my old computer) and put it on the new coputer. But is a total reformat necessary? Can I just uninstall windows, and leave the other files/folders? I already have everything backed up, and I am a little bit nervous.

Also, If a reformat is necessary, how do I do that? (and also, if it is not necessary, how do you go about doing it the other way?)

Lately I have ben in the market for a very high quality computer to rn flight simulator x/crysis. Most of the good coputers I see have the intel quad core Q6600, and I was like "wow, a quad core that is under $400!" Well recently I heard that you are better off buying a good dual core than a bad quad core like the q6600. If I didn't get the q6600, I would get the AMD 6000+. Which is better?

A while back a friend was helping me shop for parts fo a new computer that i would build myself. THe biggest favor he did for me was find the best version of the 8800, for $250 (wow considering lesser vesions sometimes go for $600) but an unexpected payment came up on my behalf, and i couldnt buy the computer. Now I cant remember which friend it was, and dont know what the best version of the 8800 is. Any help?

In the book I'm reading, SOG, about the American commandos in Vietnam, it says many of the SOG pilots were chinese. To my understanding of the war, North Vietnam wanted to be communist, and Russia, wanting to spread communism, shipped supplies to the North. China was communist as well, but they were helping out the American commandos. Why was this? Wouldn't they want to spread communism as well? thanks fro your time.

Ok So I was at my 89 year old mothers house, and I found a bible that was from 1601. Thinking it might be worth something, I took it home. After closer inspection, I have concluded that it is a Martin Luther bible from 1601.

Would anyone please tell me how much this book is worth (please only say if you know for sure, I don't want some book noob taking a randomn guess) or, please suggest who is a good rare book appraiser.
