  • Animal that looks like a mix of horse/cow?

Is there an actual animal that has appearance characteristics of both horses and cows? In a way it might look like a weird mix between a horse and a cow.

  • How to count simple paths in directed graph?

Given a directed graph (possibly with cycles) and two distinct vertices u, v in the graph, how do you calculate the total number of distinct simple paths from u to v?

(A simple path is one that doesn't have any cycles. Two paths are distinct if they are not the same sequence of edges. It is not practical to enumerate paths and count them one by one.)

Thank you in advance for any help!

  • How to count simple paths in directed graph?

Given a directed graph (possibly with cycles) and two distinct vertices u, v in the graph, please describe an efficient algorithm to calculate the total number of distinct simple paths from u to v?

(A simple path is one that doesn't have any cycles. Two paths are distinct if they are not the same sequence of edges. Note that the number of paths can grow exponentially as you add more vertices/edges, so an algorithm that is akin to enumerating all the paths is NOT efficient.)

Thank you in advance for any help!

  • Can someone identify this bug?

    Pictures here:

    http://www.geocities.com/letao12/bug/

Body is about 1 inch long and 1/8 inch wide, light brown with black bands, long legs and antennae, 30 legs total (one was accidentally chopped off so you can only see 29 in the picture). Should be common because this one creeped into my room yesterday. I live in an urban environment around lake Ontario.

  • Japanese grammar help?

What's the usage of "koto"? For example I know "I think of you" is "anata no koto wo omou", but is it OK to just say "anata wo omou"? What's the function of koto in the sentence, and when should it be used?

  • Fundamental structure of language?

Is there something universal about the structure of all languages? Given a text with symbols/words you've never seen before, how can you tell if the text was written in a real language or if it was just a fabrication of random symbols?

  • Probability with distances?

N people (including yourself) are placed randomly on an open field. What is the probability that from at least one person's perspective, you're the closest to him/her (as a function of N)?
