I drive a cab. A cabbie friend told me he was going to weave in his lane all the way to the airport to increase the distance of his trip. Seriously funny but nevertheless it brings up a fun math problem.

So let's say the wavelength is 60 ft. and the amplitude is 1 ft. What is the difference in distance expressed as a ratio?

If the set is 20, but you want all permutations from 3 to 20 what is the equation? So the set is a,b,c,d,...t. Goal is to calculate all permutations starting with 3(abc ,abd, abe....) and ending with all 20.

So I was helping my daughter (3rd grade) with a homework assignment. Here's the question:

Janet, Lamesha, Diane , and Arlene baked cookies. Lamesha baked half as many as Diane. Diane baked 8 more than Arlene. Janet baked double what Lamesha baked. Arlene baked 4 cookies. How many cookies did the 4 girls bake?

OK so I we solved to 34 pretty easy back tracking off of Arlene.

But I used to be a math whiz. just never use it anymore. So I started to explain to her how this could be represented with and algebric equation.

So this is what I got.

x+(x+8)+(x+8/2)+2(x+8/2)=0

OK so I think that is right anyways. so I start thinking OMG I have no idea how to solve this.

The real questions are

1. does that equation represent the word problem correctly?

2. how do I solve the 2(x+8/2)=0

my thinking was I had to multiply x+8/2 by 2

get 2x+16/2=0

then cancel the 2s

get x+16=0

so really the whole equation would look like this now

x+(x+8)+(x+8/2)+(x+16)=0

am I going about this the right way?

idk just need a refresher on working with fractions I suppose.

Any incite would be greatly appreciated as I prepare myself for tutoring her in the future.

I have a Clearwire (Motorola) modem that is connected to a Belkin N150 router. I'm hardwired to the router and only have it to allow my kids internet in their room via 802.11. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and have it set up as LAMP with only 1 site hosted that is a Joomla site. I have a dynamic ip so I'm using no-ip.com to facilitate hosting a site that only a few ppl will use. If I remove the router I can use a proxy from chromium or firefox to view the site I'm trying to host. Obviously localhost works as well. I have the modem set to port forward 80 to 80. Don't know if that's needed but I'm pretty clueless at this point. So I need someone to help me thru the proper settings to send requests thru my router to the comp that is wired to it. I had this working on XP with Xampp but can't get it to work with Ubuntu.

I have XP sp3 and have used wubi to install ubuntu on this box. I feel comfortable that I can run Ubuntu w/o problems on it's own partion. So My cd/dvd drive is out. I do not have a USB memory stick. I can boot into windows or Ubuntu (I guess, considering it's just a file in windows). How can I safely create a partition? Then migrate my current 10.04 installation to the new partition?

OK I'm in Houston and my kid found an insect that looks like I should be able to identify just off a glance but idk. After Googling pics for immature bees, and wasps I can't find anything to positively identify this creature. I'm far from an entomologist but I love enjoying nature with my children and trying to answer their questions.

The size of the insect from head to tail is 3/4 cent.

hair like protrusions are visible along length of the posterior running from the base of the head to the end tip of abdomen

there is a black stripe running down the middle of the yellow hairs on the "back".

We saw it kinda fly (b4 losing it) Not sure about 2 or 4 wings but looked like 2.

6 legs w/o doubt.

No antenna or eyes visible from short term inspection.

I've always used utorrent but is there a client that will load front of video files kinda like how flash will stream a video so that someone can use vlc to verify a file w/o dl'n the whole file?

I suppose it's all about curiosity killed the cat. I have a profound desire to know what I was sent. I know what I have is tainted but is there ne1 that can show me the ropes of finding out what this particular piece of malware will do or at least redirect me to a forum of ppl that can?

I'm running a LAMP stack on this same comp and am an MCP on 2000pro/server back in the day (that means I'm only half an idiot)

So I got an e-mail with an attachment and it passed MSE. Ran it thru Kasperskies online file scanner and np. Something is not right with this file. It just FEELS awkward? It's from the USPS with sender listed as "United States Postal" <federal@usps.com>. It's a zip file and when I use winRAR to open it it shows that in the folder is a file called "USP_Document.exe" So I extract it. It looks like a pseudo adobe acrobat icon. Under properties it shows it as an application. So no way in heck I'm opening it but is there a way to detect what language the file is written in and decompile it?

Need to set up LAMP on a duel boot box. Been using xampp for local dev on an xp and vista machine and it's hightime I switched over. Beginner level. Any advice?

I have an image that I want to trigger a pop up calendar from inside a form. I have to place the <input> tag outside the form to keep it from submitting the form. The question is, is there a way to specify a relative position without using px or ens or w/e.

i.e. can I say:

position: relative;

right of "div class of the textbox that the popup will populate";

IIS uses the default port 80 and I've set Xampp to run on port 81. Now if I'm on a different computer in the network what is the URL to the Apache Server? If the main URL that brings up the IIS server is http://rachel-pc/ what would be the connection string to port 81?

Been playing CoH and am gonna try WoW. If i buy the World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King box at Walmart or w/e. does that come good to go or do you first need the WoW game.

i'm trying to change the read only permission for the program files folder and i right click the folder select properties and deselect the read only attribute. OK seems cool and it goes through and changes all the child folders for me as well. so i click the ok button to close the properties page. then right click and go to properties again and read only is selected again. the change didn't take. yes I'm admin but also there's no security tab. what is up? what have i lost my mind on? many thank 4 restoring my sanity.

in program files i need to change from a read only and when i open folder properties and apply the change it immediately goes back to read only. any help?

City of Heroes still connects so I need some advice. This my other comp can connect fine(Vista). The other(XP) on the same line fails to do anything. On IE the window at least still shows up, but firefox shows in taskmanager that it's running but doesn't show. Virus? I'm trying to get to Kaspers site but can do anything. Off my vista box I downloaded Opera and am going to see if I can install. Any advice about related problems would be helpful.

I have these lines in a php script to query the DB.

The only reference I can find for using %d is date formatting.

What exactly is %d doing here? Nothing in this query has anything to do with date.
