What is the difference between OCI and POI?
Hi, I am a UK resident. I have just received my British passport but thats after I surrender my Indian passport. Now that I need a visa to go to India each time during the holidays, so I have decided to either go for Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) or Person of Indian origin (OCI). I wanted to know what the advantages and disadvantages of both of them are over being an Indian national or being a holder of Indian passport. I wanted to clarify this before I can go ahead as there isn't anywhere I can get the necessary information I need. Thanks a million!!!

I did my MPharm degree and now am a registered pharmacist. But I want to do a PhD before I join the NHS. So, here are my doubts:-
1) What are the different grades/bands to which a newly qualified pharmacist can rise up to and their salaries.
2) Will gaining a PhD put me at a better start, so instead of starting from the lowest scale will I be able to start somewhere from the middle?
3) What is the highest possible level a pharmacist can achieve in NHS and their salary?
4) What are the job prospectus in this current economic climate?
5) What sort of PhD programmes should I undertakes and the best universities in the UK that offer it?
6) What are the bonuses and benefits of working at other areas like industry, community, academia, eyc compared to the NHS.
7) Are pharmacist second only to the doctors in the health care system?
Any other info. plz provide. Many thanks!!

9 AnswersRail1 decade agoHow do Light dependent resistors work in automatic street lights?
I understand that as the light intensity increases the resistance decreases and vice versa in an LDR. But I don't know why, shouldn't it be the other way around because in the morning when there is high light intensity shouldn't it there be high resistance to prevent any current to light up the bulb. And at night when there is low light intensity the resistance decreases to allow more current to light up the bulb. Thanks!

I have an Edexcel Mechanics 1 (M1) January 2009 Past Paper with me but I don't have a mark scheme with me. Does anyone know where I can find one online. It certainly is not on the Edexcel website. Also if anyone has it can you e-mail it to me at: neville.varghese@googlemail.com

1 AnswerHomework Help1 decade agoChallenging questions!!?
I am having trouble with these two questions. can u plz hv a look at them and show me the worked solutions. the last one especially iam getting 2y = 10x - 25√3, i don't know where the 8√3 y comes from. The following two questions are in parametric forms:
1) A curve, C is given by: x=2t+3 and y=t(cubbed)-4t
where t is a parameter. the point A has a parameter t = -1 and the line p is the tangent to C at A. the line p also intersects the curve at B. if the equation for p is 2y + x =7. Find the value of p at B.
2) Similar one, a curve C is given parametrically by the equations: x=5cost and y=-2+4sint. P is a point on C where t = π/6. show that the normal to C at P has equation: 8√3 y = 10x - 25√3

1) What does respiratory carrier protein mean? Can you give me few examples of them. Also how does alcohol slows the the rate of respiration by affecting the respiratory carrier protein, can you give me a detailed explanation.
2) What is the theory behind calorimetry and how do we decide what filter to use - i know its something to do with the colour wheel and highest absorbance. What r the units of absorbance.
Many thanx for all ur help!! 10 points if u give me a good explanantion for my answers.
2 AnswersBiology1 decade agoEffect of alcohol on the rate of respiration - enzyme activity?? Plz help!?
I am currently doing an investigation on how alcohol affects the rate of respiration but I can't find much info. on the web. I understand that as you increase the alcohol conc. the rate of respiration in yeast decreases but how do i justify that using the respiration equation? These are the key points I need to talk about but I can't explain how the following happens:-
1) Alcohol affects the the tertiary structure of proteins (enzymes) - Hydrogen ions affecting the H-bonding; ionic bonding and hydrophobic interactions are also affected somehow.
2) Respiratory carrier proteins
3) Lipids dissolve, so loses membranes of mitochondria (affects respiration) and plasma membrane (affects the yeast structure)
4) Brewers and their expectation of yeast
Plz provide any sources and any info. which you may find useful.
Many thanks for all your help!!
1 AnswerBiology1 decade agoEnzyme activity!! Plz help!!?
I am currently doing a bio. investigation. But I hv a few probs. Can you plz tell me which one of the following will have the fastest rate of reaction and give a detailed explanation so as to why:
Question 1:
1% glucose and 5% yeast in 37 degrees
OR
3% glucose and 5% yeast in 37 degrees
OR
6% glucose and 5% yeast in 37 degrees
Question 2:
The addition of alcohol slows down the rate of reaction. The fastest reaction is when there as little alcohol as possible. But what is the reason, I mean what does the alcohol do to the yeast cell. I know it breaks down the phospholipid bilayer of the cell membrane. But I want to know more than that, I mean like what happens to the mitochondria and enzymes. Plz can you give me a detailed explanation.
Many thanks for all your help!!

2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoExperiment on amylase and starch!!?
Word and symbol formula of the hydrolysis of starch which is catalyzed by the enzyme amylase
And can you tell me a way/method of measuring the rate of reaction by the changing the substrate, enzyme, inhibitor (urea) and pH. Is there any other way than putting the mixture into a test tube and measuring the volume of gas given off. Something like titration but I don't know how to do it. Can you give me a detailed explanation if you know of it. And for the pH and inhibitor I have no idea how to measure the rate of reaction. I think it involves something to do with buffer solution but thats as far as i know.
If you know the michaelis-menten constant of amylase, the plz provide it.
All of your statements must be from a relavant source plz provide.
Plz help!! Many Thanks!
1 AnswerBiology1 decade agoExperiment on Yeast and alcohol!!?
I am doing an experiment in school on the effects of alcohol on respiration in yeast. Increasing the glucose volume means more glucose substrate, so more carbon dioxide and alcohol produced, right. Could you give a detailed explanation of why this is true?
So, the method I was thinking to do would be to would use varying volumes of glucose and seeing how that would affect the rate of reaction by measuring the carbon dioxide gas given off in a gas syringe. If my method needs improvement could you suggest any.
Also, what would be the independent and dependent variables that I would need to control?
If you know any sources related to this, plz provide!
Many Thanks!!
3 AnswersBiology1 decade agoCould please tell me why this is so??!!?
There are different races of tigers like the bengal tigers, south chinese tigers, malayan tigers, siberian tigers and so on based on marked phenotypic differences, such as body size and colour. But:-
1) Could you explain to me how the distinct phenotypic differences between the sub-species may have arisen.
2) Also, why these populations of tigers are classified as different sub-species rather than as different species.
Thanks very much !!
2 AnswersBiology1 decade agoPlz help me withthis question!! I'm so confused!?
In the binomial expansion of (2k+x)^n, where k is a constant and n is a positive integer, the coefficient of x^2 is equal to the coefficient of x^3.
a) Prove that n=6k+2.
b) Given also that k=2/3, expand (2k+x)^n in ascending powers of x up to and including the term in x^3, giving each coefficient as an exact fraction in its simplest form.
Please can you provide workings for each part of the answers. Many thanks!!
