: http://hucklebuck.myminicity.com/ : I'm 33 and live in Rhode Island. : I'm a die hard fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia Flyers (odd story.) : I've been a fan of all 4 of these teams for as long as I can remember - so don't refer to me as "bandwagon," doing so would be foolish. : That's all you need to know about me. :

  • Willie Randolph, would you please STFU?

    .

Why is it that every time an African American manager is on the hot seat, he cries racism?

In case he didn't notice, his team finished last season with the 2nd worst collapse in the history of the game (1964 Phillies.)

This year they're sitting in 2nd place behind the Florida Marlins.

Look at your own job performance before claiming it's race related. I saw plenty of African-American baseball reporters and commentators calling for his head after last season.

    Anyone else agree?

  • I leave for 2 months.....?

    .

...and I'm still #4 in Best Answers :)

Something seems to be missing though, I need to get my Top Contributor badge back now.

    My question:

How many HR"s will Rick Ankiel finish with this year?

My prediction from the end of last season was 35. I'm sticking with that.

    Opinions?

  • Chicago Black, ummm Hawks and Rafael Palmiero's 300th hit?

    .

Not like the public needed another reason to think Congress is wasting time with the steroids issue, but how awful did it make them look when Rep. Christopher Shays (Ct.) asked about the "1919 Chicago BlackHAWKS scandal." Then two minutes later asks about Rafael Palmiero's "300th hit."

If you know nothing about the sport (obviously) wouldn't you think he would've done at least a little bit of RESEARCH before the hearing?

  • Where do some people here get their information from?

    .

I keep seeing people say that Brian McNamee was facing jail time if he didn't give up Roger Clemens.

This is NOT true. The only way McNamee was going to be punished at all was if he LIED to investigators.

So my question is, why would someone LIE, if the only way they'd go to jail is if they LIED???

To me that makes his claims MUCH more credible.

  • What wouldn't happened if Shoeless Joe Jackson had never been traded from Cleveland to Chicago, or...?

    .

...he had been cleared of wrong doing in the 1919 Black Sox scandal?

He played his last MLB game in 1920, at the age of 30.

If he had stayed with Cleveland, or had been allowed to keep playing, he would've played at least another 8 years.

Given his average stats, he COULD'VE (barring injury/ dramatic skill erosion) ended with the following numbers:

    Games: 2142

    AVG: .356

    At Bats: 8043

    Runs: 1407

    Hits: 2856

    2B: 483

    3B: 273

    HR: 84

    RBI: 1268

    BB: 819

    SB: 315

    TB: 4158

This doesn't take into consideration that great players generally stay in their prime until around the age of 35 or so, or the fact he had his best power and RBI year his last season, along with 20 triples and 42 doubles. There's no reason to assume he would've had continued increasing those numbers with the dead ball era ending.

  • How desperate is Pete Rose?

    .

This guy will do anything to get the attention back on him and the Hall of Fame. He'll use any platform, and any situation that occurs in the game to make what he did seem not so terrible.

"I never thought anybody would make me look like an altar boy. I've been suspended 18 years for betting on my own team to win," he added. "I was wrong ... but these guys today, if the allegations are true, they're making a mockery of the game."

Is this guy serious? He's REALLY grasping at straws now.

Could 1 person be any more pathetic and desperate?

  • If using a heavier bat makes you hit the ball farther, then...?

    .

Why would a player cork his bat?

It's a popular misconception that using a heavier bat will increase a player's power. This is simply not true.

If this were the case, players wouldn't be corking bats, they would be ADDING weight.

What are your theories on this?

    Just one source:

  • Highest level of baseball you've played?

    .

I'm wondering, what's the highest level of competitive ball people here have played?

I notice a lot of people try to downgrade others' knowledge of the game.

A lot of people here know stats, players, teams - but...

Who actually KNOWS the game from experience.

This isn't a p****ing contest, and isn't intended to be, just curiosity.

I played D-1 ball at the University of Rhode Island (1994-1995) before I tore by biceps tendon and was forced to give up the game for 2 years.

  • Who holds the "record" for...?

    .

What modern day player (1901-present) holds the "record" for lowest batting average in a season he drove in 100+ runs?

Please, no editing of answers - take a guess if you don't know it right off the bat.

Also, keep in mind that not everyone has access to the same research tools (ie. baseball reference's PI) so try making an educated guess instead.

What modern era (1901-present) Hall of Fame pitcher had the LEAST number of wins his first 5 seasons?

This does not include pitchers who were primarily relievers.

(Rudy L, you get another guess - it's not Whitey Ford.)
