His aggressive and rugged style made him a favourite of both teammates and fans. Tie reached two NHL milestones in his last season; he recorded his 100th career goal vs. Montreal on Oct. 8, and played in his 1,000th career NHL game at Buffalo on March 3. Tie announced his retirement Sept. 19, 2006 after 1,020 career NHL games, with 245 points (104 goals, 141 assists). Tie joined TSN as an NHL analyst on Oct. 3, 2006. Tie is also an accomplished entrepreneur and philanthropist, supporting The Hospital for Sick Children (sickkids.ca), Variety Ontario's Variety Village initiative (varietyontario.com) and Spread The Net (spreadthenet.org), which fights malaria in Africa through the purchase of bednets.
