  • How do I convince Google that I no longer reside in Europe?

This year I spent a number of months in a foreign country, but even since I've come home, Google thinks I'm still in Europe. It's really annoying to have all my links come up in an obscure foreign language and to receive search listings based on an erroneous perception of my location. How do I fix this?? Potentially relevant info: I don't have a Google account and would prefer to fix this without creating one. Also, it only happens when I use my Google Chrome browser and not when I use Internet Explorer.

  • Can't play Youtube videos?

Youtube videos have abruptly stopped working on my Chrome browser (they work in IE). Oddly, they still work on Facebook, but only when I play the embedded version - if I try to load it in a new screen, all I get is a black screen with that little circle of dots that means it's loading. Any ideas on what might be causing this and how I might fix it?

  • How do we know that Gaius Marius made the eagle the Roman military standard?

I have read a multitude of web pages that state that Gaius Marius made the eagle the sole standard of the Roman military. Yet I cannot find an article which actually cites a primary document or scholarly secondary source which might explain why we attribute this to him. It doesn't appear to be contained in Plutarch's Life of Marius.

  • Is drinking orange juice from a bowl weird?

I was at a friend's apartment a few days ago having dinner. My friend asked if anyone wanted orange juice, and I said yes, but she had run out of clean glasses. I asked if she had a bowl, (she said yes) and I drank the orange juice out of that. My friends think that's weird. Is it really that weird? Really? I mean isn't the fact that butterflies taste with their feet or that a duck's quack doesn't echo or that the Chinese practiced foot binding for centuries or that every year bulls are released into the streets of Pamploma, Spain. I know a girl who never wears shoes. Surely, there are so many stranger things in life that drinking orange juice out of a bowl is almost not worthy of comment.

  • My ribbing looks like seed stitch. What's wrong?

I am knitting the ribbing of a hat on circular needles. I switched from using English knit and purl to continental knit and Norwegian purl. For some reason, though, my ribbing looks more like a strange version of seed stitch. I checked to make sure that I was doing the stitches correctly, and I did a small swatch to make sure I hadn't just gotten off on my counting. But my k1, p1 still looks nothing like ribbing.

  • Having trouble with beginning knitting...?

I just learned to knit using the English method, but I didn't like the inefficiency of the movements. So I taught myself the continental method for knitting. It worked great. I had trouble with continental method purling, however, and found that I liked the Norwegian method for purling. But when I tried to combine Norwegian purling and continental knit stitch to make ribbing on circular needles (k1, p1, k1, p1) I get several inches of thread between my needles, which doesn't go away when I start my second row. Are these two methods incompatible? Any ideas on what I might have done wrong?

  • How do I keep Vongo from trying to reinstall itself?

I removed Vongo (a pre-loaded program on my HP computer) using Add/Remove Programs. I unchecked ISUSPM on my startup programs. I searched my computer (including hidden files) for Vongo, and deleted everything with that name. But when I restarted the computer, Vongo sent me a message that it was trying to reinstall itself. So I downloaded Windows Installation Cleanup, but I cannot find anything called Vongo or Starz or anything like that to remove. Any suggestions?

  • How to clean a sticky, heat-damaged tent?

I am going camping in a few weeks, and decided to look in my parents' garage to see if we have any old tents. I found an old R.E.I. camping tent. Unfortunately, exposure to many years of Arizona summers (likely 120+ degrees in our garage) and a cracked bottle of seam glue have made the tent really sticky. I had to peel the rainfly open. I tried washing on of the carrying bags in water with mild soap, but that didn't seem to help. When it dried again, it was just as sticky. Any ideas for cleaning it, or should I give it up as irreparably damaged?

  • History Channel Question?

Some time ago I watched a program on the history channel. A segment of it was devoted to explaining how an ancient middle eastern palace bedroom was cooled. The bedroom had two man-made ponds on either side. The wind would flow over the pond and be cooled by the water. The air, now cool, would flow through the window slits and sink to cool the room.

I need to know what series and/or episode this is from. Any information is helpful. Thanks!
