  • How does a talk box work?

I want to get into working a talk box, but I don't have the money now. I've watched some tutorials but peoples set up slightly differ. Do I need an amp out to work this? My amp has a 3.5 mm out and its broken. (Fender Mustang V2) Also I need a good microphone for this don't I? Do I need an extra speaker along with my amp out?

  • How do I get this tone/sound on guitar?

I want this dreamy sound from the intros of these 2 songs:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEkKK9uu1fs

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTYdAmOPd1M

but I don't know how its done. Their mixes sound full, but when I try to record with clean tones they kinda just sit there. really quiet and taking up no space. Any tips for fuller clean sounds?

  • Why are my songs so quiet?

I am trying to learn about mastering heavy metal, but all the tips and tricks I find only raise the general volume incrementally. Compared to professional songs there is a HUGE difference. Again, I honestly don't believe a few tweaks can get my song to production volume. I also don't believe those songs are under 0 db. I have to raise my rhythm guitars to around +8 db EACH in order to get the volumes to match those of the professional metal songs. I'm comparing to Vitalism, Symphony X, and Asking Alexandria btw. I'm just at a loss at such the dramatic volume difference

  • How do I master music properly?

I'm writing heavy metal music. When I try to record guitar, I have trouble with clipping. I use logic pro and guitar rig, and in the project itself nothing clips. But as soon as I export it, there is a ton of clipping. I tried EQ-ing the guitar, but using what people did on youtube, I just got this muddy sound that is stuck in the background. Barely hearable, and it still clipped after export. I tried using compression and limiters, and I ran into the same problem. When I listen to other metal artists like Symphony X, or Asking Alexandria, they have this bright, not muddy, and LOUD track. I have no idea how to get that much volume while not clipping.

  • Name of personality disorder?

I can't tell if this is bipolar disorder, or dissociative identity disorder. But a person who, when triggered by something, completely shifts personalities. But is still the in same consciousness. Almost, "sociative" identity disorder. Like after the shift, they're not like "Oh I'm not jim, I'm bob". Thy know they're still jim, just completely different. I couldn't tell if this was bipolar disorder, because isn't bipolar linked specifically to depression? Or almost emotions? The disorder I am talking about is personality traits themselves.

  • Anybody know how to do a blown out speaker EFFECT on a guitar or something?

I like that effect and want to implement it. Youtube and Google just bring up literally blown out speakers. I mean the effect in a DAW. I'm using Logic Pro btw.

  • Logic Pro X Drum Glitch?

So I'm using the drum kit designer with the studio kit in logic pro x, and I wrote a quick heavy metal drum beat. But when I play the region, the middle section is glitchy and not all notes sound. Like random cymbals won't actually play, or it will skip snare hits. Sometimes, none of the bass drum plays. Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Can you recommend good amp simulators for power metal?

I am using logic pro, and I want to record power metal stuff like symphony x and dragonforce and whatnot. But the on board amp sims have just too much distortion, it has a grungy-muddy sound. I like brighter tones that really cut through the mix. You can hear every note and squeal, but there is still a growl to them. Would bias desktop from power grid suffice? So far all I see in videos is that same grungy tone with too much distortion. Again, I'm looking for a symphony x/dragonforce tone.

  • Best way to mix guitars?

I have a $hit recorder...I use a h1 handy. I will get a Scarlett audio interface soon and I use cubase as a daw. Anyway, what is the best way to get a good rhythm guitar sound? When I record rhythm it kills the mix by either just blurring things out so you can't hear them, or it just overpowers it. I use a fender mustang 2 for recording, which might be the problem. I try to lower the gain (no mod or reverb of anykind), but its either not there or too much with that amp, mo balance. I tried double tracking and panning to either ear, but that still doesn't sound prominent. I want like a professional sound. Also, I've heard songs with both harmonized lead and rhythm in both ears...how the hell? Any recording and mixing tips?

  • How much would it cost to replace Fender Strat neck?

I have a cheap $150 Fender strat, and I want to know how much it would cost to switch out the neck to a 24 fret neck. I also want to lower the action on it, make it more suitable for shredding. I have a Schecter and its PERFECT, and I want the Fender to feel similar. When I use the Fender it feels slow and my fingers catch a lot on the strings. Also the 24 fret thing is a pain.

  • Do you know how to detect key presses in python 3 on linux?

I'm making a game in python, and I thought it'd be cool to have button mash events, and quick time events. Such as "Tree falls on you, mash space-bar to push it off." And it would measure like presses per minute, then once it gets over a thresh hold it moves on. Or like a situation where "Pass the ball to either Jake ("E"), Jim("G"), or John("K)" and you have 2 seconds. But I'm not sure how to do that. Again, python 3, on linux

  • What is the term for when a character discovers a fake?

Let me explain, I'm writing a small text based game, and the main character is undercover. He meets a business man who continues to converse with him. If you say the wrong thing in a particular part, I want to make it subtly known that he is on to you.

What is the term for when a charters behavior and manner change because he has figured out something about another character?

Not suspicious, because that implies he still isn't sure. This guy is sure, but he continues to play along.

Example of possible dialogue: "Ah I see, you work for the mining company down the road. (mining company closed down 10 years ago) Well I think it best that you meet my friend John in the parlor downstairs, he is dying to meet you. (the parlor has guards waiting)"

  • What is the rhythm for this song?

I'm a huge fan of Jason Richardsons album "i", but as I just got into djent, I am really off-put by many of his riffs. Specifically, for two of his songs.

Mirrors (feat. Nick Johnston) from 1:39-2:04. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Utj1VuJE7V0 He repeats this at the end as well.

    and Omni from 2:59-3:13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69zFCSToXzE

Can you help me figure out the underlying beat over the measures is? I want to like the entirety of the songs, but these sections always confuse me.

  • How can I keep my guitar recordings from peaking in recordings?

I don't have a lot of money, so I am recording with a ZOOM H1 handy recorder. Super cheap. I also have a Fender Mustang 2, and I just plug a 3.5 mm cord into it, then into the recorder, then I plug headphones into the recorder. Anyways I record music. With just headphones, it sounds fine, but when I add the recorder, the recordings are muffled a little more. This wasn't too much of a problem until I tried clean tones and my wah pedal. Recordings with those peaked like crazy. I tried recording at lower volumes, but the recording still peaked. Any idea how to fix this? I'm pretty sure auto gain is turned off.

  • What's a good distortion pedal for shredding?

I just asked the question if they are worth buying. I'm convinced. But can you recommend one that gives a great tone for shredding? I like wirey tones for metal core, prog metal, and power metal. Sharp, smooth, but clean. Any recommendations?

  • Is buying a distortion pedal worth it?

I have a schecter omen and a Fender Mustang 2. I also record music, and the biggest problem with that is the tone. I am caught between to fuzzy and dull as if I'm playing underwater, where I can't do pinch harmonics and I have to really pick everything for anything to sound, and then high gain with tons of static. Where EVERY little move registers as noise. A friend told me to buy a distortion or overdrive pedal (don't know the difference) Becasue they are a lot cleaner. But I'm looking for REALLy good metal tones. NO fuzz, yet clear. To get studio sounds. Are they worth the money? And what's a decent cheap pedal I can buy?

  • What happened to the other 27 missiles that were launched?

I have mixed feelings about the launch. But either way, I heard that only 23 missiles hit their mark. Where did the other missiles hit? Are our guidance systems that ineffective? What if they landed in a place with civilians I'm concerned that in this, and in future events our accuracy with weapons is that flawed. Politics, and whether you agree with what we TRY to hit is irrelevant, if the missiles only hit half of their target. That's bad to both sides.

  • How much does it cost to refinish a bass guitar?

I've been playing electric guitar for 4-5 years, and I'm getting very comfortable. I recently wanted to pick up bass guitar. I want to start off small and cheap with a beginners guitar. Most comfortably under $200. I'm thinking of getting a 5 string, because a lot of the songs I want to play need a 5th string. But all the 5 string basses for that price are gloss. How much would it cost to get it a matte finish at Guitar Center or whatever? I do NOT want to do it myself, I'd end up with something that looks like a whittled bike seat.
