Is a dealership the best place to get my car repaired?
I have a 2014 Ford vehicle that I havent even had for a year yet. Someone rear ended me and now I have to take it in to repair the damage. The other persons insurance is covering the cost. Since the car is not even a year old, I want to make sure that I get OEM parts installed.
Is taking it to the Ford Dealership my best bet or will I be fine taking it to a respected independent? I just want to make sure I get it back the same way it was before.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs7 years agoThink my stepson stole money from me....how to handle?
I've started a small side business and have been keeping a small portion of the cash I've made on me. The only time I spend this cash is when I'm using it for my side business. I never use it for anything else.
The last time I spent this cash was on Saturday. Today, I noticed my wallet felt much lighter and turns out there is about 50-70 dollars missing. I asked my wife if she took out any money and she said no. My stepson is incredibly lazy and always asks for money. He doesnt want to work for money, he just wants to be given money. He is 16 and just wants to skate. He can skate all day in 90 degree heat, but ask him to cut the yard in the morning and suddenly the 75 degree heat is unbearable.
hes been asking for money everyday. He wants to buy cool shirts and needs a new skateboard after breaking his. His generous friends gave him an old skateboard. Yesterday he asked if there was anything he could do to make money. I told him all the chores are done (by us) and everytime I give him an opportunity to make money, he does a half *** job and expects to get paid.
So this morning I'm missing this money from my wallet. My wife didnt spend it, I know I didnt spend it, which leaves him. I have no proof he did it, but all signs point to him. If i caught him red handed stealing, that would be one thing. I just dont know what approach to take without concrnotete proof it was him. I'm trying to think did i forget spending extra money but i'm 99.9% sure i didnt.
5 AnswersFamily7 years agoHow to handle insurance lowball offer for pain and suffering?
I have a new vehicle which was rear ended when I was at a red light. The entire back door of the SUV needs to be replaced along with the bumper. First, their estimate seemed extremely low. $2000 does not seem like enough to replace the entire rear door of an SUV. Next, for pain and suffering they want to offer $180 along with a couple hundred bucks for doctor visits.... That was an insulting offer.
I haven't been to the doctor yet and I have neck soreness. I really don't want to hire an attorney. I already told them I wouldn't accept their offer. Am I out of luck on this if I don't get an attorney?
6 AnswersInsurance & Registration7 years agoCar not financed by company we signed for...?
We bought a vehicle at the end of april. We signed the paperwork for the bank and was told our first payment would be June 15th. I havent received a payment booklet yet so I called the bank and they have no record of a loan with us.
I know that sometimes loans fall through and the dealership will get another bank to loan. This happened on a car I bought 6 years ago and the dealership was hounding me to come back in to sign ASAP.
Difference this time is that the dealership has not contacted me at all. I even picked up my plates a week ago. So basically I either have a free car or they changed banks and forged my signatures. I find that hard to believe since its a large and reputable dealer.
If they bank finanncing changed, wouldnt they need new signatures and contact us? I have a car and have no idea who I'm supposed to pay. The dealership is closed today but i'm curious as to whats going on.
2 AnswersBuying & Selling7 years ago30 day notice gym membership?
My wife started taking classes at a new gym a few months back. She started paying on a per class basis but they later opened it up to enroll for classes monthly. She canceled her membership and they told her they required a 30 day notice. Now she states she was never told this and never signed anything. All she did was give them her cc info and they started billing her.
Its a local gym and i've contacted the person who handles this twice about the 30 day notice. We told her that my wife was never told, nor did she sign any paperwork stating this. I even told them that if my wife did sign something, I would like for them to email me a copy of this for our records.
So far, no response after two tries and the billing date is tomorrow. Can they charge me another month if we never signed anything?
1 AnswerDiet & Fitness7 years agoWife wants to have lunch with a "friend"?
So this weekend is one of the very rare weekends i have to work. After telling my wife this, she says she ran into an old friend and is going to have lunch with him this weekend at his favorite place. I'm really trying not to be jealous, but this bothers me.
First, it just seems convenient that the one time i actually work a weekend in months is the same time this happens. Could be coincidence, maybe not. Second, and this is whats really bothering me, is that she would be livid if i did this under the same circumstances. She denies it, but we both know thats how she would handle it.
Just wanted to get some thoughts on this. I tell my wife that I ask of her to treat me the same way she would want to be treated. I would never have lunch with another woman. I understand a coworker going to McDonalds or something like that during lunch hour. However, meeting someone away from work and going to his favorite place is totally different.
7 AnswersFriends8 years agoShould I get a second opinion from an optometrist?
About a month ago, my eyes became very irritated by my contacts. They became bloodshot and felt very sore for a couple days after. I went in for an eye exam and the optometrist said she could not give me an exam and gave me medicated drops to help with some scars that formed in my upper eyeball that were still active.
10 days later I went back and she told me the right eye scars had healed but the left hadnt fully healed. She gave me the exam and told me not to wear contacts for another 7 days. She found that my left eye had a severe astigmatism and i needed the use of a toric lens. The right eye was okay. My prescription had changed from -6.25 and -6.5 to -5.0 in each eye.
I wore the contacts for a week and it was horrible. My vision was not clear and there was a huge difference in vision between both eyes which was extremely uncomfortable and disorienting. I went back today for her to check the prescription and I cant believe what she found.....
The severe astigmatism in my left eye was gone. Now, my right eye has an astigmatism...and, my prescription is back closer to what it was originally...What the hell is going on? How can an astigmatism go away in the course of 2 weeks and appear in the other eye? I'm thinking of getting a second opinion from a different optometrist because this doesnt sound right at all. I'm using my old prescription glasses and my vision is perfect with them. Also, now the left eye scars had healed but the right scars have come back...this makes no sense...Just wanted to get some opinions
1 AnswerOptical9 years agoIs my eye prescription correct?
Turns out both eyes now have an astigmatism. My left eye is a little worse. My prescription used to be -6.50 and -6.75, now they are both -5.50. Problem is, after this eye exam, my left eye requires the use of a toric contact lens now. I do not see the same out of each eye with contacts. The left eye, with contacts on, is blurrier than the right and its very disorienting. My eye doctor said thats the way it will be. I thought the whole point was for your eyes to be equal. It just doesnt sound right, and more importantly, it doesnt feel right. Even with more of an astigmatism in my left and having to use a toric lens, shouldnt both eyes be fairly equal with contacts? Looking for some help.
2 AnswersOptical9 years agoQuestion about electrical outlet in false wall?
I converted my garage into a media room and have 2 columns in the back corners. One hides the water heater and the other was hollow and i used it as a media rack. I ended up closing it off by screwing a piece of mdf over the opening since i didnt want to permanently cover it with sheetrock.
Anyways, I have an electrical outlet in there that I want to use, but I want to leave the column closed. I've read that you should never use a power cable in a wall, would that apply here too since its not a real wall? If it is dangerous, out of curiosity, why?
2 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)9 years agoPossible to change store credit card to another?
I went to a local retailer to buy a tv. I was approved through GE credit. The store manager was being a little deceptive and I decided not to buy from them. So, i am approved through GE credit but will not be using the credit. I was wondering if its possible to have them switch that credit to an Amazon visa card which is also through GE so I can buy the tv through them. Anyone know if this is possible without running my credit again?
2 AnswersCredit1 decade agoHow bad will canceling this card affect my credit score?
My wife has a first premier mastercard. She got it 6 years ago when her credit was not good. This is a predatory card and I want to get rid of it. Not only do they charge a monthly fee, but they also charge a $75 annual fee. To top that off, the credit limit is only $250.
Now that our credit is excellent, we dont need cards like this. I want to cancel it but shes afraid of the hit her credit score might take. I say it wont do much damage since the limit is only $250. Can someone, who has canceled a credit card before, let me know what kind of hit I should expect? Its only about 6 years old.
6 AnswersCredit1 decade agoAm I straining my eyes to much?
For the past year or two, I've had problems with my vision. It all started when my pupils were dilated during an eye exam. I had never had this done before. After that, I suffered from blurry vision with my contacts on. I kept going back and the doctor could not figure out the reason. I switched contacts and nothing helped. After a few months, my vision went back to normal. Recently, the problem started up again. Blurry vision when I look at text on the computer or tv. Also, I have noticed that I am extremely tired at night. It feels like I havent slept in days and my eyes are very heavy. I've been wearing contacts for about 20 years solid. I recently got some glasses and noticed that I dont get the same blurry vision and I dont feel as tired when I wear them. I just hate wearing them because my depth perception is so screwed up with glasses since I'm not used to wearing them. My glasses and contacts are the same strength. My only conclusion is that my eyes are so strained while wearing contacts that its blurring my vision and my eyes are making my body feel tired. Is this possible? Anyone else experience this?
2 AnswersOptical1 decade agoHow would you choose to live in this situation?
I work for a small business. The nature of working for a small business is that job security is not a luxury that you have. Our business goes hot and cold. During the cold months, you start to worry and then we get hot and it seems to alternate like that....There have been rumors that the owners may sell which would mean we would lose our job or take pay cuts. Like any business, if the money is going out more than its coming in, its not worth it.....So I'm here in limbo....I have a job, but for how long. It could keep going and going or it could be gone within the year......
So I'm faced with a dilemma.....Do I act like i'm losing my job and save every penny and put my entire familys lives on hold......Or do I carry on and still do our home upgrades, pay off bills, and save for our vacation like we always have?
Here is the kicker.....My wife makes enough to cover all the bills for the month. Absolute worst case scenario, unemployment or a lower paying job which i could easily get would supply us with more than enough to live off of...
I just dont want to put our lives on complete hold for something that may not even happen....We made the decision to stay in our small home versus getting a larger, more expensive, new home so we would be safe if the worst happened......
4 AnswersFamily1 decade agoQuestion about preordering phones from best buy....?
What, if any, are the disadvantages? Does best buy do like most 3rd party sellers and charge you a termination fee on top of what the carrier does if you cancel early? Also, can you preorder a phone if you are not signed up with the provider? I want to get the EVO 4g but I dont have Sprint yet. Can I preorder it and then sign up when the phone comes in?
2 AnswersCell Phones & Plans1 decade agoHow do you feel about toddlers and TV?
I've seen all these studies how TV is bad for toddlers and how it basically makes them grow up to be stupid. Its hard to put to much faith in these studies since they can be so easily manipulated. I'd like to know some parents opinions on this. My daughter is 2 years and 3 months old. She absolutely loves Sesame Street. I've been guilty of putting it own just to keep her occupied so I could get a break. She doesnt really watch cartoons or other shows but she can sit there and watch Elmo and Abby as long as I let her. The cool thing is that she is learning from Sesame Street. She says the alphabet when they do it and likes to say the names of the letters, numbers, and colors that she sees on the show.....She probably takes in about 3-4 hours of tv a day along with plenty of play time outside....We usually take her to the neighborhood park or take her walking every evening....So whats your opinion? Are these "studies" worthless like the ones that say playing violent video games turns you into a murderous psychopath or do they have real merit?
12 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoDid my contractor do my concrete patio right?
I had a small slab of concrete as a patio in my backyard. We wanted to extend it the length of the house and out about 5 feet. Last week, our contractor finished, but he just went right up to the exisiting concrete. I thought he would put a layer over it so it all looked like one piece. Instead, it is seamed. You can tell that it is 2 seperate pieces of concrete. My question is, will this be a problem once water gets in there? I'm afraid that it may crack or cause problems after a while due to rain.

I'm only 1 week in, but I gained 2 pounds.....I worked out everyday for an hour and stayed on a high protein, low calorie diet. I gained 2 freaking pounds....Talk about demoralizing.....I'm 50 pounds overweight and have maintained a steady 200 pounds even when eating like crap......My caloric intake is around 1700 and the average intake for my height and weight is 3000......I have been doing cardio with 2 days of slight weight training......I dont get it.....
3 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoIs P90x the best for what I want?
I ordered it and have been using it for 4 days. I do like the program, but my main goal right now is to drop my weight as quickly as possible. I've lost the amount of weight I need to lose before by doing a combo of eating right and alternating days of cardio/weights. I tried P90x because space is limited in my home and dont have a workout gym at home. Also, there is no way in hell I can keep up with the P90x diet plan, nor do I really want to. I know how to eat when trying to lose weight. P90x just seems to have a goal of getting ripped, while my first goal is to lose weight. I am 50 lbs over weight and need to concentrate on losing as much of that as I can. Another P90x problem I have is time. I can get about an hour of workout time which puts a hamper on some of the workout programs in P90x......I just really want to know if P90x is a good weight loss program. I know its a good muscle building one, and I know the benefits of building muscle, I just cant help but think I can get the same results for free by doing my own cardio/weight program and not have to pay $150 for dvds. Any thoughts would be appreciated.....
2 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoCardio/weights or simply cardio?
I need to lose 50lbs.....I know the benefits of building muscle in the long run. My main concern right now is just getting my weight down. Once I do that, i will start doing weights to tone....My question is, I plan on working out 7 days a week. Am I better off sticking to cardio to lose some pounds before worrying about toning up, or am I better off alternating days of cardio and weights from the start? My short term goal is to get rid of the weight and long term is to keep it off. I know that weight training is very important for the long term, and I plan on doing that.....My main concern right now is the short term weight loss and just wanted to see if cardio is better for that than cardio/weights......
4 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoAm I doing the right thing with my house?
My family and I live in a 1600sq ft home that my wife bought before we got married. It is only 5 years old and may be just a little to small for us. Its manageable, but not what we would love to have in terms of space. Anyways, the major advantage is that the house will be completely paid off in 10 years. My wife and I are considering buying a new home and are struggling trying to find out whats best. We can stay in the home we are in now, completely upgrade it (for our enjoyment, not so much resale because the upgrades would overdo the resale prices) and have a much easier and less stressful life. Or, we can move to a bigger house, have less money, and looking to be closer to our 70s before we pay off the 30 year mortgage. Its a really tough decision because the house we were looking at is incredible and it would be amazing to live there. On the other hand, staying where we were would allow us to do pretty much whatever we want. I would say, right now, we are living below our means which allows us to throw a lot of money in savings and still have enough left over to buy or do what we want. That is a very nice luxury that just wont be there if we buy the new house.......but....that new house is so incredible........I'm looking for some advice.....
