A question about background checks?
I am a recently separated veteran that sent an application for a job with Northrop Grumman. Every bit of my long application packet is fine and acceptable for employment except for one part. The background investigation. Northrop Grumman contacted me requesting an explanation of the things that appeared on my background investigation. I was able to verify and explain all but one item. A charge for "Object Sexual Penetration By Force" on my background check in September of 2008. I'm guessing it is a pseudonym for rape? I was away on a deployment during that time. I've been given speeding tickets before, but nothing that deeply criminal. I was told by the company that conducts the background investigations that I will be mailed a copy of the report and that when I receive it I am to identify the inaccurate items and start the dispute process. This will take anywhere from one to two months. I do not have that much time. Every other employer that I have applied to uses the same service for background checks. I will never get hired this way for anything. How is this possible? Is there someone that I may call to speed up the process? I offered the company scanned images or faxes of the deployment orders, but they cannot accept that until I am mailed a copy of their findings. Has this happened to anyone else? I am really in a bind now. I was promised a job with the company, but now they can't hire me until this mess is sorted out. The army isn't exactly taking prior service with open arms anymore either. It is clearly a case of mistaken identity. I am paying the price for someone's poor job of investigating. How do I fix this? Anyone? The company that did the bad reporting is AISS Sterling out of Ohio.

I have paid the fine, went to court, and attended the defensive driver course to make the insurance company happy. It isn't illegal anywhere else in Texas or any other states that I have driven in. I don't get it.
3 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police9 years agoShould I reenlist in the military and become a "lifer"?
I have had the most difficult time finding work. Every application submission, every interview, every phone call bore no fruit in securing employment. I have decided to lie and never include my military service. So far, I have had a response to every application since then. This, to me, is very unsettling. I am considering staying in the military until retirement. I am not sure if this is the right thing to do though.
