1 AnswerOther - Computers6 years agoa question about making a circuit?
I was wondering If anyone had an Idea of a circuit i could make, using stuff from radio shack,
a circuit that used a momentary usually off button so that on the first and second press it would momentarily start the device at the end of the circuit (in this case a motor), and on the third it would also momentarily activate the same device but then close the circuit. The circuit would probably also bee run by another usually closed button that you would hold down during this sequence and when released would reset the circuit.
the only problem is (Unless the whole thing is a bad idea XD) I thought of using relays but all my ideas just had all the relays activating themselves when the button was first pressed.
I though a capacitor might help in some way but I don't know how to use a capacitor XD . If it really does fill up with X amount of electricity then shuts off or powers on (I never got witch) then maybe I could use it so that it would be full after three button presses (though I;d have to find a way to discharge it...)
So if any of you had any idea on what I should do I would be grateful for advice :D
Thanks.
2 AnswersEngineering7 years agoA question about weather I have a virus or if my Anti virus has been comprised?
Ok, Now I was at a friends house trying to help him with his computer that wouldn't boot up it has windows 8. So I hooked it up using a Hard drive usb port adapter thingy and my computer ran some sort of repair, I have windows 7. I can't remember what it's called but I had it on some other USBS and you could turn it down and still use them... ANy way after doing that repair his computer booted up but ran really slow so we decided to reboot his computer after or other options didn't work out. SO we connect his hard rive to my computer again and tried to copy his documents and some of his program files. after the program files and a copy of his desktop successfully downloaded my antivirus AVG shot out a warning about some files being a risk. I tinhk their were some optinos but when it poped up it wsa pointed at my freind and whwen it got to me I acidently closed it so I don;t know where the files wer or what AVG did with them (stupid fingers). I didn't close it by hitting fo nothing but by actualy closing the windo sooo...IDK. a few seconds later a wifi control program I have called big foot crashed and when I tried to run a virus scan AVG crashed to. Any way I tried another scan and avg crashed again. I was gonna try some more stuff but he threw me out of his house (yeahhhhh he;s weird and cant improvise.) any how now I'm home and running some virus scans with AVG. when I tried the first time, it was for the files I got from is hard drive. I got the avg has crashed report from the program but it was still going in the background. The crash window said I could send za error report to AVG so I did and let the scan finish since it didn't really crash (this happens alot though window thing somethings crashed and it really didn't). any how it didn;t find anything I checked the history of AVG and it didn't show anything recent. I also scanned the whole computer and go nothing. SO iwas wondering if it sounded like if nothing really happend or, if AVG caught the virus, or if my antivirus has been comprimised, or if nothin happened. thnkas.
2 AnswersSecurity8 years agoIs it bad to have a wireless repeater to close to the originall router?
Hi there.
OK FIRST THE BACK STORY! CHECK HERE IF I DON'T GIVE ENOUGH INFO IN THE ACTUAL QUESTION!
I had my wireless adapter for my xbox break a while back and until recently (like 5 minutes ago) was using my computer, bridging the wireless to the Ethernet, to play on xbox live. At first I was looking for a way to use one of the old routers we have lying around as a bridge but none of them supported it with their own firmware and non of them could be upgraded to DD-WRT But, recently we got a new router and our old router COULD bridge connections using the integrated wireless repeating function. It took me a bunch of time but I got working a second ago but then my mom tried to get a wireless connection, it worked but now we have 2 different wireless signals of the same name.
THE QUESTION!
The question is that I remember hearing that having 2 of the exact same signals right next to each other would mess up the signal and mess with your wifi. I was focused enough on using the router as a bridge I forgot it would ALSO work as a repeater at the same time and the actually distance between the router and the repeater/bridge is very small, there like a room and a hallway apart.
SO I was wondering if they'll mess with each other since the repeater isn't on the edge of the routers range?
4 AnswersComputer Networking8 years agoIs their a service like rhapsody but for books?
Is their something like rhapsody, were you pay a monthly subscription fee and can use any music on their site, (I assume I've never used rhapsody so it may not be that great) but instead of music books for e readers? thanks.

1 AnswerProgramming & Design8 years agoHi I was wondering if you receive something like a streamed video from you tube can you store it?
Hi. To clarify I was thinking about how sites will download stuff onto our computers and we can save the web page to use offline later. I was wondering if people like were to go into the offline webpage folder and take files from it like say save youtube webpage then extract it's video. of course I don't mean for just like saved web page I mean the internet does stuff like that all the time with different things. could people save the sent information?
What I'm wondering is mostly the thought of this in society I guess? Do people do this. is it easy or is this a high level computer skill. is it only hard because you have to do it manually and there are no pre-made programs. is this one of those things that are frowned upon for some reason? or has none ever thought about this that much? also how does the information travel is it kept somewhere on the hard drive and can you acsees it while it's in use?
1 AnswerProgramming & Design8 years agoquestion about shipping food over national borders?
He he this question sounds pretty silly the way I worded it but it is a legitimate question. Basically I've gleaned information about this kind of thing from the news and stuff and wondered about it. I can't think of words to explain it so I'll give a scenario.
I'm from Cincinnati and lets say I move to Japan. Now If I end up missing the kind of food I used to eat and I call my Mom and Dad and ask them to send me chili, tartar sauce, and barbeque sauce
(that's an inside joke for people from Cincinnati. feel free to ignore it. and yes I know I should have added ice cream but sending ice cream from Ohio to Japan seemed a little unrealistic.)
,I would guess via mail or something, would that be allowed?
I seem to remember at certain international airports they have dogs trained to sniff out illegal food stuffs. I don't think I'm confusing this with drugs,I think it really was that their were certain foods that they'd confiscate on grounds of they were daises spreading or something.
So I guess my question is, can you send food via mail(I'm pretty sure yes but I want to check my bases), are their certain food restrictions or did I just dream that new report, and if so can you send any food out of the nation it's form. Or do the rules differ from place to place. ANY way I just asked this because I'm curious. I don't plan on leaving the state anytime soon. Thanks.
1 AnswerOther - Destinations8 years agoA question about Garry's mod and errors.?
Hi. I bought Garry's mod a while ago and while all the scene errors are vaguely annoying the real reason I'm prepared to buy Some version of counter strike is because I'm tired of joining certain game types and when I try to use a weapon I'm holding a glowing red error. Or when I use my shiny new weapon form the steam workshop the shininess is lost while I drown in a bunch of errors witch I assume are shell casings.
So basically I'm asking...
1.Will me buying a copy of counter strike make the errors go away when I join multilayer.
2. even if they don't will they at least fix the weapons.
3. if 1 and 2 or at least 2 are yes than whats the difference between counter strike and counter strike source and can I cheap out and by counter strike and save 10 dollars? thanks.
1 AnswerPC8 years agoHow would I learn about computers from their most simple components on up.?
I'm sorry I didn't word this question well but I have an interest that keeps coming back and ,While I don't think this question has an answerer other than repeatedly trying to learn from any source that can teach me, I feel posting this may come up with some interesting responses. I thought of this when I went online and goggled mine craft red stone computers. I only had half an idea what they were talking about. So because of this I wondered (and this is the question) how would I learn about computers not just form the end GUI and code standpoint but how it's mostly done with electricity and circuits. (if that's even how it works witch I think it is). I don't think that theirs a simple got here or read this answer but I think the responses should be interesting... if I made my point clear.
2 AnswersProgramming & Design8 years agoQuestion about a wireless routers?
Hi. I was thinking of getting my dad a wireless router for Christmas (I know I'm late but I work fast so shhh) we already have a router but the problem is that they like to randomly stop working so that you have to go and turn them on and off again to get them working. usually this only affects game consoles and his kindle but it still bugs him. Actually it bugs him to the point that I had to switch out our newer router with our old one. now when I say new I mean ones like 5 yeas old and the others like 7 (that may be an exaggeration but we've had these for a while.)
My question: Does any one know of a god router that's known for being reliable and not dropping signal? Also I play online games (but so far the old router is more than good enough so I don't think it will be that big a deal.)
2 AnswersComputer Networking8 years agoShould I get a new bulb for this projectr or is it bad?
Hi. I have had this projector for a while and when I got it the bulb was broken. since then I have now and then entertained the thought of replacing the bulb. I was wondering if it was worth it or if the projector isn't that great.
It's an in focus LP340 that's grey and blue and some word that has a meaning similar to "Business type" was thrown around I can't remember it was a long time ago (industrial?). The bulb casing is intact the wires seem fine to but the bulb it self is completely destroyed and the thing that hold the bulb and the cone with the lenses are separated. Also the cone has some cracks but only around the sides. I want to use this for videos, TV, video games, PC, so media use. that's all the relevant data can think of.
ok thanks.
2 AnswersHome Theatre8 years agoIs there any where to get a projector fixed in Cincinnati?
I don't think the projector I have is broken but I would like some information about it. To clarify I bought a projector a while ago off ebay (without doing much research I was dumb and naive ect ect) Any how when I got it it seemed to be working except the bulb was broken (whether in transit or form the buyer I don't know but it's a few years later so a little late now.) Any way every now and then I fancy the idea of trying to fix it and buy a new bulb but I never have enough information to make a disition. So I wanted to find some people in the area that know about these things and take them the project. then see if it's worth getting a new bulb how good it is ect If you know of any place like that then that's what i want to know.
If you'd rather use your knowledge of projectors to answer my question then OK. It's an in focus LP340 that's grey and blue and some word that has a meaning similar to "Business type" was thrown around I can't remember it was a long time ago (industrial?). The bulb casing is intact the wires seem find to but the bulb it self is completely destroyed and the thing that hold the bulb and the cone with the lenses are separated. Also the cone has some cracks but only around the sides. I want to use this for videos, TV, video games, PC, so media use. that's all the relevant data can think of.

1 AnswerHome Theatre8 years agoQuestions about regular computer maintenance?
Hi. I have a Alienware laptop and a old Dell Dimension 2400 but I'm guessing (and Hoping) the answer for both is the same. the question being what should I do to keep the computers in good working order. I do virus scans and I think I'm going to start backing them up regularly. so anything else?
2 AnswersOther - Computers9 years agoHelp getting a .VOB file off a DVD - RW?
ERghhh. I've been trying to for this for 2 days now. So far the answers I've come to are advanced ISO reader (ISO buster $30 :( ) a movie editor that seems high quality than normal (TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 Trial Version $50 - 100 :( ) and a driver refereed to as readdvd, free udf reader; (download link broken X( )
To clarify I have a DVD - RW I recorded Toonami on with a Samsung DVD recorder. If I watch it with my PS3 it's called a DVD - VR. I want it's .VOB file ,witch I assume is the actually video file. If it isn't all I want is something I can convert into a more, common and manipulable file like MP4 or AVI. Any how the movie editor can copy the data from the disc, (or rip it or whatever) Iso buster can find the .VOB file in the disc and ISOs made of the disc (but can't extract them because it's a trial :| merghhh.), and the upgraded drive software (or is that firmware?) didn't work but I just downloaded a random one when the others download link proved to be inactive. (witch is about when I decided I should post this question because I was doing stupid stuff). Also here's where I found out about the driver http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/211571-DVD-VR-D... .
OK SKIP TO HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ALL THAT. Sorry but that was me explaining what steps I took so far that weren't working. (and how out of it I am after failing so much) any how what I want to know is how to convert the video files from my DVD -RW (also apparently a DVD - VR) disc to a more common video file like MP4. (also my question is can you find anything I'm doing wrong in the above attempts that i can fix?) Thanks.
4 AnswersOther - Computers9 years agoQuestion about file compression (witch one does the most for what I need)?
Hi, (Here's the part where I go on a long story explaining exactly where scenario the question is being asked for. Only later to make a paragraph break summing up the question :) ) Recently (er a few months ago) I got a really nice laptop and wanted to protect it so I backed it up on a external hard drive I barley used. hrmmm I suddenly realize as much as I am enjoying telling this story it really doesn't help. Anyhow long story short I realize how important backups and data redundancy are and want to start doing it for my systems. I thought that a way to put as much back up data on one backup drive would be to compress the files. I then learned that there where to concepts in compressing (or zipping) now much loss there is and how much compression.
Backups are important so of course I want loss less. (is there a better term for that?)
So to sum it up (told you so :) ) what form of loss-less file compression gives me the most compression for a backup (containing files from text to video)
3 AnswersSoftware9 years agoHelp remembering an old show. (it had doctors, may have been British, and I remember a pedometer joke)?
Ok so technically I don't know of this show but my uncle does. If I'm remembering what he said correctly it aired (as in he saw it on not he remembered it starting up. he only saw this once by accident) on PBS, was about doctors, was probably British, probably a comedy, and the joke he remembers from it is for some reason a charter has a pedometer (step counter) and he decides to skip (or hop) wit hit on (probably thinks it will make it look like he's taking more steps) and my uncle remembers the guy skipping around a corner. I can't remember when he said he saw it but it was defiantly before 2000 maybe the 60's 70's or 80's. OH and if you can give the exact episode that would be great. Thanks for the help and sorry that it isn't much to go on.
2 AnswersOther - Television9 years agoquestoin about spiderman?
This is kind of an odd question. I was thinking of writing a story using spider man as a base (you know a fan fiction). Any how now a days when anyone does this kind of thing (professionally at least like for a video game, or movie, or something) people like it when the characters are similar to the original. they don't have to be the same but they can't be completely different. Although I'm not doing this professionally I like the idea. The problem? I've only seen the recent movies (not the most recent though I'm totally gunna get around to that) and the animated series from the 90's (with the voice actor who doesn't do angry really well... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man_%281994_TV... I've also seen unlimited but that probably doesn't count.
Any how I was wondering if the animated series was close enough to what people consider the original characters right now or If I should go somewhere else to base most of the characters off of. I know I don't really have to do this and that it's widely open to interpretation but it sounds fun. Also if your recommendation isn't a certain comic, or book, or TV series and it's something like an online synopsis do you know of any for any other marvel characters? because Alphonse whats a spider man story without marvel crossovers?

2 AnswersOther - Internet9 years agoQuestion about you tube videos not starting on replay.?
Hi. This is an odd problem but when I try to replay a you tube movie after it's done playing by hitting the restart button (the on that replaces play/pause when the video ends) it won't start and I have to click to like the first second of a video to get it to start. it's not a big deal but I wondered why its doing that and how I could fix it. thanks. and sorry if I'm not being clear.
