  • Mysterious lump? Vet says to watch it?

About two years ago Holly ( my previously abused mare) had a lump come up on her neck, just below her jaw over her jugular. I got pretty concerned after it had been there awhile and called the vet. They advised me to just keep an eye on it since it was not bothering her and some things like that are just best left alone. So I kept and eye on it, it stayed the same size then last summer it suddenly decided to abscess. I was thrilled to say the least. It was finally gone mid summer and I never thought about it again. Well now it is back again. Same size, the vet says the same thing and thinks that it will stay the way it was before then randomly abscess again. Any idea what it could be? Why is it back? It is about the size of a quarter and again does not bother her. Just below the skin and moves around when and if I mess with it. Any ideas?

  • Breed guess and conformation on two horses?

Not the best pics for conformation but give it a try. I kinda have already had them judged so I know what is wrong or not but this is for fun. Also Guess their breed? And Color? No cheating by looking at my previous posts. Closest one gets the 10 pts.

It starts with holly then goes to Blondy just scroll through. Its easier than posting alot of pics.

  • Any Ideas? No Pain Tolerance?

Blondy came in Thursday evening with a nice cut on her leg. In the five years I've had her she has not been injured. My bf has had her since she was two, she is now 11, and she was treated like a cow, basically sprayed some furason on and let her go. Her cut does not look bad but I know from the swelling their is more than meets the eye. She let me cold hose it once, but won't let me clean it and barely lets me put ointment on it. This was from the storms that rolled through, we had golf ball and quarter size hail, tornado warnings and swirling clouds, so I left them out. Do not lecture me on that my horse was the only one out years ago when tornadoes came through and the only one to survive when the barn collapsed. I have cleaned and taken care of countless counts on countless horses including a car accident victim. I know how to clean it but have never had a horse so wimpy. She won't let me get near it now without her lashing out at me. If i try to cold hose she starts to rear, and lash out. It is getting dangerous for her and me. Any ideas? She is actually not lame at all, which is surprising given how swollen and hot it is.

    Pics of wound and swelling.

Front view shows the swelling in her front right leg other is of the wound which really doens't look like much but the top might me deep but I have no idea. Any ideas on cleaning a wound on a horse with no pain tolerance?

  • Need Help with a very old climbing rose?

We have a climbing rose bush that is very old. When we bought the property it had a locust tree grown up next to it and the climbing rose went 15 feet to the top and even came down some. We carefully removed the tree and cut the excessively long leads. The stems of the bush coming out of the ground are about 2 in in diameter. It gets silver dollar size blooms of whitish pink all over it in the summer. We have wanted to move it but I was terrified so I took a lead and actually got about 10 different sections of it to root and grow. How far can I cut it back and will it harm it to move it? This thing is way out of control in an awkward place with nothing to grow on. Can I cut it down to the ground?

  • Horse mouth sores? Re-post?

Asking again since nobody seemed to read the question. My older mare presented with bloody lips one day. Since she was severly abused she didn't let me get a good look. Two days later she finally let me look at them and in her mouth and she has these ulcers/sores behind her bottom lip, one small one on the top behind her front teeth, and on the corner of her lips. She has not had a bit in her mouth for four years so I know that is not the problem! Thought about the round bale but my other mare is fine. She was wormed with panacur two days before the start of this. They are usually wormed with ivermectrin but started a new rotational schedule last summer after had some problems with weight loss. (turned out to be someones hunting dogs chasing them. Took care of that problem.) Maybe summer sores but it is just starting to warm up here in central Va. Any Ideas???

  • Sores in mouth? What are they?

My mare has sores in her mouth. It started out her lip looked bloody but today she let me look in her mouth. It has sores/ulcers in it the worst one is behind her lower lip below her teeth on the left corner. I tried to get the "junk" off of it but she wont let wash it out with water. What is this thought maybe the hay but my other mare is fine and they eat from the same round bale. I just wormed them with panacur two days before this showed up. They usually get ivermectrin but just started them on a rotational schedule mid summer was having weight loss issues. which turned out to be hunting dogs getting in and chasing them but fixed that problem too. Any ideas At all?

  • Bloody lip please help?

Mare 13 yo mare came in today with her lip caked in blood and raw. It is her whole bottom lip where it touches the top lip. Never seen this before.it looks flat and is sore. She was abused before I got her and after 5 years she is still nose shy so she wont let me do much with it. She is 100x better than she was and trust me now but whatever happened to her before was not good. Vets cant even give her shots i have to and draw blood and whatever else needs to be done. I was thinking maybe she got to eating on a thorn bush but it looks worse than that. Please any Ideas?
