  • [Mid/High-Tech] How do you defragment the OS part on a hard drive?

Hello, I have been working with computers since 1997.

Today I am trying to figure out how to defragment the OS part of a hard drive.

    Not simple normal Disk Defragment.

    For example on windows 7.

when you click start. (search) disk defragment, and hit enter.

Thats a simple disk defragment, If I am correct...

That defragments everything on the hard drive, except the os, right?

AVG pc tuneup 2012 , had an option, that on restart you could defrag the OS part of the hard drive, giving the OS normally on average a 5.5% performance speed increase.

( depending on how bad it needs to be defragmented)

This is shown after I do a normal defragment.

Since avg pc-tuneup 2012 is no longer available, and the 2014 version does not have this feature. I need to figure out how to do this manually, or get a tool/program that does have this feature.

  • I got some cpu Questions, about installing a new cpu? what is a cpu heater?

so im watching my friend put his new computer together, and he said he heard somewhere that there should be a cpu heater ....not sure if it was a hareware/device or a program.

but he says it should run the computer at max load or something to basically really heat up the cpu.

and what it does is make the thermal paste better??

    ---- what i replyed is

normally people keep the cpu fan half screweed in, and then start the computer for 5 mins. let it warm up, then turn it off and tighten the fans.. to get the best thin layer thermal paste..

am i correct? or is there something I don't know?

    -----

also what is the pre- applied thermal paste for a amd fx 4170? its not arctic silver is it?

is there anything else we should know? or any tips?
