1 AnswerSoftware5 years agoAlbert Camus' THE MYTH OF SISYPHUS I don't get it?
Okay, so in the essay, Camus says we should embrace our absurdity and keep living right? But i still don't agree with the statement. the entire essay's purpose is to discuss whether we should commit a suicide or not because there are only two ways to escape from our absurdity in the world; death or hope. but then again, i can't find his reason for the conclusion : we should accept our absurdity and make the fullest out of our lives. Camus clearly states our life has no meaning, which i agree. but wasn't his question wether we should keep living in the world where theres no meaning? does he finally find the answer for this question?
I understand to the point where a man realizes the absurdity and accept it. you could do that.
but then how on earth could the man have hope while accepting his own absurdity( including of his own mind )? Because abandoning the option of suicide means we must have hope in order for us to escape from this melancholy, right?
OR, does he suggest that we don't escape at all? and just accept the absurdity and stay melancholy for the rest of our life? Even so, I don't see any good reason why we should not commit a suicide.
whats his reasoning? Please can anyone explain it to me?????
Thanks !
1 AnswerHomework Help5 years agoAlbert Camus "the Plague" ???? whats the point?
i read the book. i don't quite get the point of the book apart from his optimistic view of our future. I think he wanted to say that theres no objective morality and meaning of our lives but its up to us if we wanna make our life meaningful. and theres the key to have a better life and thats our hope. so although he's very negative in a way that we just keep living for nothing until the day of our deaths but we could still make our lives meaningful and thats the only hope and thats what we should do. thats how i interpreted the book. did I read it correct? is it just me that thought he's being really optimistic in this book unlike" the stranger"? i liked the latter so much i think it has a lot of points but the plague for me seems to be really just a dull story that has not really many points other than the fact we stay the same before and after the plague except for those who have someone to love may realize the meaning of your life(love) after the plague. and this "love" is what makes us have a meaningful life? and those who doesn't have anyone to love, doesn't bother to put the meaning into their lives stay pretty much the same even after the plague because without the meaning of your life whatever it might be (mostly love for camus?), you are suffering from all the plague like diseases even without the actual plague. what a too long reading to correct me if i read it wrong. sorry in advance if the question is all over... thanks !
1 AnswerBooks & Authors5 years agoare we any better than the animals?
today i was thinking while watching the ppl walking down on the street. and i was sooo disgusted to see that they were all going the same way looking stressed out having the similar stuff dressing the same way... i couldnt stop imaging the rats running around rushing to the food in a cage. they dont think they just do that almost bc of thier instinct. arent we us humans doing the same? like why can we just live our own life? why would you do works you dont want? i dont like how the society has turned out becuase thats what's making us less human beings. the worst thing is some( a lot of )ppl dont even realize this and yet believing that we know everything when they dont even see the problem. we think we know better than the animals but how much do we know about the things around us? do we even know about ourselves? we cant even explain what we are. what makes us US apart from our own external body. we dont know any better than the animals that we think are inferior to us. im terrified to see that a lot of ppl dont even realize HOW IGNORANT we are and probably never realize until they die. as a human being, should we at least realize the issue? because the good ability to think is what makes us different from the animals right? im so depressed to realize the hopelessness of our situation in this world. the situation we never know anything for certain and keep living like those animals. i told what i thought to my mom and she said im crazy. am i crazy?
