  • Why is my CPU overheating when Task Manager isn't open?

I cannot find why my CPU runs hot when Task Manager or Resource Monitor isn't on.

For some odd reason, the fan is constantly running loud due to the warm CPU, but when I open either of these programs, the CPU fan slows to a quiet speed.

This started a while back, and I cannot pinpoint what the problem is. I could do a full hard drive wipe, but it's too much of a hassle and I'd have to do a lot of work that I don't want to do to wipe it.

So what could be the cause of this? A program? Process? Service? I'm experienced with PCs, so you don't need to explain it in layman's terms.

    My laptop:

    HP DV6 6193ca

    i7, 750GB HDD, 8GB RAM, dual Intel HD 3000/ATI 6490M graphics
