  • What's the best way to get an autograph at a concert?

I'm seeing The National live in three weeks time, and I REALLY want to get an autograph (and/or picture) from any one of the band. My brithday is only two weeks later, and it would just be AWESOME if I could get an autograph...but how do I go about doing it?

This is also my first concert ever. Do I ask the security guard? Or do I just stalk the band after the concert (which I don't really want to do)? I'm planning to buy some merch after the concert and then try to get that signed, and I've already bought a Sharpie :)

So, how do I go about getting an autograph at the concert? I know it seems silly, but I really love the band and an autograph would be the most amazing thing ever. Any tips? All help appreciated and thanks in advance.

  • How early should you turn up for a concert?

I'm going to see The National play live at Butterworth Hall, Warwick Arts Centre in Coventry on November 22nd. The concert starts at 8pm, and the opening band is Phosphorescent. I have bought standing tickets which are closer to the stage (seats are behind) but I really want to get to the front row. The National are pretty popular and the concert holds 1500 people standing. Therefore, I need to know how early I should get there to get into the front rows- one problem is that the concert is on a school night (it's my first concert ever) and I don't get out of school until 4pm. Considering that I need to go home, change, have dinner and meet up with my friend that will at the very least take an hour and a half. So should I aim to go to the venue at 5.30 or 6pm or is that too early? Any advice would be great.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Doctor's note for eczema- swimming?

I'm going to see my doctor today. I have mild eczema, but swimming aggravates it and recently it's been so bad that even bathing cause me to itch everywhere. My school has told me I can switch games options if I get a note from my doctor explaining my eczema. I am going to ask my doctor to write a note so that I can get out of swimming at school and do basketball or something else that doesn't affect my eczema. But what do I say i.e. how to I get him to write one? Shall I just go in and say that I'm doing swimming at school but recently my eczema has been really bad and therefore I need a note otherwise I'll still have to swim? Or should I try another approach? I've never asked my doctor to write a note before. He is old and quite scary, so yeah, what should I do? I just really want my eczema to go away and though I enjoy swimming, I want my eczema to get better before I get back into the pool- this half term has been awful for me, as everytime I get out of the pool I itch for ages and my whole body starts going red and skin comes off :O

Any help would be great and thanks in advance.

  • Going to my first concert- any tips or advice?

I'm going to be going to my first concert in November- to see The National play live at Warwick Arts Centre in Coventry, England.

I love the National and I'm going to the concert with my best mate- we're both 14.

Does anyone have any tips or advice about going to my first concert? It's been asked before, but I suppose answers relative to me reassure me better :)

BTW- the tickets are standing tickets...any advice regarding these would be awesome as well (chose to avoid seating because I wanted to be closer to the stage).

    Thanks in advance.

  • Are Nickelback really that bad...or do they get more hate than they deserve?

Don't get me wrong- I'm no fan. But they have some decent singles...How You Remind Me, Someday (they sound EXACTLY the same but I kinda like them both), Too Bad, Photograph...they're ok. Gotta Be Somebody, This Afternoon, Something In Your Mouth- those really suck, but I don't understand why they get so much hate. I mean, I actually think if anything, their music is as average as any other post-grunge band- I just don't get why THEY specifically get so much hate.

Before you question my musical taste, bear in mind that I listen to EVERYTHING (bar perhaps opera and classical). Everything from Miles Davis to Dizzee Rascal. Infact I just listened to Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs", Rick Ross' "Teflon Don" and Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited" in one fell swoop just now. So...yeah.

Anyway, I by no means like Nickelback as a band, and I think that they are indeed one of the most faceless bands out there, and Chad Kroeger's voice is truly horrible. But they have some decent songs, and so I want to know what you guys think of Nickelback...and be honest!

  • Who else cried at the Toy Story 3 ending?

I'm 14, a teenager and Indian. Going by stereotypes, I should be in that awkward section where you are too young to be an adult and therefore embrace the "it's ok for MEN to cry culture" and too old to be a kid where it's perfectly normal. So therefore I shouldn't have cried, right? And not only that but I'm Indian and typically our parents are supposed to have instilled a steel emotionlessness into us when we were growing up. So I shouldn't have cried right?

*SPOILER ALERT (go watch the move if you haven't)*

Wrong. I burst into tears when Andy was giving the toys away. I mean, Toy Story was a HUGE part of my childhood. I remember getting the original video of the first movie with the behind the scenes section at the end, and being amazed by how the movie was so elaborately made. This was when I was 5, around about the time Toy Story 2 came out as well. I also got that on video and loved that movie as well. The characters, the storylines...it was addictive.

When I knew that Toy Story 3 was coming out, I dug out my old copies of the videos, Unfortunately, they had died on me :(

But of course, I bought them on DVD again in preparation, and having watched them both 5 times in the last 5 days in anticipation, I have realised just how AMAZING the Toy Story films have been. They are the perfect definition of family film- simple and exciting enough for the kids to enjoy yet clever and sophisticated enough to make even adults chuckle (and cry). There are so many great one-liners, and little nuances that just add to the movies' awesomeness. Like when Buzz gets a "*****" at the end of Toy Story 2- with his wings popping out- that's genius. Or how when Woody tells Buster to act casual in Toy Story 2...makes me laugh every time. But nothing can beat the final scenes of Toy Story - the rocket and the falling with style into the car...just wonderful.

I know I sound so gay writing all of this out, but I just had to ask if anyone else cried. I even got teary when all of the toys were about to go into the incinerator, holding hands- it was truly saddening. And the comic relief afterwards with the aliens saving them...I mean it's just pure genius.

So come on- admit it. Did anyone else cry? Or am I just a complete gay?

  • Norah Jones Her Red Shoes?

I have been looking for this song for AGES! I can't find anywhere to buy it, and having bought the full album and the bonus CD and the AMAZONMP3 bonus track, I can't seem to find anywhere where I can legally purchase it. Does anyone have a copy that they could send to me? I would be SO grateful. My email is nagrk@pupils.kes.org.uk, and if you do have it, could you also send it to rontox95@googlemail.com, because that is my friend's email address. Alternatively, if anyone could find a rapidshare, megaupload link I would be also grateful. I just really need the song!

  • What is/are your favourite song(s)/quintessential song(s)?

In other words, what song represents you as a person, and the music that you like. This question must get asked a lot here, but I still think it's a good question to ask since people have such different tastes in music. For me, my favourite song is 'Place To Be' by Nick Drake, from my favourite album of all time 'Pink Moon'. A beautiful song, it gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.

If I were forced to list an all-time top five of my favourite songs, they would be:

    1) Place To Be - Nick Drake

    2) Red Mosquito - Pearl Jam

    3) Verse Chorus Verse (not Sappy!) - Nirvana

    4) Love's In Need Of Love Today - Stevie Wonder

    5) The Way You Move - OutKast

Yeah, a bit of a random list, and it barely represents all of the music that I love, but I guess it's a pretty accurate list of my fave songs of all time.

So, what song or songs represent you and your musical tastes?

  • Physics- energy/forces help?

I'm really stuck on this question. We have just started looking at energy and forces. The question is :

    1) A man pulls a heavy box across a horizontal floor. He finds that he has to exert a horizontal force of 60N to move the box.

a: If he moves the box 3.4m how much work has he done (answer 60N * 3.4m = 204J)

b: If the mass of the box is 65kg, what is its weight? (answer 65g * 10N/kg = 650N)

I am stuck on parts c and d:

c: How much work does the man do against the weight of the box?

d: Explain your answer to part c.

What does this mean? It doesn't haveanything to do with Kinetic energy or Gravitational potential energy because kinetic requires veolcity and gravitational requires a vertical height. So is it that I times the 204J by the weight of 650N? I have no idea!

Please explain it to me rather than just giving me the answer. All help appreciated.

  • Black Gives Way To Blue bonus tracks?

I missed my chance to pre-order Aice In Chains' new album 'Black Gives Way To Blue', but despite buying it on CD, I missed my chance to get the two iTunes bonus tracks 'Black Gives Way To Blue (Piano Mix)' and 'Your Decision (Live)'. I really want these tracks, and I would be so grateful if anyone had them or could direct me to a link to download them.

iTunes aren't offering them anymore, which is annoying :(

    My email is nagrk@kes.bham.sch.uk.

Thanks in advance. The album's good, but this whole iTunes pre-order crap really annoys me :(

  • Why hasn't my pre-order bonus track arrived on iTunes?

I pre-ordered Pearl Jam's Backspacer, and only did this just for the bonus trck Better Man (Live). However, when I turned on my computer today, it said Complete my Album, but the track wasn't there. I didn't get any email notification as well, which is odd. I completed the album, but I still didn't get the track. What is going on here!

If anyone managed to successfully download it, please tell me. I will be so grateful if they could send it to me, since iTunes Plus allows that to happen. I spent the money on it, and I NEED this track.

My email is nagrk@kes.bham.sch.uk. However, if anyone could tell me what happened, then I would be very happy.

  • Sufjan Stevens - Rare track?

Where can I find the song Vito's Ordination Song (Demo)? It was a bonus track on the vinyl edition of his album Michigan. I have the other bonus tracks, but that is the only one that I can't find. It is apparently an acoustic demo, and is 5:25 in length. If anyone can show me where to find the song, I would greatly appreciate it. Or alternatively, you could email the song if you have a copy- my email is rontu.rocker@blueyonder.co.uk.

Download links and emails greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

  • How should I tag remastered albums?

I have a lot of albums which have been remastered, such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers' first four studo albums, Nick Drake's 'Pink Moon', Stevie Wonder's 'Innervisions' etc.

However, I'm at a loss as to how to tag them. At the moment I put the original release year (i.e. 1989, 1972, 1973) despite the fact that the remastered editions were released in the 2000s. I tend to write 'Remastered' in the comments section so I remember. In my opinion, an album is an album, and since it sounds better remastered, I should keep it as the original album i.e. original release year etc.

However, should I keep doing this or not?

    Thanks in advance.

BTW, I'm asking this with regards to MP3/Lossless ID3 tags, i.e. the track information.

  • I'm bored of Red Hot Chili Peppers?!?

For two years, Red Hot Chili Peppers were my favourite band. I was, and still always will be a die-hard fan, owning all of their albums, and WAY TOO MANY rare b-sides and live tracks. However, for some reason I can't listen to a single song by them anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I love them, but I just don't find them interesting any more?!

Is this normal, and if so, what would be a good way to get back into them? I tend to listen to the more obscure tracks, as they don't feel so 'overplayed'. How can I get back to loving them again?

P.S: Don't say that I'm not a real fan. I probably own WAAAAY more RHCP music that most of you do, such as the rare Woodstock tracks, the live b-sides etc. Just because I've got bored of them, doesn't mean I still don't enjoy the music ;P

  • Is 'classic' rock (i.e. pre-90s) music any good?

I'm 13, but after reading Allmusic and Rolling Stone, and through word-of-mouth from MANY people, it seems that a lot of people give RAVE reviews of 'classic rock' artists, like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin etc.

I'm open to all kinds of music, and so I'm willing to give some of it a try. Most of my music is grunge/alt.rock/indie rock, but I also enjoy hip-hop, soul etc.

My only concern is this- does it still sound 'fresh', and not out-dated?

All answers appreciated, and all opinions welcome.

PS: The bands I'm going to check out are:

    The Beatles

    Led Zeppelin

    Ramones

    Pink Floyd

    The Clash

    Beach Boys

    The Rolling Stones

    The Velvet Underground

    AC/DC

    The Eagles

    Jimi Hendrix

    Queen

    Black Sabbath

    ...thanks.

  • Should I buy an iPod Classic?

My Sony Walkman NWZ-S639F 16GB MP3 Player has run out of space, and I've resorted to having to delete all of the videos and photos on the device, and re-encoding all of my music at a lower bitrate just to fit everything on.

I've wanted to buy an iPod Classic for a long time, as my music collection is constantly growing, and it would be FANTASTIC to have ALL of my music on it in a lossless format, instead of V2 VBR MP3 (which is still good, but I love my lossless ;P).

However, after scouring the internet for information, I have found that a few people have been saying that there are some issues with the Classic. The first is that the volume is too low, which will be a big problem for me if that is the case. Second of all, some people have ben saying that the sound quality is bad, which again would be a big turn-off for me if that was the case. Finally, people have said that the screen and back scratch too quickly, and that the click-wheel can be unresponsive.

If these problems are all true, then I won't buy the iPod. However, if they aren't, then I will. Please tell me if the sound quality is good (better or as good as the Sony player), whether or not the volume is TOO low and whether or not I should buy it. Thanks in advance.

BTW, I'm buying the 120GB Classic, with a £39.99 pair of Sennheiser CX-300 II headphones, so sound quality should be awesome. Of course that all depends on whether the sound quality the iPod produces is good or not :P

  • Pearl Jam Once Live At Palladium?

Does anyone own this rare MP3 of Once by Pearl Jam live at the Palladium, that was given out when you bought the album from Amazon? Because I bought the album normally, and being a die-hard fan, I really want the MP3, but I can't get it now. (Besides I'm not spending another £50 for one song)

If you do have it, please share it with me. My email is rontu.rocker@blueyonder.co.uk

Or you could direct me to a place where I can download it...

    All help appreciated.

  • Do you think it's good that Pearl Jam aren't a 'mainstream band'?

In the 90s, this awesome band were one of the biggest bands in the world. Fast forward to today, and they only have a few thousand die-hard fans.

I'm only 13, so I skipped the whole grunge scene anyway- but I love Pearl Jam. I also love the grunge scene anyway, with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains among my favourite bands (not all 13 year olds listen to Akon or Lady GaGa you know :P).

However, do you think that it's a good thing that they aren't mainstream, or do you think that it's highly unfair and that they deserve to be multi-platinum artists again?

Personally, I think that it's a good thing, because all of the few thousand fans that enjoy their music are die-hard fans and are very closely-knit and the band never wanted to be a mainstream band anyway. Besides, it's not like they're an indie band, as they still have plenty of fans, and even if they aren't selling out the huge arenas, they still rock, and their legacy is huge.

    All answers and opinions appreciated.

BTW- I really want to see them live. Like I said, I'm only 13, but I really want to see the 'Jam rocking in the free world...I mean stage :P Hopefully they'll come to the UK after the new album (I can't make it to the recent Manchester and London dates as they're in August when I'll be on holiday :[)!!!
