Okay, so this is really personal and I wouldn't even be asking random people on the internet about it but, honestly...I have no idea what to do and I'm scared.

This is going to be very long because I have to start at the beginning. But please, please read it because I need help.

My friend's parents are alcoholics and her dad is abusive. Even though her parents are divorced and live in separate houses, her mom gets drunk and lets her dad come over and harass her. So my friend has been trying to get emancipated so she can live on her own and get away from her parents. Since she is trying to get emancipated, she has been reporting every violent incident that occurs between her and her father, but the cops won't do anything about it. I live in a small town in Iowa where everyone knows everyone, so I'm assuming this cop is on her dad's side. This is where I need help.

Today, my friend's dad came over to her house and started slapping her in the face. She scratched her dad's arm while trying to get him to stop, so her dad called the local cops. At this point, she was hysterical, crying and everything. She called me and asked me to stay on the line while she talked to the cops, so I was on speaker phone the whole time and I could hear everything that happened.

The sheriff's deputy came over and started totally belittling her and making jokes about it. My friend was crying and saying that she didn't feel safe. She told him that her father hit her and to this, the cop said "Oh well, I don't see any marks, I need to see marks." My friend showed him two marks on her neck from where her dad grabbed her, and the cop laughed and said, "Oh, those are hickeys, I know a hickey when I see one!"

So my friend said that she didn't feel safe because her dad hit her and the cop said, "Oh, well I can take you to a shelter, but there people can knock you around if you don't do what you're supposed to. I find it despicable that you're trying to get your parents in trouble so that you can leave and sleep with your boyfriend." Because her dad had said that she wanted to stay at her boyfriends house, which she never said. So my friend didn't say anything, she just started crying harder. Then the cop said, "Oh, well this is going to put a huge burden on your parents if you go through with this and I can't believe you would put your parents through this just so you can get your way."

So at this point, I felt like I couldn't sit back and listen to them harass her like this, so I got my mom to take me to her house. I went inside and told the cop that I'd heard everything from start to finish because my friend forgot to close her phone. My friend's dad got completely pissed off and came over and shut her phone and put it away, and the cop started looking really flustered. But what I didn't tell him...was that I'd been recording their entire conversation because I wanted to take it to the sheriff and have him listen to it. But anyway, the cop ended up leaving and not doing anything about her dad, even though she's already filed reports for threats and abuse against him.

So I guess my question is...what should I do with the recording? Would that be considered illegal, to record the cop without him knowing about it, even if my friend did know? And do you think he did something wrong by handling it like this?

I'm not too picky, but i don't like really short hair and i want my bangs to be to be to the side and sort of short (not really short) and choppy...and i want the actual hair to be mediumish and choppy layers...ive looked all over and cant find good pix to show the to the person cutting my hair! Thank u soo much!
