  • Can I have feedback on this poem?

    The clock has struck the time I am to leave,

    but 'fore I go I ask you hear me sing;

    and hope my words in memory shall ring:

    when I am gone I know such shall relieve,

    though few shall care or notice it so.

    Nay, nay, I think I think that few will even know...

    I wish to say these words to set things right

    and show your place fore'er, least in my sight.

    But first I'll say the fool I was back then:

    when first I found my home, this wretched place,

    with all the world and so much time to face.

    Oh 'twas with ease my heart 'gainst me would sin:

    for when my eyes first found your likes it thought

    that you were all I seek and what I'd sought.

    The fool I was! The fool who listened as

    he knew not what or when or what he was.

    If you had known how much I had to give

    how much was yours and yours alone to take,

    you might have feigned that love in you could wake

    to see if it would die or perhaps'd live

    if it were tapped and made into a well;

    but we shall never know, we cannot tell,

    I learned the lesson fate was there to teach

    I'll kill my heart if it again should screech!

    Such pain is love when it has been misplaced;

    'tis hell on Earth to love yet be alone

    and more, much more, with all that I've been shown.

    For what is wore then love to be a waste?

    When love is love and makes a man go blind!

    When love has made a man forget his kind

    and stop but short of beasts to find his end

    alas how far that love had made me bend!

    Oh one who could have had so much as this,

    this time I say I know I shan't now miss;

    the time I wasted here should have been thine!

    Alas it that! I did not make it mine!

    And so I bid you 'bye but not you well

    in case my verse would not as such to tell.

    My lyre in hand, I leave this place in shame

    alone at dark, in just the way I came...

  • Will Self-Publishing Hurt Me? ?

    I'm writing a book more for the sake of writing a book, not for making money or attracting attention; and so my question is: if I self-publish this short ran book, basically for shits and giggles; will it hurt me later when I go about trying to sell a serious project to an actual publisher? I know I don't have to mention it to the agent, but will they or publishers care about the earlier project I did for fun?
