I recently decided to beef up my computer for some of the games being released this fall. I bought an AMD ATI Radeon HD4870X2, but I've run into nothing but problems since installing it. When booting with the card installed, the computer takes over a minute to clear the BIOS screen. Then, when booting Windows (For the first time, I've used system restore several times now) it loads Windows (In low-res, using generic drivers) and installs the drivers, and prompts me to reboot. After rebooting, it begins to load windows but the entire system freezes at the Windows loading screen. Safe mode does work, but that's about it. Manually installing the drivers downloaded from AMD's website doesn't do anything doesn;t fix the problem either. A clean install of Windows doesn't work either. Did I just get unlucky and get a defective card, or is my system configuration the problem?

-Intel DG31PR

-ATI Radeon HD4870X2

-4GB 800Mhz DDR2

-550W Power Supply (I know that ATI recommends a slightly more powerful PSU, but running it with no drives/fans/lights connected still doesn't fix the problem.)

-Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (I've also tried 32-bit, but that doesn't fix the problem)

It seems like a driver-related issue, but since it acts erratically before even beginning to load Windows, I've pretty much ruled this out. Any input is appreciated, I just need to know if I should return the card while I still can.

Hello, Today I decided to ditch iOS 3.1.2 on my iPhone 3G (Which I recently replaced with an iPhone 4, but still use for Jailbreaking/Development) and upgrade to 4.1. I had previously installed open iboot on the device to run Android (just for fun) and when I updated the OS, all went well but when i ran limera1n (Which I also used for my iPhone 4) it would go into DFU mode, but limera1n would hang at "In DFU Mode...wait." the iPhone would reboot to the "Connect to iTunes" Screen, and would need to be restored. After trying this again on my Mac (And failing) I decided to flash 3.1.2 back. After the restore, it booted to the "Connect to iTunes" screen, but I ran blackra1n anyway (on my mac, since the PC version crashes, and apparently, thats what happens with iTunes 10.0.1 and older firmware, but correct me if i'm wrong) After running blackra1n, the phone booted up, and I installed Cydia via the blackra1n app. After launching cydia, and waiting for the "Reorganizing, will close when done" to finish, I relaunched Cydia, and after staying at the loading screen for a minute, or two, the app crashed, and continues to do so everytime I launch it. I decided to restore, and re-jailbreak using the same method, but achieved the same results. I'm thinking that having open iboot previously in the bootrom might be messing things up, but I can't be sure. If i can't get this working, I'm stuck with an un-jailbreakable paperweight (Even though it runs stock 4.1 fine). I'm pretty much limited to limera1n, and blackra1n on my Mac, since they still work, unlike most programs (like sn0wbreze, and blackra1n PC) which crash with the newest version of iTunes. I also have my originalbootrom.dump from when I installed Open iBoot, if that helps...

Just recently, i decided to take my old Xbox 360 and JTAG it. It hasn't connected to Xbox Live in over a year, and it still had dashboard 7371 on it with a Xenon motherboard. I bought a ton of the 100Ohm resistors, and the 1N4148 diodes (Since you have to buy in bulk, or pay an arm and a leg) and used Se7enSins' tutorial to solder the resistors, diodes, and LPT connector, and dump the nand. After getting one or two inconsistent dumps, then 3 identical ones, i opened one of them in 360 Flash Tool, to check that it had an exploitable CB version (Which it did; 1903) and was able to extract my KV, and Config-Blocks, and inject them into an XBR image. After i did that, i flashed the image onto the console, and turned it on. Unfortunately, it wouldn't turn on. I reconnected the LPT port, and flashed the image again. When it was done, i turned it on and i was greeted with the center green light, then about 20 seconds later, the RROD with a secondary error code of 0022 (E18) This Xbox never RRod on me, so i can be pretty sure that there was no physical problem. However, when i connected it to flash the Original NAND back onto it, NandPro gives me a "Unable to detect flash controller" error. The Xbox also will power on, which it shouldn't normally do when connected via LPT. Just for the heck of it, I replaced the X-Clamps with a screw kit that i had laying around (I occasionally repair, and re-sell 360's) and baked it, with no avail. Now, after digging out the parts from my PC from the 90's, and rebuilding it to try and use it's LPT port with no success, I have no clue what to do. Could anyone hep?

Hi, about 3 weeks ago, youtube offered me a youtube partnership, with adsense. I accepted it, and then about 3 hours ago, it hit me, do i have to pay taxes on this? I am under 18, but wondered if i can still get in trouble in the future if i don't pay taxes now. The video probably hasn't generated much income, but i could build up. Could someone tell me if i have to pay taxes or not (I'm not one for filling out hundreds of IRS forms either) also, i do know that minors aren't supposed to have adsense accounts, but i didn't really care until now.

So, recently, i decided to clean my G4 MDD (it was really dusty, and starting to get on my nerves), it is a 1Ghz Dual CPU model. I Gutted the case, motherboard, cpu, power supply, drives, etc. When i did this, i was grounded to the case. After a thorough cleaning, i re-assembled it. when i went to turn it on, i pressed the power button, and the fans turned on, and the drives spun up. But, the power light went on briefly than off and it never chimed. after about 30 seconds, the fans reved up to full speed and stayed like that until i pulled the plug. so far, ive tried everything, reseated everything in the case, cpu included, but nothing. I also tried to reset the PMU, with no success. i have also tries the power supply from another mdd, but still no luck. I have been doing computer hardware work since the 80's but im stumped here.

so recently, i upgraded to an intel core 2 quad Q8400, from an E7300. I kept the E7300 at 3.0Ghz, but I plan to overclock my core 2 quad as well. what is the maximum frequency a core 2 quad run stably under air cooling (not stock) and on windows 7? im asking this because i don't want to fry my cpu after 20 minutes of use. Also, what should i set the VCORE and the FSB to?

So recently i bought a new CPU to Replace My old Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 2.20Ghz, I decided on an intel core 2 quad Q8400, i verified my system's compatibility, than bought and installed it, after installation, it took longer to boot than my pentium dc. I rebooted, and configured the bios, no luck, still slow, i defragmented the hard drive but that only speeded it up a little bit, and under system profiler, it is showing up as an intel Pentium III Xeon, yet the speeds are right,

hi, recently i bought a set of install discs for mac os 7.5 so i can upgrade my macintosh IIsi os from 7.0 to 7.5, i have 7 discs labeled:

Do i have all of the discs necessary to upgrade my os?

hi, i have a jail-broken ipod touch 2nd gen. It has worked fin for about 5 months, but recently, i turned it off. when i went to turn it back on, it showed the apple logo (the logo is custom) but it stayed there. it has been stuck at the apple logo all day until the battery ran out, than i connected it to itunes to restore it but it won't Find it because it is stuck at that screen. When i connect it to my pc it makes the device connected sound and shows "new device found-apple ipod" or at least that's what it did the first time. After a few Hard resets, it still was messed up and the problem persisted. What should i do, i cant restore it and resetting it wont work. Somebody please help!

recently i purchased an imac G4, it included everything)keyboard,speakers,mouse ect.) but, it didnt come with a powercable. i knew this when i bought it, but thought it was a standard connector,i was wrong, it is a 3 pronged connector, I have a cable that will fit, but it is only 2 prongs, (it's missing the ground pin) . i only can return this item in 4 days if there is a problem with it, i could buy a powercord, but i risk it not coming in time. Can i use my 2-pronged power cord just to test it's funcionality. (fans,chime etc.) without the computer catching on fire of any other type of failure.

when i got it, it would not even power on,it would charge even though the battery retains no charge. I completely took it apart than put it back together, after that the optical drive and hard drive would sometimes turn on at start up, but i would get no picture. i connected it to an external display, but received no picture as well, what is the main source of the issues that i have had , the motherboard?

My G4 MDD was running software update and i left the room for a minute and when i came back, the thing was frozen and the mousr power was off. i turned the computer of than back on and the thing wouldnt turn on, the light would go on than fade off, also i had just insatlled leopard on it when this happened, this was the first boot of leopard, which was why i was running software update. since i wasn't in the room at the time, i did not hear anything "pop", also nothing smelled like burning, could it be the power supply, if so than this will have to be the 3rd replacement. this is a powermac G4 MDD

I have a display panel that blew a diode, it is an apple studio display, the display blew the diode and it costs 200$ to replace the whole panel, is there anyone who can tell me what it does and where i can find one, im sure i can save money replacing the diode instead of the whole thing.

A while back i bought a foxconn motherboard and cpu combo for my PC. It had An LGA775 P4 At 3.4Ghz that was installed when i got it heat-sink already attached. the board would whole fine for about 5 Min's and than the power and hard drive lights would go off and the whole thing would freeze and the power and reset buttons would also not work. this would also happen in the bios also so i knew it wasn't software related. to turn it off you had to unplug it which was annoying. the board was handled with ESD procedures the whole time, i tried 4-5 sticks of ram, none of which solved the problem, 2 PSU's 4 Graphics cards ATI and NVIDIA 2 HDD's and it still wouldn't work. i never removed the heat-sink, thinking that it would void my warranty. what was wrong with the board, i knew it wasn't overheating, so what went wrong? I returned the board but what was wrong with it?

i am going to london soon and i need some info, what are the places and things to avoid, what should i not say, what foods should i not eat, any info will help
