  • Paid or unpaid work training?

My factory job requires employees to do frequent online safety programs with tests. If we are late, we lose our eligibility for raises, and if we miss any they have said that they're going to start firing people. They're not long but they add up with as many of them as there are. Well one of my coworkers just got in trouble for for doing one during regular work time. We were told we have to do it on our own time, either during break or from home. Is it legal for them to require us to do this for the company during our unpaid time?

  • How does 30 days notice work in February?

I've been reading that if I give my landlord 30 days notice, it goes into effect at the beginning of the next rental period and that months don't have to be prorated for a few days, so how can I make my move out date at the end of February? If I give notice in January, and it doesn't start until February 1st and 30 days carries it into March, does that mean that nobody can end their tenancy in February?

  • Evicted for trying to move out?

I m trying to move to a new apartment. My lease contains a section that specifically says that after the initial lease term, it automatically becomes month to month unless one party gives the other 60 days notice of intent to vacate.

My landlord is adamantly demanding that I sign a new lease giving up my right to have my deposit returned on move out.

I don t want to agree to that, and I m fine with being given 60 days notice and asked to leave. I am afraid of being dragged into court and evicted, and given only a few days to move out and having an eviction in my tenancy history. So I m asking if the wording in the original lease should protect me from that?

  • Roll down power window without power? Chevy Cobalt?

I m going to the salvage yard to pull door window glass but I don t anticipate the battery still being in or working in an old junked car. I don t have and can t afford a spare battery or charger. I just need to know an easy way to get a power window down by hand so I can access the clips at the bottom that connect it to the regulator. Any ideas? How much power minimum would it take to make the motor move? Could I use a 6V lantern battery?

  • Is FMLA a free pass to skip work whenever you want?

I have a couple coworkers with minor medical conditions (one has headaches, one has occasional back pain). They both call in to work whenever they feel like it and just say, I m going to miss tonight because FMLA. Every day we don t know if they re coming in until they actually show up or call in, so my employer just ends up making me do their work on top of my own and I m tired of doing the work of two or three people at once. Is this really legal?

  • What are some actual reasons people don't like Obama?

I hear people bashing Obama all the time. They call him names and complain about him a lot. But nobody can ever actually take the time to explain what they think he's actually done wrong. Sure Obamacare hasn't had the best results, but when I look around me, everyone I know is doing way better in life than they were when Bush was in charge. I've been working the same job since before he took office, and now I get paid more than I ever have anywhere before. I have to work hard for it, but I have three cars and my own place. I eat out at fancy restaurants a couple times a week. Life is good. What's there to complain about? Why can't people form a reasonable, intelligent argument instead of just name calling? Maybe there wouldn't be so much Dems vs Reps hate if people actually discussed issues instead of just being rude to each other.

  • Forced to work off the clock, laws?

My employer got a fancy new time clock that a lot of the employees are having trouble with - it doesn't work very well and if it doesn't think you're supposed to be scheduled for work at the time you try to clock in, it simply won't let you clock in. We had a meeting recently where one of our highest managers said that he's tired of fixing time clock entries and if employees can't figure out the system that he's just going to let them not get paid for any hours they can't clock in until they do. Do we have any legal options to protect us from unpaid work hours? We all make enough that even if we were unpaid for a few hours, we'd still average more than minimum wage, we'd just not be getting the wage we were promised.

  • Semi truck in an apartment complex?

In my apartment complex, some guy has brought his semi in without a trailer and parked it in the lot, sideways across 4 or 5 spaces. This wouldn't bother me, we have plenty of parking, and I don't really care about the truck just being there, but the guy goes out to it at least 3 or 4 times a day and starts it up and lets it run for an hour or two, sometimes sitting in it and revving the engine. I have to hear the engine rumbling all the time and it's loud. He even did it in the middle of the night the other night and kept me awake. The apartment manager said that the told her it was going to be there for one night and gone before morning and now it's been here for over a week. Are there any laws about parking big commercial vehicles in an apartment complex so I can call the police?

  • Will two 8 ohm speakers in series (16 ohms) sound worse than just one at 8 ohms?

I have a component stereo amp that says it can handle an 8 to 16 ohm load. It only has two speaker outs. I have four speakers that are 8 ohms each - two large floor speakers which put out good bass and two smaller bookshelf speakers that work well in the treble. I'd like to get as much range as possible, but will there be any negative side-effects of running 16 ohms per channel?

  • How to make a healthy smoothie?

I would like to know what all to put in a smoothie and in what ratios, but I want to keep it healthy. No ice cream, non-dairy milk only, no added sugar. I have bags of frozen strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, papaya, and a bunch of bananas. I also have tubs of plain yogurt and a jug of soy milk. I will probably add ground flax to the mix. I just don't know how much yogurt, fruit, or ice to use.

  • Do I have to replace my a/c accumulator when I work on my a/c?

I'm going to do a quick change of the RCV valve on my GM V7 variable stroke compressor. The instructions I've read say the system needs to be evacuated before I change it. (I have a friend who works in a shop that will reclaim the refrigerant for me.)

I won't be opening up the A/C system or replacing any major components, it's just a snap ring on the compressor, then I pop out a 2 inch long valve and pop in a new one. The system will be discharged for maybe an hour tops, and never exposed to open air. Is it really necessary to replace the accumulator and/or orifice tube for something like that? I ask because firstly, I have everything on hand to do this except PAG oil and am almost broke, and have no idea how much oil to add with the accumulator (there are literally NO repair manuals available for my car), and secondly because the orifice tube on this car is hidden behind the master cylinder by the booster, and I don't want to take apart my brakes.

  • A/C not blowing cold?

I bought a car recently, and the A/C wasn't cold. Unfortunately, I have an automatic temperature control that I set to what temp I want it to be in the car and it just turns on the A/C automatically. But when the A/C is supposed to come on, I hear the compressor clutch engage. I bought a can of R134a and hooked up the gauge to the low side port, and with the A/C on full blast, the low side was reading 100psi and when I turned the A/C off it would jump up to 125psi. So I evacuated the system until the compressor turned off, and recharged it back up to 40psi. Now with the compressor off, it reads 55 psi, and with the compressor on, it reads 40psi where I charged it to. Even still, it doesn't blow cold. Should I suspect a weak compressor, or look elsewhere?

  • Do I need my car's factory radio for everything to function?

I'm replacing my stereo in my 2002 Olds Intrigue GL but before I do, I know some of these GM's need their factory deck relocated to the trunk to control chimes and such. I just wondered how I'm supposed to know which cars are like this, and if mine is one of them?

  • Don't all foods require an ingredient label?

I stopped into a specialty store a couple days ago and bought a few high priced food items, which a friend later told me were probably completely imitation despite not saying so on the label. I realized that there is no ingredients label anywhere on the bottle. Aren't all foods supposed to have this?

  • Weller soldering gun doesn't get hot unless touching metal?

I was trying to do some soldering at work the other day, and I have never used a soldering gun, but I have lots of experience with the pencil type soldering irons. I found a very nice brand new Weller gun and decided to give it a try. I plugged it in and pulled the trigger, the light came on, but after holding it for a minute, the tip hadn't heated up at all. When I touched the tip to a nearby metal plate, the gun felt like it was humming and heated up quickly. Is this normal behavior, or is something wrong with the gun?

  • MTGO can't Cascade into a Living End?

I built a Living End deck and have used Cascade twice now and had Living End come up and it wouldn't let me cast it, it made me keep exiling to another card to cast. Did the rules change, or is this a bug?

  • What is inaccurate about Duels of the Planeswalkers?

I have read a few answers on here that said that Duels of the Planeswalkers doesn't completely follow the rules of the actual card game Magic, but I have been playing MTG for years, and when I played DotP I didn't find anything wrong with it except that the AI had an odd habit of always getting the cards it needed. What other problems, cheats, or rules violations are people talking about?
