  • Amish lumber mill near Lansing MI?

We are looking for an Amish lumber mill in central Michigan to purchase oak fence boards for a horse pasture. We have checked with local lumber companies and all of them have had very high prices. It was suggested that we try an Amish mill, but we are having a had time locating one. Does anyone know of any in the area? We are willing to drive a bit!

  • Name for paint mare?

I recently rescued a little paint mare and she has a typical paint name (Cheyenne). I don't feel like the name suits her and I don't care for it much. I also think I would like to give her a name that suits her to go along with her fresh start with me.

She is very very sweet and has a very quiet disposition. She's bay and white. She is on the smaller side and is just very delicate and lady-like. I would like to give her a cute/sweet/feminine name. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them!

The names we have come up with so far are: Annabell, Dolly, Ella, Zoe, Riley and Lacey.

  • Lessee wants to prorate a month of horse lease?

I am currently half-leasing a horse out. The person leasing him is a college student and will be going home for three weeks for Christmas break. Although she did give 30 days notice, which our lease agreement requires to terminate, she does not want to terminate the lease. She wants to prorate the lease for the time that she will be gone so she is not paying for the three weeks that she is not riding. Unfortunately, we did not address this specific issue in our lease agreement. It simply states that this is a month to month lease and 30 days notice is required when terminating. What rights do I have as far as enforcing our current lease? Is prorating like this common and acceptable? Also, is it unfair to stick to the lease and offer him to someone else if she does not comply with our current written agreement?

  • Boarder wants to lease their horse out?

As a barn owner, what additional paperwork is necessary if one of the boarders at my barn wants to "share-board" or "half-lease" their horse to another person? Does the lessee need to sign a boarding contract as well or would a liability release be sufficient? Or is their an entirely different contract that would need to be in place? The owner of the horse has a lease agreement and liability release for the lessee to sign, but will that cover me as well?

  • Name for team for humane society walk?

We're a group of 20-something year olds who are participating in a charity walk for our local humane society. We have two pitbulls, two labs, and a couple of mixed breed dogs so we're a pretty mixed group. Any suggestions on names for our team would be appreciated! We're having a hard time coming up with something fun!

  • Pit Bull puppy with a pink and black spotted nose?

My puppy is 6 months old. He has a pink and black spotted nose. Its mostly pink with black splotches. It doesn't make any difference to us, just curious since I've never seen another put bill with a nose like his. Is it a "category" like red nose or blue nose, etc? I've read a lot of forums and such where people have said it would most likely full in as he gets older, but his hasn't changed since we got him at 5 weeks old. If anybody has any info to pass on that would be great!

Also, before any negative comments are made about how young he was when we got him, it was not intentional. I was giving a friend a ride home and was stopped in a gas station parking lot and watched somebody open their car door, set a tiny puppy down in the pouring rain, then drive away. I got their plate number, reported it to the police and animal control and scooped the puppy up. Took him to our vet the next day and they estimated him to be about 5 weeks old. Regardless, he's a happy, healthy (almost 50 lbs at 6 months!), absolutely wonderful addition to our family :)

  • Tennessee Walker doesn't gait?

I'm looking at a Tennessee Walker. I don't have much experience with gaited horses. He seems like he's exactly what we're looking for, but the owner says he does not gait. I don't show and don't plan on showing. I'll be doing recreational riding and trail riding. Is it ok that he doesn't gate in my case?

  • Buying a new winter blanket- what weight should I choose?

I have a 3 year old Welsh Cob x Hackney mare. Before I had her she had not had a blanket in the winter. She develops a pretty long/thick winter coat, but we moved to a new stable and her paddock has quite a bit of open field area around it, allowing it to be windy, making it colder. She does have shelter in her paddock and is stalled at night, but I would like to put a blanket on her during the day. I am trying to decide between a medium weight or a heavy weight blanket. Any suggestions?

  • Male dog urinating on people?

I have a 2 year old Collie who has recently started lifting his leg inappropriately. The other night I had him out in the yard with me while we were having a bonfire. He was off leash/not tied up because he stays in his yard and there were plenty of people outside with him so we could keep an eye on him. My roommate was standing a few feet away towards the side of the yard and my dog got up, walked up behind my roommate and deliberately lifted his leg and urinated on the back of my roommates legs. This is the first time he's displayed this sort of behavior. The only other urination issue we've had with him is when my fiance deployed. Our dog actually dug through the laundry basket and pulled out every article of clothing of my fiance's that he could find, put it in a little pile and urinated on it. He then preceded to go through the house and urinate on anything else of my fiance's that he could find. He did it again when my fiance left at the end of his leave. Other than that, we have had no problems with the inappropriate behavior. Any insight as to why he's doing this and/or how to fix it?

  • Help evaluating Welsh Cob x Hackney bloodlines please!?

I rescued a Welsh Cob x Hackney mare in January of this year. I am more of a TB girl. This is my first experience with a Welsh Cob or Hackney, but I could not stand to leave her in the situation she was in when I came across her. Because I'm not familiar with either of these breeds, I'm not really sure how to go about evaluating her bloodline and I'm not familiar with any of horses in her pedigree. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have no intention of selling this sweet girl after all of the training and work we've done together, just want to know what I've got. I included a link to both her sire and dam's pedigree. Thanks!!

  • Motivating songs to send to deployed soldier?

My boyfriend is deployed (Afghan). I'm planning on making him a few CD's to put in his care packages. As a girl missing her boyfriend, of course I like the cute songs about missing him and waiting for him, and some of those are great to put on there as long as they're not depressing, but I would really like any suggestions, especially from guys who have been over already, as far as some songs that you guys liked to listen to to keep you motivated and in a good state of mind. Thanks in advance for your help!! :)
