  • Should I ask for a tooth extraction? Did my orthodontist screw up?

Hi, guys, I have been wearing braces for almost two years now and they have made my top and bottom teeth flare out pretty badly. I think my teeth may be overcrowded, but my orthodontist has not told me about anything.

Before braces, my top teeth were really straight and they did not flare out. What should I do?

  • I have hypochondria. I think.?

I have battled with rabies hypochondria in the past. It has plagued me several times in the past, leading me to beg my parents to go to the doctor's and them telling me I had nothing to worry about/they couldn't give me shots due to the history I told them. I finally had gotten over it and was living life normally until this happened:

Today I was walking in an extremely dark hallway in an outdoor pool bathroom. It was pitch dark. I didn't hear anything or fell anything bite me but I'm scared a rabid/grounded bat could have bit me when I went to put up a medicine ball onto it's rack. The ground of the hallway is full of mats and I was barefoot and I'm not sure if one could have bitten me. They say that bat bites cannot be felt or seen because they are so small. I swam immediately afterwards and as rabies incubation period is longer the further bitten from the brain (the foot is the farthest) and how much was injected (swimming could have killed most of it but not all so the amount would be little). This means that if it did bite me then the incubation period will be around a year. I don't want to live in this fear for a year. I'm afraid I will develop rabies and this fear is taking over my life.

I can no longer concentrate in my classes, I've become colder towards my friends, and I developed an attitude that "I'm going to die soon so why bother/plan for the future/live life happily". I cannot get professional help because I don't have money and when i talk to my parents for help they just laugh at my fear of rabies.

What should I do? How can I cope with this?!

  • Bird or a bat swooped at me!?

Today a black flying object swooped next to me but missed me and continued. I looked a few seconds later and saw a bird on the rafters where the flying animal should have been. There was a hole next to the roof though and I am afraid a bat could have swooped into the hole and it wasn't the bird that swooped and some mucous from it got into my eye/mouth (although I didn't fell anything). I don't think it bit me. Should I be afraid of rabies or am I just overreacting?

  • Can bats look like just big insects when flying?

I may or may not have had contact with a bat. I saw a strange animal/insect flying at me. It was too large to be a wasp but it wasn't near the size of a bird. It was like the size of two wasps combined and it was hard to make out what it looked like. It looked like it had clear-ish wings and it's wings were moving really fast. Was it a bat or an insect? I was flying straight at me at a crowded area (people sitting down) in a park/pool area in Austin (bat capital) and I ducked, but I am afraid it might have bit me if it was a bat. Should I be worried or is this just hypochondria? Would I have felt the bat bite me or felt the wings of the bat fly on my skin? Do bats usually have to land on the target when they bite or not? I am really worried about a possible rabies exposure Please help!
