HELP? Installing Heatsink on AM3+?
So, I have a heatsink that only faces vertical. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to get this thing to face horizontal?
I have Xigmatek Thor's Hammer. And I require the Crossbow ACK-ATI775, but I can't find it anywhere, im in the UK.
Does anyone have a suggestion, either mod the bracket or any custom bracket to use so I can turn the thing 90 degrees?
2 AnswersAdd-ons9 years agoGood 120mm LED Fan for Case? (airflow)?
Hi, can anyone recommend a good 120mm case fan (LED) for my case which has good airflow? I actually want to mount it on my heatsink Xigmatek Thors Hammer, so bare in mind the noise will be less.
I was looking at a fan I used to have, CoolerMaster Sickleflow, but they're LOUD, but I need decent airflow.
Something on the lines of my old Zalman CNPS5X heatsink, high airflow but quiet ish
CURRENT FAN:
2x 120mm Bitfenix Spectre.
2 AnswersOther - Hardware9 years agoSafe settings for overclocking AMD CPUs?
Hi what would you all consider "safe" for 24/7 use? Heres my settings, anything that jumps out as dangerous to you can you say thanks. Mostly voltages
FSB/HTT : 250
HT 2500mhz
NB 2500mhz
DRAM volt 1.500
CPU/NB Volt 1.2500
CPU Voltage 1.45 (vcore can hit 1.55)
And the scary setting, I am on air. I have 6+2 power phase, heatsink with the MB temps reporting 22c, its ASUS M5A97 PRO. CPU can hit 70 BUT I am soon receiving an Xigmatek Thors Hammer, so temperatures should drop, dual fan configuration.
These are the settings I will be using 24/7, anything that looks dangerous?
ALSO is running CPU load line calibration, CPU/NB load line calibration, CPU current capability, CPU/NB current capability and CPU power phase all set to EXTREME on this board dangerous for 24/7? Or is it just a nice feature set that gives an option for overclocking but isn't necessarily dangerous for it? For instance if all of these was set to extreme but I did no overclocking, what effect would it have compared to overclocking?
All these will be ran 24/7.
Thanks.
2 AnswersOther - Hardware9 years agoHow to Point at Array of Structures? (C++)?
How to point to array of structures? I need to point at an array so that I can pass the pointer to another function.
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
struct stockstruct
{
int cat;
char name[20];
int q;
int show;
};
void main()
{
stockstruct stock[50];
int x,max,k=0,option,usr=0;
FILE *st;
st=fopen("Stock.txt","r+");
fscanf(st,"%d",&max);
for(x=0;x<max;x++) //read
{
fscanf(st,"%d",&stock[x].cat);
fscanf(st,"%s",&stock[x].name);
fscanf(st,"%d",&stock[x].q);
fscanf(st,"%d",&stock[x].show);
...................................
I am reading from a file and need to store each part into an array for the structures. Now how would I point at the array structures so I can pass it to another function.
P.S That isn't the whole program, I need to know how to point so I can then go onto putting everything into the functions.
Thanks :)
2 AnswersProgramming & Design9 years agoBest Cooler for Overclocking? £20-25?
I was looking at the Zalman CNPS10X Optima-Shark's Fin, which I assume is just the Performa. I was going to add a second fan.
£23 on Scan
Anyone else have a suggestion that would be much better than this? Thanks. £25 max.
3 AnswersOther - Hardware9 years agoMotherboard suggestions? (read below)?
Anyone suggest a very good stable motherboard for overclocking a FX-6100 (AM3+).
I have my eyes set on ASUS M5A97 PRO (6+2 VRM) or Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 (8+2 VRM).
Apparently both overclock the FX chips well, but I am looking for at least a 5 Ghz overclock (4 cores) or 4.6Ghz+ (6 cores).
Thanks for suggestions.
3 AnswersOther - Hardware9 years agoDead graphics card or something else?
I bought a XFX HD 5830 off a guy saying it works, but for some reason when I put it into my computer it does not work.
There is no start up spin on the fan, there is no basic VGA output and I cannot use the onboard with the graphics card in. So I cannot check if the BIOS has actually recognised it or not.
I don't see why the guy would be lying, he said he doesn't do video editing or gaming, and its had very light use.
I sold my previous card, XFX HD 4870 so I see no reason for this one to work. I would of thought there would be some error, some signs of errors such as full fan spin, basic vga output but causing artifacts etc. There is nothing, the fan spins at it should after POST, but there is no start up spin, no output.
Is it really just dead? Want to know before I send it back.
My specs:
Corsair TX650w
ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3
DDR3 8GB RAM.
FX-6100
And all the other usual stuff. Is the chip really dead or is it something on my side? I would of thought there would be some life to tell me theres something wrong with it.
2 AnswersAdd-ons9 years agoWhere to buy cheap and genuine Battlefield 3?
I have three sites, anyone know a decent site to get it? I do not paying much for it, games are stupidly high. I DON'T do illegal stuff..

5 AnswersVideo & Online Games9 years agoBuying Battlefield 3 from Russia?
The game is much cheaper in Russia (because I don't want to pay that much just for a game). It is boxed and new and sealed apparently, but I am not sure about it. I know its cheaper but will it work?
It ISNT a digital download, its a physical copy, is this going to work in the UK?

Thanks :)
5 AnswersSoftware9 years agoAnyone tried this motherboard? General Opinions?
Its an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 LINK:
http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A78L...
Basically whos tried it? Any reviews?
Bad, Good?
Its going to be used with an FX-6100 (yes I know they are not good don't push me towards Phenoms).
I know its only 4+1 power phase, but ASUS are apparently good quality. Anyway any opinions are very helpful!!
3 AnswersOther - Hardware9 years agoSelling PC components? Any suggestions (Not eBay) or if anybody wants them?
I am need to sell my new two components, an Athlon II x3 440 (£50), and a Gigabyte M68MT-S2P rev 3.0 (£35).
I stupidly bought them and realised they were wrong ones, and now looking to sell them for the same price. I cannot give them back, so does anyone know a good site to make the money back?
If anyone wants them I'm selling them together ^ with £5 post and packaging.
This is relevant, are these components going to sell for that? Because they are new, unfortunately I used thermal paste on the CPU when I booted and realised and thought damn shouldn't of installed it really.
I haven't got much money, and don't want to lose out, the site won't take them back because its been opened and has no faults.
Anyone know a good site to sell these?
1 AnswerOther - Hardware9 years agoBest Heatsink and fan for CPU (Description below)?
I will be getting an AMD Athlon II x3 3.0ghz CPU and WILL be overclocking it or unlocking the fourth core.
Currently I have a cooler which is the same as a stock Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 Pro, and was looking at the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro or the new Zalman CNPS 5X. The Zalman does perform better than the Freezer 7. Only costs £15 but will it get the job done?
On hardware secrets it couldn't hold up to a i7 2600K overclocked to 4.8ghz, but as the Athlon II x3 is MUCH lower down, will the Zalman be very good or terrible?

2 AnswersOther - Hardware9 years agoAnyone experienced ASRock N68C-S-UCC AM2+/AM3 Motherboard?
Just want to know what it is like and how reliable it is.
Bit unsure about it as for AM3 it does not have a dedicated voltage line that AM3 motherboards have, and was worried it could put pressure on the motherboard.
Will be putting into it an AM3 AMD Athlon ii x3 which I will overclock and unlock the cores on.
Basically how good is Asrock and is this model any good? I currently have a Foxconn MCP61 (Acer OEM) and has lasted good few years, so anything as good as this or better is a bonus.
2 AnswersOther - Hardware10 years agoGaming mouse help for FPS?
Hi all. I have this very cheap gaming mouse (From a Chineese made company). No brand which has apparently "2400DPI" changeable from 800DPI 1600DPI up to 2400DPI. It is very decent and quite accurate.
BUT my question is apart from Logitech and the expensive brands are E-Blue Cobra any good? Heres the link...
http://www.e-blue.jp/2011/product.html
The mouse I would like is... http://www.e-blue.jp/2011/individual%20product/Cob...
Would this be a good choice for an entry level mouse? I seriously don't need some high end mouse, just something with a brand on designed for gaming. If mine really does have "2400DPI will I feel any difference with a max of 1600DPI? In first person shooters > Battlefield 3
1 AnswerOther - Hardware10 years agoCan my computer run Battlefield 3?
I haven't got the best specs in the world, but can it run it?
My monitor is 15" and maximum resolution at 768x1024.
3GB DDR2
HD 4830 512MB
Athlon 64 x 2 5600+ 2.9ghz
Pretty basic, but it can run games like Tom Clancys splinter cell conviction, ARMA II high (not max), battlefield bad company 2. It can run most games that "require" a quad core, and most games that "require" a higher GPU.
So because my monitor is small will my card run BF3?
3 AnswersOther - Hardware10 years agoSurround Setup? Help?
Right I have 6 speakers, and 3 ports. No sub woofer. (I have sound blaster x-fi xtreme gamer).
So, if I set to 7.1 should it really matter? Basically I want sound from front left, front right, left, right, back left, back right BUT I have no centre speaker.
Effectively I want a 6.0 setup is this even possible? Yes it will be fine for films and music, BUT what about for games? If sound was coming from in front of me would I hear it due to no center speaker?
2 AnswersHome Theatre10 years agoBattlefield 3 and Origin?
Went onto amazon and nearly all the comments that were bad was about the privacy concern with Origin.
Couldn't you just block origin and remove it from your firewall every time you don't use it or block it altogether.
OR isn't there an in-game client like BF2142 and BF2? Or do you HAVE to use the web based Origin?
I haven't got Battlefield 3, but was just wondering because i'm not buying it if EA can have my details.
1 AnswerSoftware10 years agoX-FI Xtreme Gamer question? (Surround sound?)?
Right, apparently the ports are like joint.
there is a green port, orange and like greyish port. According to a website it says if you wanted 5.1 or 7.1 sound you can use the 3 ports provided, but I thought only the green one is for speakers? I thought the orange and greyish one are input ports.
Please correct me if I am wrong, because I don't want to go out buying a full 4.1 system when I could use 2x2.0 speakers instead (Because I won't be using the sub woofer).
Where I found it was below, about half the page down....
1 AnswerOther - Hardware10 years agoIs this bottlenecking my Graphics card?
I haven't got much money, but my CPU scored decent in the passmark software.
Its a: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5600+ 2.9Ghz.
I can't really buy a new CPU because my motherboard only supports this one MAX. I can't buy a new board because I haven't got enough money, and if I did I wouldn't be able to buy a triple or quad core.
I have a ATI Radeon HD 4830 512MB (Decent for my games), but I am wondering if its impacting any performance.
Can a dual core really hold up with a graphics card?
