  • Probabilty question (please read for details)?

    I play a game where you buy packs of cards. All packs contain base cards and have a chance of pulling an insert card.. The ratios for these inserts vary by set and rarity. Each time you buy a pack the ratio odds reset. So if the ratio is 1:10, each time you buy a pack, you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting an insert.

    If you buy one pack, you only have that one chance once 1:10 1 time. Which means your chances are just that. 1:10.

    But if you buy say 10 packs, or 20 packs, you have that 1:10 chance 10 times or 20 times.

    I know that the actual probability of pulling an insert each individual time you open a pack doesn't change (it's always 1:10). But the likelihood of pulling an insert does increase of you open more packs, because you have that chance again and again.

    What I'm trying to figure out is this: By what percent does your chances of pulling an insert increase when you open more packs? And what kind of formula can be used to figure that out?

    And further, statistically, how many packs would you have to buy, given the ratio, before the likelihood is nearly guaranteed?

    I hope this makes sense to everyone.

  • What is this called (a fallacy of some sort, I'm guessing)?

    What is it called when you make up an argument just so you can refute that argument?

    An argument nobody is actually making, but you act like they are.

    For example: "Everyone keeps saying "Inception" is an original movie, but it's heavily inspired by Paprika and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."

    Even though no one is actually making the argument that it's an original movie.

  • How can I express this as a formula?

    So I ve done the math, but I don t know how to express it as a repeatable formula.

    A little info first. In Pokemon Go, you can evolve a Pokemon by spending a certain amount of that Pokemon s candy. This number is different for every Pokemon, and you can t use one Pokemon candy for a different type of Pokemon. So Weedle Candy can only be used to evolve Weedle.

    Whenever you catch a Pokemon, you gain 3 Candy for that Pokemon (so if I catch a Weedle, I get 3 Weedle Candy).

    You can transfer (get rid of) a Pokemon to gain 1 of that Pokemon s candy. So every Pokemon has the potential to give you 4 candy (1 for catching it and 1 for transferring it).

    You can t evolve a Pokemon if you don t have that Pokemon (so the ones you evolve will never get transferred).

    The purpose of the formula is to determine how many of a Pokemon you need to catch in order to evolve those Pokemon with no candy left over (the perfect amount as I m calling it).

    So I ll continue using Weedle for the example. Weedle evolves with 12 Candy. So I ve done the following math, where W = caught (3) + transferred (1).

    W = 3 + 1 (4)

    W = 3 + 1 (8)

    W = 3 + 1 (12)

    W = 3 (15) -Evolved w/ 3 left over (15-12 = 3)

    W = 3 + 1 (7)

    W = 3 + 1 (11)

    W = 3 (14) -Evolved w/ 2 left over

    W = 3 + 1 (6)

    W = 3 + 1 (10)

    W = 3 (13) -Evolved with 1 left over

    W = 3 + 1 (5)

    W = 3 + 1 (9)

    W = 3 (12) -Evolved with 0 left over

    So 13 Weedles. The formula should show how to get that number. In Weedles case 13. We ll call that variable "x".

  • How to tell which hand a coin is in trick?

    I remember seeing or reading about this simple trick. The magician asks the volunteer to take a single coin, and put it in one of his hands behind his back, then bring out both hands in fists, as if they both have the coin.

    The magician can then correctly guess which hand the coin is in every time.

    Does anyone know how the trick is done? I think it was shown in a movie or something, but I can't remember which one. I want to know for reasons unrelated to magic.

  • What's this classic rock song?

    All I know about it is that the intro is a guy talking. I think he's reciting the Bible, and he says "something something something temptations of evil" and then the song immediately starts afterward.

    He says it pretty fast, if I recall.

    it's a classic rock song, I believe. It's not like a Christian rock song.

    Any ideas are helpful.

  • What Action Adventure Fantasy Movies should I watch?

    I just finished watching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and now I want to watch some more action adventure fantasy movies. So can you guys suggest some?

    Here's some good points I'm looking for:

    -Similar, if possible, to Pirates of the Caribbean

    -Long (2+ hours)

    -Not too much high-fantasy (knights, dragons, kings, elves, etc.)

    -A series of movies, not a stand-alone movie.

    I've already seen the Harry Potter movies, so don't suggest those.

  • Does nobody in the Board Games section know what a board game is?

    Because nearly every question is about video games. Do you people not know what a board game is? Like, I'm being serious right now. Why are you asking questions about PS3 and PES and Godfather video games in this section?

  • Looking for some new music?

    I don't particularly like black metal, country, r&b, rap (although I do like some alternative rap), or metalcore (or any other scream-centric music).

    I mostly like/listen to pop, alternative metal, alternative rock, powermetal, some other random stuff.

  • Guide to wearing "girls clothes"?

    I have a biosex male body. I'm genderqueer (male/female/agender, fluid).

    I want, more than anything, to be able to wear clothes made for, and traditionally worn by girls (panties, skirts, blouses, lingire, bras, swimsuits, etc. etc.), but I have worn nothing but jeans and a t-shirt for so long, I have no idea how to dress this way, and how to shop for clothes like this.

    Is there some sort of guide for people with a male body to wear girls clothes?

    For clarification, I am not a drag queen, and have no interest in dressing like a drag queen. I just want to wear normal, everyday clothes like any girl would.

    Also, if it makes a difference, I'm fat.

    Could someone help me or direct me to a guide of some sort that could help me?

  • More bands/songs like these?

  • Inside of ear feels weird, sounds like tissue paper?

    The inside of my right ear sounds weird, and when I move my ear around around, it sounds and feels like crinkling tissue paper (not toilet paper, specifically tissue paper).

    It doesn't hurt, and I can hear fine. Anyone know what might be the problem?

    What are some songs about death, the afterlife, graveyards, ghosts, things like that.

    I'm not really looking for halloween-themed songs, but if they're good, that's fine. Just any song about death or things like that.

  • Is it true that pubs don't chill their beer?

    I had a teacher who used to live in England, and he told the class that English pubs don't keep the beer cold, and that the pubs themselves are kept at a relatively cold temperature (I believe he said somewhere between 60º and 75º Ferenheit).

    So is that true?

  • What's this movie?

    I remember a movie, where in one scene, the guy is getting a tattoo, but they give him one little dot, and he can't handle anymore.

    Pretty sure it was a comedy. I'm thinking Ben Stiller or Will Ferrell was in it, but I could be wrong.

    Anyone know?
