  • Parakeet doesn't want to stay in cage?

    When we first got my parakeet, he was friendly but didn't like leaving his cage that often, just sometimes. When we got a second parakeet (they shared the cage after having separate ones), the first one wasn't as friendly to us, and left his cage less often, but he still left it (or told us to take him out).

    The second bird used to leave the cage all the time and spent a good chunk of his day (with fresh food available) in front of a mirror in my room. Sometimes he'd go back to the cage to eat seeds/drink water and then go back to the mirror.

    The second bird recently died, and for the first few days the first bird didn't want to leave his cage at all, but now he never wants to be in his cage--the moment I wake him up in the morning, he tries to get out and go to my room, and even at night when he usually used to go to sleep, he tries to leave.

    He also doesn't go back to his cage to eat or drink anything, and I think he eats some of the fresh food I put in my room, but it doesn't seem like he's eating a lot of it. We have to pick him up and put him in his cage, and even then he doesn't eat or drink that much, then wants to leave it right away again. They both have a lot of toys they only play with occasionally and are available in the cage and in my room.

    His behavior is very different than what he usually acts like, and I think it's because the second bird died. I'm especially worried about his eating. If anyone has suggestions I'd appreciate it.

  • Israel PM 2019 reelection; West Bank annexation?

    Since Netanyahu was reelected, has he allowed any policies or done anything furthering the annexation of the West Bank? If he has/hasn't, what does that signify for the future of Israel?

  • General chemistry equilibrium and acids/bases problems?

    These are for a study guide, I have the answers but can't figure out how to do them.

    1. Calculate K for the following reaction if a container initially filled only with 0.351 M NOBr has a [NOBr] = 0.298 M at equilibrium. 2NOBr <--->2NO + Br2

    Answer: 8.4 x 10^-4

    2. If a container is filled with SO2CL2 to an initial pressure of 3.58 atm, what will the equilibrium pressure of SO2, Cl2, and SO2Cl2 be given the reaction SO2 + Cl2 <----> SO2Cl2.

    Answer: SO2 = 0.308 atm; Cl2 = 0.308 atm; SO2Cl2 = 3.27 atm

    For this one, I calculated Kc=1.06 x 10^3 given Kp = 34.5

    3. Calculate K for the following reaction: HClO + F- <----> HF + ClO-

    Given: Ka of HClO = 3.0 x 10^-8; Ka of HF = 7.2 x 10^-4

    Answer: K = 4.2 x 10^-5

  • Chemistry: What is the minimum mass of Na2SO4 that must be added to 65 mL of a 0.0040 M Ca(NO3)2 solution to cause precipitation to occur?

    What is the minimum mass of Na2SO4 that must be added to 65 mL of a 0.0040 M Ca(NO3)2 solution to cause precipitation to occur? (Assume a negligible change in volume from the addition of Na2SO4)?

    Ksp = 2.4*10^-5

    The correct answer is 0.055 g, but I don't know how to get there.

    What I've tried:

    CaSO4 --> Ca^2+ + (SO4)^2-

    Ksp = [Ca2+][SO42-]

    [Ca2+] = .0040 M

    2.4*10^-5 = [.0040][SO42-]

    [SO42-] = 6.0*10^-3 M

    (6.0*10^-3 mol/L)(.065 L) = 3.9*10^-4 mol SO42-

    (3.9*10^-4 mol SO42-)(96.06 g/1 mol) = .0375 g (this is the wrong answer, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong)

  • Chemistry: Will a precipitate form if 25.0 mL of a 4.5x10-4 M AgNO3 solution is mixed with 25.0 mL of a 5.0x10-4 M NH4Cl solution?

    Will a precipitate form if 25.0 mL of a 4.5x10-4 M AgNO3 solution is mixed with 25.0 mL of a 5.0x10-4 M NH4Cl solution?

    Ksp: 1.7x10-10

    I'm not doing it right, but what I've tried so far:

    AgCl (s) --> Ag+(aq) + Cl- (aq)

    Molarity of Ag+: 4.5x10-4

    Molarity of Cl-: 5.0x10-4

    Q: [Ag+][Cl-] = (4.5x10-4)(5.0x10-4) = 1.406x10-10

    The answer is that a precipitate does form (Q>Ksp), but the right Q value is 5.6x10-8, which I'm not sure how to get

  • If HCl is added to urine, can the Methylmercury [CH3Hg]+ form HgCl? Could another ion form a precipitate as well?

    If I want to test for nickel concentration in urine as well, is there a reagent that would form a precipitate with nickel? From what I ve gathered, it s present in the body as an ion. Is there something that can bind with the Nickel to make a precipitate without making a precipitate with something else?

  • Algebra word problem to solve with systems of equations?

    Manny is planning a triathlon and needs to follow these criteria when creating his plan.

    * The run needs to go completely around Fairview Park one time - has a perimeter of 4.2 miles.

    * The entire triathlon should cover a distance of 21 miles.

    * The bicycle part of the triathlon should be 20 times the distance of the swim.

    Manny finds that, on average, the members are able to swim about 2 mi/h, bicycle about 20 mi/h, and run about 7 mi/h.

    What are the distances of each part of the triathlon? How long will it take someone to finish the course?
