I have an account with Fidelity, but that's an $8 trade. I found Sogo Invest ($2 trades), but heard that was really bad. There are a ton of places, but I want one that's good service and low fees.

He is basically about 2 inches long, skinny, and loves to swim up into my whisper filter and get stuck in it. This has just started happening the last couple of days. I will see him jumping up into the filter where the clean water is running out. He'll swim up so far that he'll be hanging half out of the filter near the cartridge or he'll completely submerge himself between the cartridge and the wall of the filter and I can't even see him. I woke up this morning and couldn't find him. I pulled the filter out and out he comes... Does he have a death wish? I have been putting the leftover plastic from the tank cover in strategic spots on the filter to get him to stop, but it hasn't worked 100%. I think I have a good solution now, but I just would love to hear any comments from anyone on this. Do they like to swim upstream or something????

He is such an idiot. If anyone else did what he does they'd get plunked on their next at bat. Why does everyone give him a pass? Is it because they know he's an idiot?

I have 2 powder blue (cobalt) gouramis. They are really nice looking and about 2 inches long. I do not know if they are male or female. Most of the day they stay in separate parts of the tank, but sometimes they go near each other and it looks like they are fighting. They will go head to tail and kind of go after each other on the sides or on the tail. It looks like they are nipping at each other on the side and it does seem aggressive. Are they playing or fighting? I don't want them to get stressed. Is there anything I can do to stop them?

I have 2 bigger Cobalt (Powder) Blue Gouramis and 5 smaller Pristellas (X-Ray) Tetras. Gouramis are about 2 inches and the pristellas about 1 inch. They get along great... I have been feeding them flakes, but when I feed them, the flakes float on the water surface and the gouramis eat most of the flakes. What can I do? Do I get sinking pellets for the pristellas? Are pellets too big for them?

I often go to New World on 38th Street, but want to find some other (non-Petco/Petland) fish stores in NYC.

I left my fish unfed from Friday afternoon to Monday night. When i got home I turned the light on of the tank and they didn't eat. I figured maybe they were sleeping when I got home (around 11 o'clock at night) and didn't want to eat, ok... But then I got up in the morning and they were all clearly awake and swimming around so I put some flakes in the tank and they didn't eat any of them at all. I have a 20 gallon tank with 4 little pristellas in it. They are still cycling the tank (it's about 6 weeks old). Why wouldn't they eat?

The guy at the fish store said my lighting wasn't good enough for live plants. Is this because he was mad that I didn't buy my tank at his store or is this actually correct? Are there certain plants that would survive and thrive in my tank?

I'm guessing I just have to wait it out, but I am not sure. I have 3 pristella tetras (x-ray) and they look healthy. 2 of the 3 have really red tails and the other looks OK, just doesn't have the color in the tail that the others do... I'm guessing I just have to wait for the levels to rise and come down, but I'm not 100% sure... Please help me with any opinions.

I'm 28 years old and looking to buy a house after my 2 year lease is up on my apartment. I was thinking of holding contributions to my 401k for the next 2 years to save up money for the downpayment, etc... Is that a bad idea?
