  • Blown heater core, bad hose, etc?

A couple weeks ago I noticed my engine getting a bit warm(though not in the red), smoking and a bit low on coolant(but not out). The problem has gotten steadily worse, and it's to the point where I need to put a couple liters of coolant into the radiator/overflow each day to continue driving it. It does not overheat, but intermittently while the engine is hot, vaporous coolant will drift out of the defrost vents and from under the hood, emitting a strong odor.

The heater still blows hot, and if the coolant fog creeps out of the vents I can roll the windows down, crank the fan for a few seconds and the fog will stop for a while.

I'm certain the problem lies somewhere at least near the heater core, but I haven't seen any noticeable coolant on the floor of the interior of the car, and the heater still blows nice and hot after the engine warms up.
