  • Can earth's tilt be counterbalanced by a diametrically opposite dam?

There has been a report by NASA that earth tilt has been increased by 0.8 inch due to shift in pole. They have found that Three Gorges Dam is the cause. But may I know from physics experts how a Three Gorges Dam would tilt earth axis or shift the pole.

Then there is another proposal that diametrically opposite dam on this planet similar in scale to Three Gorges Dam would restore the tilt in axis and shift in pole. Is this true? If so how?

I kindly request to provide the best answer with some references please. Advance thanks

  • About Optimization problem?

    Hi there is a problem

There is a reservoir which has a capacity of 5 units (say), the inflow to the reservoir is in 4 time steps (say 2 units, 3 units , 4 units and 1 unit). The water has to be allocated to 3 users and the benefit of each user is as follows (user 1 = 2 benefits per unit quanity of water released, user2 =3, user 3 = 1), The reservoir has a maximum capacity of 5 units) I just want to optimize or maximize the benefits?

May I know how can I put constraints for this problem? I am trying to use MS Excel solver but still could not get a satisfactory logic. Please help and thanks in advance

  • Finding probability in these questions?

In a project, 5 excavators need to be used. The probability of a single excavator malfunctioning is 0.0594. And their operational functioning is independent from each other.

    1. Which variable should be formulated as discrete random variable?

    2. What is the probability that exactly 2 excavators will be malfunctioning?

    3. What is the probability that there are less than 3 excavators malfunctioning?

4.Give 2 reasons why independency assumption might be violated?

Anyone please be kind enough to clear my ignorance in the above questions. I am happy to thank you in advance

  • This is a problem on evaporation in hydrology?

There is a catchment which covers 80% grass and 20% forest. The total area of catchment area is 200 km^2. The evaporation of forest is 1.2 times of evaporation of grass. The total evaporation of the catchment comes to around 416 mm/annually.

So, what is the evaporation from grass and forests individually?

Please tell this solution and advance thanks please

  • Can a quantile be outside confidence intervals?

    Hello,

I have found 95% confidence intervals for a quantile in exponential distribuition. But the intervals I have arrived at suggests that the quantile is outside the 95% confidence intervals. Can anyone throw some light on whether this is true? i.e quantile can be outside a particular confidence interval?

    Advance thanks please
