  • Orbit Skipping, is it possible?

Lets say you trailed a cable into space in London and at the end of it place an anchor point which was the limit of the earth orbital height, now add another in say Sydney.

Whats to stop you from attaching a craft that would run up this cable to the end, unclip at the end, wait for the earth to do its rotation and then clip onto the second anchor point above sydney and travel down that.

Would that not work?, it would be an incredibly fast way of travelling between two points as the earth spins at over 1000mph.

Youd save on fuel and it would take you 10 hours to get there, youd just sit and wait for the anchor point to arrive before attaching to it. Maybe drink some tequila and have a party while you wait.

  • How do you cure a Wandering Spirit?

I have done a fair bit of travelling over the last 10 years, it gives me itchy feet if I stay in 1 place too long as I dream of pastures new.

Once I get there I start thinking about somewhere else, how do I become happy in the 1 place as it would be nice to have some stability? anyone else been in this situation?

  • I was asked to carry on writing this novel, is it ok though?

Stop reading when you get bored but let me know...

    ‘The Voices’

    Chapter 1:

It was shaping up to be a grand affair, the banqueting suite was clothed in crimson, champagne flowed like water from a fountain and never looked in danger of running out. Harry had much to be proud of, in fact it was his night, a benefit hosted by the company he founded, his guests were expecting an uplifting and hearty speech and he wasn’t known to disappoint.

He buttoned up his dinner jacket and shook the hand of Michael, the guest speaker as he confidently swaggered across the stage to address the audience.

Over in the corner a couple were watching the show unfold, ‘I do hope its not one of those long and dreary speeches he gives when hes had a few, god help the paying guests. If there is a god up there, I hope by now hes plotting an electricity grid meltdown, I would welcome the silence, … and the darkness’ she said with a glint in her eye.

Her partner in crime, sharing her sentiments nodded and looked over at the energetic man who had just leapt on stage, speeches and goodwill were the last thing on his mind as he felt a hand reach over and gently stroke his thigh.

‘It is with great pleasure that I am stood here tonight to talk to you about one of the great causes I hold close to my heart, thank you all for attending this evenings benefit in aid of the childrens mental health trust, a charity created to help minors seek long term respite care for their mental health issues.

As you may well know, it is with deep sadness that I lost my dear sister Helen to a crippling mental illness when she was just 14, I wish at the time there were facilities like the one were supporting today, I daresay she may well be here tonight to listen to the speech im giving you.’

‘Shed be turning in her grave you stupid melancholy old fool’, again from the corner, but barely audible to her companion who just sniggered, any amount of bad press directed at this man was fair game in his opinion and especially coming from her.

Oh how he loathed the man, of course it was pure envy through and through and If he could trade places just for a split second with this self made multi-millionaire, hed be sure to take it.

But ironically bad press was a constant companion for a man that was as sincere and kind hearted as Harry, there was a fairness in most things he did, you started out admiring him, maybe lavish a little praise and respect on the man but sooner or later you were going to feel envious, it was human nature. The only thing you could do was go through the motions like everyone else.

A short while later Harry wrapped up the speech, it probably wasn’t the longest hed ever made but this particular evening hed found it hard to concentrate, his mind constantly flashed away from the cue card and inevitably to thoughts of his sister, the kind of thoughts that only time can smooth over to form fonder memories.

He couldn’t dwell on the numerous times as a boy hed woken to hear her screams, the panic hed felt as hed pushed open her bedroom door to find her just lying there with blood coursing from her wrists. Oh how hed never forget the helpless desperate look shed given him as though she was possessed or plagued by invisible demons, it was too much to bear, this benefit was too close to home. But he had to do it, he had to show strength.

A sigh of relief accompanied the rousing applause from the room but it wasn’t his. ‘Bravo Harry, what a thoroughly nice man you are, you must be so proud of yourself’, again a snigger, ‘I don’t think I could stand the thought of a repeat next year, and there will be a repeat, mark my words, I am sick of hearing about her, she is perched on this mile high pedestal and I cant seem to knock the little ***** off’

‘Let the old man have his day and we will have ours’ Said the man. ‘Id best be off but the champagnes on ice, you know where to come, ill be waiting’ He laid a kiss on her cheek and discreetly left the room.

The lady in the corner suddenly found something to smooth over this evenings dreariness, a wry smile spread across her face.

Harry stepped off stage to allow the guest speaker to wrap up the evening with some light hearted banter, he was greeted by his PA, Becky who had sensed it had been painful but nevertheless she was always on hand to offer him some comfort, hers was a fondness that went beyond her job description, he was a genuinely nice guy.

‘Harry, I could see that was tough but you did well, I think the audience appreciated it’

‘It was probably the champagne, they’ll clap at anything, its always best to leave the speech till the end’ He chuckled ‘but thanks for the sentiment’ he said.

‘The flight is booked from London City Airport in a couple of hours to Manchester, your driver is waiting outside Harry, ive reserved your usual room, please try and keep the banter to a minimum as we don’t want to miss…’

    ‘I know, I know, don’t worry I don’t have any desi

  • Magnetic Axle, could it be the way forward for car travel?

I have been working on a magnetic axle over the last few months and it consists of 4 magnets on 4 wheels working against each other, in between each set of wheels is a set of gears so that the 1 wheel on the opposite site will turn that wheel and so forth in a sequence of 4 wheel turns.

I would have thought that the power of the magnet and its long life would make travel limitless and also the power of the rotations could keep the magnets magnetised via a coil.

If its an axle it should be useful for anything with 4 wheels.

Do you think there any limitations to something like this?

    Thanks.

  • Space boundaries, are there any?

If we think of the Big Bang as the creator of our current universe I can only think of it in a physical way like a large balloon expanding and contracting but what really puzzles me is the question of what is it expanding into? Is it just a void and if it is it obviously accommodates this expansion but the most frustrating question is the existence of something for it to expand into and that also exists but doesnt that also exist in something too. Its very mindblowing :-)

  • Why the need to blast into space when you could just cruise up?

I saw a science experiment that took a balloon up to the 100km Karman line that is the boundary between space and the atmosphere. Surely you wouldnt need expensive and dangerous motors to pull you quickly out of earths orbit and into space when you could just motor slowly upwards and downwards as you please, a bit like using a submarine in the ocean?

  • Could planets actually be formed from the Sun?

Could hot gas from the sun cause the creation of planets, if the gas ball cooled enough to create a crust on the outside but still be like a pressure cooker on the inside then it could be the reason for the hot magma that must be the core of all the planets.

As the planets orbit around the sun through gravity then surely the sun created them? It sounds like a dumb question to ask but no one has any proof.

There is no detection of planets away from any suns gravitational field.

    What do people think?
