  • What do you think this dog is mixed with?

I am thinking about adopting this puppy tomorrow, but I would like to get some opinions as to what he is mixed with (I know it says that he is a lab mix on his page, but what is your opinion).

  • I think my dog may have fleas?

Here is the kicker....she was just spayed yesterday! We adopted her from the shelter and they did not bathe her so she is filthy and I think she may have fleas. Now, I know she is not allowed to have a bath yet, but is there any way that I could clean her up and what can I do about the flea problem?

  • How should I feed an underweight dog?

I adopted a shelter dog yesterday who is very underweight (you can see every bone on her) and was wondering if anyone has experience taking care of a dog that is underweight. I am picking her up tomorrow from the shelter (they had to spay her before she could come home) and was wondering how often and how much I should feed her at first. She is a Lab and weights only 40 lbs. I already have a high quality dog food for her (no corn, wheat, or beef in it); I just need some recommendations on how often and how much she should be eating a day (so she is not too stressed). Also, she is being treated for a low case of heartworms, and any information someone could provide would be helpful. I was told that she could not be exercised right away because of her heart.

  • Question about Metformin and PCOS.?

Has anyone else experienced side effects from taking Metformin for PCOS? I took Metformin for about 8 months and have since stopped taking it because it caused me to become lethargic and tired all the time (and a bit depressed). I have been off it for a month (without my doctor knowing) now and feel much better; I am able to get up in the morning and actually have the motivation to go out and exercise (I need to some weight). I refuse to take it anymore...it made me feel horrible! Has anyone in the same situation tried anything for PCOS/insulin resistance with success?

  • Complications of neutering?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the complications of neutering a dog (55 lb, 6 month old, German Shepherd). I am back and forth about either taking him to my vet ($400) or going to the free spay and neuter clinic in my area. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Which dog food is best for my dog?

I have a GSD, 5 months old, 50+ pounds (size appropriate to weight) currently on Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy Lamb Meal and Rice Formula. The problem is that the company is having issues keeping it in stock and it is no longer available. We have since switched him to Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy (chicken). He hates chicken...

My question is: What can we get that is comparable in quality and price (please don't suggest Royal Canin, Solid Gold, Blue, etc...it is out of our price range).

We are thinking of Nutro Ultra, Nature's Recipe and Authority (Petsmart brand).

Also, does anyone know the difference between large breed food and regular. I know it is specific to large breed dogs, but does it really make that big of a difference? Could I add a supplement for joint health?

We will be switching him to adult food.

  • Roundworm in dog stool?

My GSD has been de-wormed and has had a fecal exam about 3 weeks ago and the vet gave an all clear, but I just took him outside and he had a dead roundworm in his stool. Is this normal or will I need to take him to the vet to start another round of de-wormer? Is there anything that I can give him (OTC)? He is already on Interceptor.

  • Holistic Vets?

Does anyone take their pets to a holistic vet? If so, why do you like them better then a regular vet? Does anyone know of a good holistic vet in Matthews or Charlotte, NC?

  • Walking a dog in the rain...?

Okay, so my GSD has a lot of energy and needs to go on a walk...but it's raining heavily...and he HATES the rain. What should I do? Do dog owners usually walk their dog in heavy rain? I don't mind taking him out when it's raining, but he does! He is only 17 weeks old and I don't want to put him under stress. Any suggests?

  • Dog got to Girl Scout Cookies (Thin Mints)?

Forgot to put cookies up when I went to see the lunar eclipse and my German Shepherd (4 months old, 35 lbs) ate about 6 cookies. He's not showing any signs of poisoning (no restlessness, hyperactivity, muscle twitching, increased urination and/or excessive panting), but then this only happened 30 minutes ago.

Should I induce vomit, if so, how?

    Call the emergency vet?

If he has been poisoned, when would the symptoms start?

He's actually just laying down in his bed and falling asleep? Is this a good sign...or should I wake him?

I know this was irresponsible on my part, I just need some serious answers, please.

  • Skin tag or wart on puppy.?

Does anyone know if skin tags or warts are normal for an eight week old puppy? I just noticed them today and was wondering if I should be concerned. They are located on the underside...his belly.
