For pencil artists: How do I differ lines of shadow and shading from facial hair?
I'm drawing a portrait of an actor and there's slight facial hair, but just around the mouth, not on the cheeks. Although, there are spaces of shadow on his jaw and I don't want it to blend with the facial hair.
For the hair, I'm making a lot of quick, small lines to make it look like hair. And I'm not that great at drawing shadows and shading.
So how can I show the hair as the hair, and not have it look like a full beard around his cheeks.
I would love the advice. Thank you.
2 AnswersDrawing & Illustration8 years agoHow do I know if I have diabetes?
Basically, I am 24-year-old male, 215-220 lbs., and I am an unhealthy eater.
I never go a day without having a soda, but I never measure the oz. of the drink. And I'm a major junk food eater. I know I should eat much more healthy, which I do sometimes. I eat salads, fruits, and vegetables. But I worry that I may get diabetes soon.
I don't know what the symptoms are. But I'm confident that I don't carry them. The only time I ever feel physically sick is an upset stomach, or suffering from a cold. I sleep well so I don't wake up in the middle of the night. But I still don't know if I'm likely to get them or not in the future.
Like I said, while I eat healthy sometimes, I often eat something that's junk food and I'm always drinking soda. And at 215-220 lbs, I don't know if I'm at risk for them based on my weight issues.
6 AnswersDiabetes9 years agoAren't Pulitzer Prizes as important as others?
When we hear the term EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony), that means someone who won each of those awards. For example, Rita Moreno and Barbra Streisand.
(It could also be GATE (Grammy, Academy, Tony, Emmy))
Out of those four awards, one is meant for movies and film, television, music, and theater. But a Pulitzer Prize is generally focused on Literature and Journalists.
Wouldn't it count to be considered PAGET or PEGOT? Because books aren't included in the EGOT phrase.
3 AnswersOther - Arts & Humanities1 decade agoWhere do these names come from?
Whenj we shorten names to nicknames, where does a new letter come from?
The B in Bill (William)
The K in Hank (Henry)
The U/K in Chuck (Charles)
The extra T and the Y in Betty (Elizabeth)
The K in Mike (Michael)
Some girls whose name is Kate could be short for Catherine (Or Kathryn/Katherine, but how does the C become a K?)
Maybe it's just a natural thing with no answer.
2 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoI wonder why animals like turtles and snails move so slowly.?
Is it because the shells are very heavy which puts a lot of weight on their bodies or just not long enough legs? Although, snails slither. They don't have legs.
It's probably a different for why turtles move slowly and snails slither slowly. I'm thinking it's the weight of the shells.
6 AnswersZoology1 decade agoDo you eat Sunflower Seeds?
Like as a snack? I really don't like those. I had a few once and they get jammed into my teeth and they're hard to pick out. Besides, I don't find them to be sweet.
Pumpkin seeds are another snack, and I don;t like those either. They're very salty.

I love asking this to people and whenever I do, they're always stumped.
5 AnswersJokes & Riddles1 decade agoWhat is a good title for my photograph?
I am submitting two photographs for an art show for tomorrow and I would like suggestions of a title.
Specifically a song title.
I already have a sky that started raining right after I took the photo called "Blame it on the Weatherman" which is a song by B*Witched. And I have another one of the sun shining right into the camera.
I'm already considering...
"Sunshine on my Shoulders Makes me Happy" (I don't know that song and the sun wasn't on my shoulders)
"Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles (I don't like that song)
"Waiting on the Sun" by Sixpence None the Richer (The sun was already out so I wasn't waiting anymore)
and "Soak up the Sun" by Sheryl Crowe (don't know that song very much)
Any song title with the word "sun" in it would be great.
I'll choose Best Answer soon with the answerer who's title I used.
Thanks.
2 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoWhat should the title be?
I started a screenplay today and gotten far into it where it's supposed to have a title, but I don't know what to call it.
It's about a teenage girl falling in love with a college student. It takes place this June and the characters, Abby and Vincent, are crazy about each other. That's basically what it's about. i have to find some sort of twist in the plot, but basically, it's about two people hooking up.
And I have no idea what to call it. I like title references. For example, I wrote a romantic comedy last summer called "My Fair Sadie" (in reference to "My Fair Lady") and a fantasy film called "Legends of the Mall" (in reference to "Legends of the Fall"). But I also use original titles.
And I have no idea what to call this one. I'd give more detail about it, but I'm not that far into writing it.
I'm kind of considering the title "Modern Love Story", but I'm still not sure. Any ideas would be well accepted.
3 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoWhy do we BAKE COOK-ies, but we don't COOK BAKE-ys?
Just a thought. I mean, if you think about it, cookies aren't something you really cook.
Is there anything else like that? I mean, word-wise.
For example, people luck OUT when they're IN luck. The alarm goes OFF when it really turns ON.
2 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoHas your snack ever got stuck in a vending machine?
Never. Not once. I always seem to not have that bad luck or something about the rack twisting and the chips, cookies, or candy stay.
10 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoHow do I make friends?
I take a fiction class in community college and there's this guy, who's probably as old as I am, and he's very smart and always takes parts in the discussions.
I'd like to know him because I think that we would have lots to talk about. He seems very friendly, but I've never spoken to him before.
Normally, my friends that I already have don't have much in common with me. They're into sports and partying and drinking, but this guy doesn't seem like that to me. He looks like he wants to be professional and so do I. And I'm nervous about meeting him. I know his name all all, but during the class, we don't sit near each other and I'd like to have a conversation with himk or something.
What should I say?
5 AnswersFriends1 decade agoIs hating love the same as loving hatred?
Because if you think about it, when you hate love and romance, that means you love hate.
Do any of you hate love or love hate?
I don't hate or love either one.
6 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoHow do I make Peppermint Brownies?
With Christmas coming up, I had the idea to make peppermit brownies by using Peppermint Extract and crushed peppermint candies as a topping.
Any good brownie recipes to maybe serve 10-15 people that I might see for Christmas.
Thank you in advance.
6 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoIs there anything you were too dumb to figure out but eventually got it?
For example, I thought that in car dealerships when they have the newer cars inside, they have to build the dealership around the car. Then I saw that they had wide enough doors for the car to drive though.
What about you guys?
4 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoAny books about weddings?
Lately I've been imagining weddings and stuff like that. And I want to possibly start a novel about a wedding. I'm already familiar with "That Summer" by Sarah Dessen because I've seen How to Deal in which that book is half of what the movie is about.
But are there any other novles about a wedding or a couple getting married? I would appreciate lots of comedic or dramatic suggested books.
2 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoWhy don't people act their age?
I recently went back to college just for two classes and most of the students I see around the campus are acting very immature, and childish. Though it's a community college and I won't be here for long as I start going to another school for similar classes this summer. Whereas I also hope people act and behave properly.
But these people are laughing at the littlest things, on the library computers they're always on My Space or Facebook (though I still like Facebook but I at least have a life) and some of the people in my music class don't even seem to care for it. At least most of them. Others in class seem to actually want to take it. But if they didn't, why did they choose the class in the first place?
The people here are supposedly 18 or 19 years old. And when I first went to college long go after high school, people actually cared for their classes and achievements. But that was a private college, and kind of better than this. But private or community, it's driving me crazy to seem them acting like freaks.
8 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoWhat is a complete annoyance to you?
I once asked a question saying what musical intrument you can't bear the sound of, but this time I'm asking any kind of sound music or not.
I'm annoyed by little kid's laughter. They think things are so funny even when they're really not.
4 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoWhat is your inner child?
Mine is, I still like the little kid cereal. Lucky Charms specificially.
What about you? And don't worry about trying to not sound funny. Do you still like something you liked as a child? Little kid cereal?
14 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoHow can I trigger a situation like that?
I started a new film a month and a half ago (Alex in a Tale) and and just got back to it. And it's about these two book group members, Alex and Holly, who often disagree with each other. And they're new book to read is supposed to be a horror book. And they go to the horror section of a library and Alex finds the book and suddenly gets sucked into it. And Holly needs to find him and so she tracks down the author, Matt, and works together to get him out of the book. Really the story centers around Matt who figures out why his book sucked people into it.
And I'm wondering how I can trigger the part where Alex gets sucked in it. She he open it up to scan it and then he's warped in, or is there some other way he ends up in the book whereas Holly finds out he got in even though she didn't see him?
I'll choose Best Answer soon and whoever I choose will get some sort of credit if this film gets made. That is if the even want a credit in the special thanks or something. I'm just a writer, but I would still acknowledge the answerer who helps me out. Thank you.
