I have an oscar in a 55 gallon... I've had him for almost a year and he's around 6-6 1/2 inches, I know small but I don't feed him 2-3 times a day and don't feed him live food often. His diet consists of Cichlid Bio-Gold pellets, bloodworms, peas, algae wafers, bell peppers, zucchini, carrots, garlic, oranges, bananas, lettuce, blue berries, mysis shrimp, and tubifex worms. I also feed him meal beetles, meal worms, and earthworms every few days... I do 50% water changes weekly, and do a 20% in the middle of the week. I have an eheim 2213 and an eheim 2217 classic canister filter...

The parameters are ammonia 0 nitrite 0 and nitrate is at 0-10 ppm usually. How big will he end up getting? Will he end p getting to around 12 inches? I'm asking all of you with experience in keeping oscars in a 55 gallon.

I've had a 20 gallon tank for a while and the fish in there aren't exactly what I was looking for (they're small and not colorful or interesting), I've had it for 2 years and want to change the species. I was thinking about getting two rams, but the tank is a high 20 gallon, so I was wondering if that's okay too.

If not what other species is an intermediate to difficult fish to care for (I want more practice at the hobby) that can go in a 20 gallon? Thanks!

I want to get a Lake Malawi Cichlid tank but I have no idea where to get all those rocks! I don't have many places to get rocks from so where do you find them/purchase them in large quantities? I don not want to go with artificial decor, as this is very expensive and not as natural. So where do you get them! Thanks.

P.S. I'm going to check my local fish store to see how much they cost per lb. is the local fish store the place where everyone gets em?

I'm going to set up a pond eventually and don't know where to get the rocks, I need a lot of them to cover the liner and stuff. Do I need to find rocks? Or do I buy them somewhere? It's not going to be a very big pond, only around 200 gallons.

I have 1 female convict and 1 male and they, well don't like each other. Whenever the female is in the males sight he chases her away. Will they be so desperate to breed they will come to like each other? Or will they probably not breed? The female doesn't have the orange on the sides by the way but she did at the store. I got them on the same trip to the city and went to two different stores to assure they weren't brother and sister. The male is around 1 1/2 inches the female 1 inch. Will they breed.

I am going to breed convicts soon and want to make my aquarium look nice too, what's a plant that looks nice with these cichlids? I can't seem to picture the fish with the plants, so I have decided to ask people with experience. Thank you!

I was wondering, because I have 6 gallon community tank, if I have 6 gallon tropical freshwater what is one fish for the tank? It would be the only fish in the tank, I'm not saying I'm doing it right now but in the next few years when my fish past what would be a good fish for a 6 gal?

Is there a fish that can be with an Oscar in a 55 gal. tank and not fight/hurt one another?

I was getting an oscar and I don't know if I could get fake plants or the oscar will just uproot them to make em look ugly.

I bought a 55 gallon tank recently and found out my floor isn't level. I've heard that shims work but then there is space under the tank not touching the ground, would that cause the tank and or stand to break? Thanks. P.S. I need a board that is one inch to level it out if that helps.

I was getting a 55 gallon tank in the future and saw an inexpensive tank from petsmart, the Top Fin 55 gallon starter kit. Is the tank good quality? Or will the tank just crack at the seams and kill the fish and make it a waste of money? Also is the glass strong or can a strong, aggressive fish break it? :D

Also if someone could give me a link to a great, strong stand for a 55 gallon tank that'll last a few decades that would be cool too. Thanks.

I was really looking forward to getting a Jack Dempsey and was looking for tanks but I don't really know the minimum tank size for one, please tell me, thanks you. If you could also tell the minimum tank size for an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey I would like that.

Hi, I need to know what type of substrate I should get with a Jack Dempsey, the best type possible please, but not expensive, just leave a link or give me a suggestion please. I was going to get a new 55 gallon tank in the near future. I know I'm getting an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey or a regular JD. People say that you can put an EBJD with a firemouth, can I do this with a 55 gallon tank with lots of hiding places? Could I do it with a regular JD? Thank you.

I was looking at heaters for a new tank (new one will be 55 gallons) and I saw one that was a good price and lots of good reviews. The only thing I wondered was that the gallons it could maintain were either 40-53 gallons and 53-70, if i get the one that's stronger is it harmful for the fish? If so how? Also if zi get the lower voltage or watts one could I just get another one for a 3 gallon tank and put it in with the lower watts one?

Hey, I need to know about the Top Fin 55 gallon starter kit tank. The first thing I'd like to ask is the glass thick enough for a ramming fish (say an Oscar or Jack Dempsey for ex.)? Also I would like to know if there are any leaks sometimes on defective items, and if the leaks can be stopped by sealants. Thanks.

Let's say you have a pH of 7.0, would that affect gH or kH? If it would how does kH and gH relate to pH?
