  • Wedding planning etiquette?

I have asked this question already but according to others I should have been more specific.

My fiance and I got engaged June 2016. We found a venue which she fell in love with straight away. It's pricey so to save for it we are delaying our wedding till December 2018.

The venue is not just any function room (as I assume most people thought last time I asked). It's a castle restored in the 1920's and ,according to the women I asked, it's the whole wedding, so decor, theme, everything is the venue. Short of covering everything in the place there is really only one kind of wedding that can be there.

We also live in the South West of Ireland so venues are abundant. (One street, in one town alone, has over thirty of various capacities and tastes).

A friend of mine (also a guy) got engaged in December and 2 nights ago asked if he and his fiance would be "cramping our style" if they used the same venue (so had the same wedding) as us in April 2018.

Now I haven't discussed this with my future wife yet, and to tell you the truth it wouldn't really bother me, but I'm a guy (duh) and as such may not fully understand the wedding etiquette.

It's that he asked about "cramping or style" that got me thinking and I figured I better seek outside council.

Is using another person wedding before them nothing, or is it like using somebody else's baby name?

Is asking me a way of turning me into the bad guy if I say "it's in bad taste"? I ask because I definitely don't want to do that to the woman in my life.

  • Workplace relations? Part-time Competition?

Following a few weeks of difficult circumstances at work, a person asks to speak to their supervisor.

The person points out that their hours are being reduced below less experienced staff (4 years less experience)

    And

That less experienced staff are put in charge when the supervisor isn't present.

This means that experienced staff are correcting the errors of people they are subordinate to, for the day.

    In this conversation the supervisor points out that;

That all staff have to be trained to the highest standard.

That all staff are now "COMPETING" for hours and to be the "right hand" of the supervisor.

That if errors occurred on the day the more experienced staff would be held accountable.

This to me means that some staff are being given preferential treatment while other staff have the bar set so high that cannot move ahead.

I know this is morally wrong... but is it ILLEGAL???

  • Game theory applied to bar work?

Given the current economy my employers have still been able to expand our company, however they have not improved the equipment to facilitate the increase. I have been charged with the task of doing far more with the same infrastructure.

I have devised a way to increase efficiency through sequencing but am unable to convince any other part of the company to change the way they do things even though it would increase their individual earning potential. That is why I would like some help from those far better at explaining this sort of thing.

I will put this in the only way I can accurately describe the situation so please bear with me.

There is 1 barman (in a confined space which allows only 1 barman to serve at a time) for a residence which has 11 serving areas. The bar which has regular customers and each individual serving section.

1 member of waiting staff serves each area.

Each drink takes a certain amount of time to prepare.

Stout which requires a pour, settle and second pour.

Beer on draught which requires a single pour.

Bottles and shots which are pretty much prepackage for quality and speed.

Cocktails are only served on special occasions because with only one barman the time taken to produce a cocktail takes away from other quicker and more profitable services.

No sequence for placing a drink order was ever instituted with the waiting staff.

It is explained to them that if they placed stout orders first the barman could have it poured and allow it to settle while other drinks are being prepared. This would allow the barman to produce each order more quickly and so serve more of the waiting staff, allowing them to serve more customers increasing the amount of money made by the bar and increase each individual waiters chance to get tips. This would also allow the barman to serve the regular customers and not lose them to other bars.

I imagine this sort of sequencing already exist in game theory and so I would like to take forward the example so each individual member of staff could be instructed to carry out their work to maximise profits for the company.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Are all women assigned a bitchy friend?

Are all women assigned a bitchy friend?

The last few women I've dated have all had the ridiculous bitchy friend.

They scowl, roll their eyes, start intense conversations that, somehow, make you out to be the bad guy and generally insult you without any cause.

A girl-friend (that's a friend that is a girl) of mine has one so bad that she hides the guy she's dating from her.

This girl is so bad that while on a date she insulted the guy so much that he decided to leave early, when she asked "want me to come?" he put a hand on either shoulder, looked straight into her eyes and said "don't ever change" before walking away.

I've got guy friends that can be aggressive but if they offend you can say quite openly "stop being a dick."

Where do these women come from? As soon as a group of girls become friends do they nominate one of them to become the ***** of the group? And why is it that when they are being openly aggressive towards somebody everybody just says "that's just the way they are" making it your problem for feeling intimidated.

  • Should it only be a "True fan" that picks up a movies sequel/remake/redo?

I love seeing a different incarnation of my favourite heroes, villains and mythologies but it's gone too far wrong, too often, for my liking.

Joel Schumacher took over Tim Burtons Batman series and drove it into the ground but Chris Nolan revitalised it.

The Animatrix was far superior to the "live-action" movie sequels.

Prometheus is about to come out and I'm delighted that Scott returned to the genre he helped define but I'm scared. I've been let down to often by the Snyder's (that really loves superman), the Raimi's (that really loved Spiderman) and the Shyamalans (that were huge fans of Aang). Not that Scott would mess up but just that I already love the series he was involved in and I'd hate to be disappointed if both himself and the incredible trailed, fail to live up to all the amazing things I'm got in my head. Will it become to fantastical for it to be good.

Saying you loved something or were a huge fan doesn't mean you can take your spin on things.

Firstly, if you were a huge fan, the only reason you should be there is to highlight what made the subject matter popular in the first place... not put your interpretation on screen.

Goku (Dragonball), Spike (Cowboy Bebop) and Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist) are always eating.

  • Proxy server error????????????????????????????????????????????

A friend of mine has been having trouble with his internet connection.

He kept getting pop-up messages from bing and ask.com.

He decided to follow the prompts that said he could stop these messages but ended up blocking both google and yahoo search engines, meaning he can now only connect to ask and bing.com.

I had a very quick look at it for him and something about the proxy server came up.

He's using a usb/mobile internet device. With Vodafone.

Does anybody know anything to do in these circumstances.

Sorry I don't have any further information but I only had a quick look at it... and I'll admit, I was drunk at the time.

10 points for the answer that solves the problem.

  • Movie projector for a head?

Ever wish you had a movie projector with you when something came up in a conversation?

I'm not talking about "what happened in this scene at this point?"

I'm talking about thought bubbles. Somebody mentions something and immediately some scene from a movie or series pops into your head that would suit everything perfectly if it was visible just as you thought it.

On Facebook I saw a post from a friend. He opened and unsuccessful gallery and said:

"waiting for the insurance to clear so i can burn it down"

As soon as I saw it I thought:

    http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.y...

This happens quiet a lot and I was wondering if it happened to anybody else.

1> I know there'll be a smart alec response to this and I leave it up in the hopes that there'll be a clever rebuttal

2> How often does a certain movie/ tv show pop into you head in relation to the above question?

i.e. when anything goes wrong, but is still salvageable, I think of the Simpson's vegetarian episode:

It's just a little airborne, it's still good it's still good.

3> Can you think of movies/series that use cut aways like above?

e.g. Hackers uses split second clips like gladiators clashing swords when Crash Overide treads on Acid Burns turf?

  • Taste: Popular vs. good?

Just wondering if you know anybody that seems to despise almost everything popular, just to appear to have better taste.

What was popular that they disliked?

    AND,

What indie/foreign* film did they say was great but was just pretentious?

    * I want it noted that I'm not against these movies. I'm against anybody that can put down blockbusters so that when they mention something that nobody has heard of, they can feel superior.

  • The best TRACK you've found either on or through a soundtrack?

Now obviously this is going to be a big list.

I find most bands through soundtracks for movies or TV shows... but I want your top 5-10.

    So far I've got;

TV on the Radio DLZ from Breaking Bad season 2 episode 10

Fortunate Son(instrumental) by Lyle Workman & The Forest Rangers from Sons of Anarchy

Sorrowful Stone from Mullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Blue Skies sung by Willie Nelson which I found through Star Trek Insurrection

Needle in the Hay by Elliot Smith from The Royal Tenenbaums (and I found this through Suicides question on Busking - completely forgot about it till I heard it - you're exempt from the 10 points but leave an answer anyway)

Going out west by Tom Waits from Fight Club + Where is my mind by the Pixies

Partyman by Prince from Batman (1989)

I'm missing a load... and a lot of the ones above are tied into the scenes themselves so....

    In the style of others:

BQ: what music didn't suit a scene in your opinion? (e.g. Leonard Cohen's version of hallelujah in Watchmen)

BBQ: What tracks were better in the film version than they were on the soundtrack released? (e.g. Sugar-high in Empire Records)

BQ3: What used the same song to its full potential in different ways?

(e.g. Freebird in 1> The Devils Rejects 2> Duets).
