3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWhen would Javascript be more useful than C++?
From what I understand, i'm eventuallyl going to have to learn Javascript in addition to the C++ i'm learning now, but i'd like to know why.
This will probably seem like a completely noobish and mind-numbingly elementary question, but what might i be programming that would be better written in java than c++? and why?

3 AnswersTechnology1 decade agoMy heatsink won't screw in?
So i unscrewed the cpu heatsink to take it off for cleaning. After doing this, the thing still wouldn't come off so i just used compressed air to clean it. [Worked like magic to bring the temperatures down :) ]
Anyway, when i tried to put the four screws back in, they wouldn't screw. I just turned and turned but the threads weren't catching on anything. I CANNOT figure out why. When i took them out there was definitely some resistance so i know they were firmly screwed at Some point.
I'm very scared that i broke the heatsink-housing-component-thing. can anyone help me figure out how to put the screws back in?
Computer Information:
all i can tell you is that it's a gateway gt5656 I don't know what the heatsink is.
Here are two images of the screws that won't go in. They're the one's in the black ring around where the cpu would go. These are very similar to my computer's.

2 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoDo You Have Career Suggestions?
I'm in need of career advice. I'm really only interested in physics although i'm not sure which branch in particular really.I've only taken a first year class in which we mostly covered basic mechanics like motion equations and box-sliding-on-a-slope type problems. So all i know i want to go into a line of work in which a knowledge of physics would be central, and i'd rather stay away from sort of mundane stuff. however i'm certainly not expecting the work to be filled with wild adventure either. Anyway, if you have suggestions, i'd love to hear them. I'd appreciate it if you could briefly describe what i'd actually be doing with all the job titles. One problem i've found with career websites is that the information is too vague. Thanks in advance.

1 AnswerChemistry1 decade agoHow similar is C++ to Objective-C?
I know a little c++,(i'm learning), and i'm wandering if that means i know a little Objective-C too. are teh languages similar? would knowing c++ make learning objective c easier? i'm interested in writin apps for the iphone, and they're written in objective c.
By the way, what i mean by similiar is this:
would cout<<"hi"<<endl; do the same on both languages?
I mean know they won't match perfectly but are they similar? Please excuse the rambling. thanks in advance
3 AnswersProgramming & Design1 decade agoIs there a way to display the graph of a function in c++ code?
you know how you can program graphing calulators? Well i'm writing programs for mine that simulates the motion of a falling object by determining what x and y are at a given time then plotting them. Then time changes and so does (x,y), and the end result is sort of an animation of a dot falling like a real object. Anyway I'm geting tired of doing this on my calulator and i'm not sure if it's language is complex enough to take the project any further so i'd like to switch to c++. Is there any way i can very quickly output successive graphs like this with c++ code?
Sorry if that was confusing...
1 AnswerProgramming & Design1 decade agoWhy are you so damn calm?
How do you reconcile yourself with your eminent death? Why are you all so happy, honestly i'm at a loss to understand the mass calm that graces the race. Hysteria, desperation, depression, anger, incommunicable horror; these are what i expect to find on the faces of every person that's even vaguely aware of their mortality, but everyone seems at ease. How do they pull that off? How do you pull that off? I really need to know.
10 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoHow can you bear this?
How can you bear this?
Doesn't an immense sadness come over you when you think about dying? I don't believe that an afterlife exists. So for me, dying is the end, and i'm not sure if many people stop to consider the full import of that phrase: the End. Of your consciousness. I quite literally CANNOT BARE to think about this for more than a very few minutes at a time before i begin to cry, (as i am now), so I distract myself with anything i can, as quickly as i can when ever my thoughts stray toward that awfulness. It's pathetic, makes me feel disgusted with myself for being so weak. But honestly how do others react to thoughts like that? Do they even have them? If so, it's incomprehensible to me that so many people can seemingly be immune to the sadness and desperation and fear and hopelessness that I feel almost constantly. What point can anything have if such a thing as death exists, rushes at you, unstoppable,to end your consciousness? How do you others bare this? I really NEED to know. please.
I don't believe someone who genuinely believes in the existence of an afterlife can really understand the way I feel, and i'd really appreciate it if no one's answers attempted to persuade me to accept god. Answers from atheists would be most welcome, but I just want to know how others handle thoughts about death emotionally or intellectually. I'm looking for anything that can help me step away from the sadness that defines my life right now.
6 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoI Need some physics advise?
Alright so I'm in high school and have taken physics. This year i'm in chem. and next year i'll be taking AP physics, but I'm interested in independently learning a bit more physics in the meantime. I'm just looking for some guidance in regards to a curriculum I should follow. I don't need an in depth plan or anything, just maybe some topics you think i should cover and the order in which it would be easiest to cover them. I'm aware that physics is a very diverse field, please just do you best and narrow it down a bit.
Topics i've already covered include:
velocity and acceleration
angular v and a
forces to some extent (i'm sure there's much more for me to learn)
string tensions
projectiles
Thanks to anyone who answers.

3 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoMy computer KILLS monitors!? please help?
Alright so i've got this moderately old computer. It's running xp if that matters. So a while ago my monotor just stopped working, i'm pretty sure it happened after i restarted because that's how it happend the second time. Anyway, the tower turns on just fine but the monitor just won't turn on. It's completely dead. Not thinking it was the computer that was killing monitors, i took the tower downstairs to my other computer to get my data until i could find a new monitor. so i plug everything up and this monitor won't turn on either! . After unpugging it from the bad tower and wall, and then reataching it to my working tower it worked though. Not the case with the first broken monitor. Then my dad got me another monitor for my computer, and it worked fine. But yesterday i stupidly restarted my computer and now THIS monitor is dead too!! Nothing i do will make it turn on this time. I'd really appreciate some advice on what this might be caused by. So far my theory is a problem with the power source, maybe it's giving the monitor too much juice on startup and sort of frying it? ANY help wouild be wonderful; i really want to get this thing fixed. I must stop the Monitor Killer!.
Important for me to emphasize that the monitor will no longer turn on. At all. it's not that it won't display the computer's gui, it just won't turn on. And it's not the outlet or something because it happened on two discrete occasions with different monitors and outlets, but the same damn tower.
