  • How do I expand (2-x)^2?

What's throwing me off with this problem is that it actually is saying (-x+2)^2

If it was (x-2)^2, it'd simply be x^2-4x+4.

  • Could the situation from the 1975 Soviet Film, "The Irony of Fate", actually happen in the USSR?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Irony_of_Fate

Bascially, a guy from Moscow gets drunk and ends up on a flight to Leningrad. He goes to an identical appartment building and is even able to unlock the door to 'his' room. Was this actually the case with apartments in the Soviet Union? Could you really go to an identical apartment in a different city and unlock the door to where your room would be at your apartment?

  • How do you tip someone with a credit card?

I know this may seem like a stupid question, but I've never used a credit card to, in this case, pay for a haircut. Do you just tell the person, oh add $4.00 to the bill, or do they automatically do the tip for you?

  • Who here thinks that Mitt Romney doesn't look 65?

I was surprised to learn that he was born in 1947. He looks more like someone that was born in 1960.

  • If people established a permanent colony on Mars, would there be a new calendar there?

And especially if Mars were to one day be terraformed. Would there be a new, seperate calendar for those living on Mars? Mars' year is longer than the Earth's, basically almost twice as long.

So would there be like a 24 month calendar and would they say it is currently year 2095 on Earth and year 1 on Mars. And people would have an average lifespan of say 40 Mars Years, or like 80 Earth years.

  • Do you think you'll be alive in the year 2080?

    I'll be 86 years old so there's probably like a 33% chance I'll be alive in 2080.

  • Does anyone here remember the Cuban missile crisis?

I'm just wondering if anyone here is old enough to truly remember the Cuban Missile Crisis. What was it like? Did people truly believe that they weren't going to wake up soon, that the world had finally reached doomsday?

  • Doesn't it blow your mind how much things change over time?

I was just watching a home video of my house and neighborhood in 2000 and back then all the trees were half their current sizes, fences were up that have long since been torn down, while new ones have gone up where there was once open grass. New trees and gardens have been planted and have thrived, while other trees have died and the grass has overtaken their spots, masking that there ever were trees there.

Furniture has moved around inside of my house. New things have been bought while some old things are gone. In the home video there was a brand new purchased book that I can remember always having. Deck furniture has been rearranged and a trumpet vine now grows on the side when there was once absolutely nothing there. Now there are also two large apple trees in the garden.

Half the houses in the video were occupied by different people at the time. All the cars that passed by were mid-1990s model and even a car that looked to be from around 1988 or 1989 went by on the road.

Man things sure do change a lot as time continues to pass. I wonder what the world and everything will be like in 2024. So my question is, doesn't it blow your mind how much things change over time?

  • How do I list my education on Facebook as "studies at" and not "studied at"?

Facebook merely asks in my education profile, where did you go to school? There's no option of where are you currently attending? I tried to list my current college and unchecked the graduated box, yet it still comes up on my profile as "studied at ___ University". I've seen that other people have it as "studies at _______ University", as in the present tense. How do I set it as that?

  • Do you ever think about how in the future you'll be interacting with people that haven't been born yet?

I just thought about how, especially in twenty, thirty years I could be working with someone at my future job that hasn't even been born yet- that future co-worker could be born in 2013 for example. And if I ever have kids one day then obviously they haven't been born yet either.

  • Does it amaze you that out of all the possibilities you were born as you?

For example, I was born in 1994 in the United States. I could have easily been born in North Africa in 1532 or in Europe in 2050 or in China in 1829. Instead, out of all of these possibilities, I ended up being born as me, in the US in 1994.

  • Did you ever meet someone born in the 1800s?

I read recently that there are only around 20 people left in the world that were born in the 1890s. For older people here, do you remember meeting people that were born in the 1800s (probably in the 1890s)?

  • Does anyone have any idea what this song is?

There's a guitar that goes duh duh duh duh da da duh duh duh and then there's a chorus line that sounds like they are saying heeeey (maybe something like I wanna play) heey

And then it goes back to the guitar duh duh duh duh da da duh duh duh. It sounds very 1960s (I'm pretty sure that's when the song is from).

  • Why do I keep on getting more and more deja vu?

I keep on getting so much deja vu lately. I'll look at something and I'm convinced that I dreamed about it before or that I even already saw it. Like now I just got a text and then as I was writing my response, I could have sworn I got this same text a month ago and that how I was responding was exactly how I was responding to it 'before'. It's starting to really worry me to the point where I'm even questioning whether or not I've already lived this life before (probably seen too many movies lol). Anyway why does this keep happening to me?

  • Would you time travel if it meant jumping off the chrysler building?

Just like in Men in Black 3. I don't know if I'd have the guts to jump off the legde of the chrysler like in the movie. Though I would love to time travel and it'd be cool to see everything changing around me as I fell, but still, ahhhhhhh....

  • Why do I usually suddenly fall asleep so early?

This is starting to get annoying. The past few months I suddenly will just get dead tired as early as 8:00pm or 9:00pm and I will just crash and NOTHING can wake me up. I will end up waking up on the floor at 3:00am and then I'll go to bed and wake up at 6:00am for school. It really sucks because I have contacts, so my eyes always feel kind of crappy when I am stumbling up to bed at 3:00am. What can I do to fix this? Generally I get eight hours of sleep, so I don't know why I suddenly just crash.
