Why do the countries of the former Yugoslavia produce so many top athletes ?
In football especially Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, seem to produce top athletes disproportionate to the small populations of these countries. How come?

2 AnswersMovies7 years agoInitial PT test for armed forces?
I am applying for a position in the navy reserve as a NCIOP. I have not yet been offered the job and have my aptitude test, pt test, and job interview next week.
I understand that there is the EXPRES test to evaluate fitness. What I am not clear about is whether or not this the same test I will have to go through next week after my aptitude test. Will I have to meet the same standards as the EXPRES test? Or is the EXPRES test only for those about to immediately enter BMQ?
I have been working on my fitness a lot lately (lost about 40lbs) but am not entirely confident that at this juncture I can meet the EXPRES standard.
Thanks.

"If in the army there is one officer for every 16 privates, how many officers are there in a regiment consisting of 1105 officers and privates?"
4 AnswersMathematics7 years agoWhy are Russian jets cheaper than NATO equivalents?
Can someone link me to information about why Russia can build and sell MIGs and Sukhois for 30-50% the price of what an equal American or European jet would cost? Information that explains whether the Russians have a better design and construction process, or is it that American and EU companies are especially inefficient or just milking the taxpayers?

Just wondering what a fair estimate would be to fix a seat belt that doesn't retract properly (parts and labour)

I have a 1996 Pontiac so obviously it doesn't have a USB connection. What changes can I make to be able to play music from my ipod on the car speakers?
2 AnswersCar Audio8 years agoNew to the world of Pontiac. Tips?
Hi, just got a 96 Bonneville. Really excited about it. I've been driving Civics my whole life and this is quite a change. One thing I forgot to ask the seller is how important, if at all, is it to use premium gas? Will I be better off spending the extra cash? To my knowledge premium gas only benefits really high compression engines, and I don't know if the 3.8L is at that threshold.
And any general words of advice for someone new to the brand?
Thanks.
3 AnswersPontiac8 years agoWhy were American car designs so ugly from the mid 70s-80?
Look at the timelines from any US car brand over time and it goes like this : fantastic looking cars from the 50s, 60s, then a slight dip in attractiveness in 1971, and then nose diving around 74/75, never to recover until the late 80s. Maybe later. What in the minds was wrong with designers then? And Europe and Japan made beautiful looking cars during this era, so it isn't like everything looked bad at the time.
6 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation8 years agoWhy are Americans trapped in a left/right mindset?
The USA has one more political party than the former USSR. Most democracies realize the necessity of multiple parties to foster real dialoge. Most countries have at least 3 or 4 influential national parties. One of the advantages of this being that people are less likely to box themselves into rigid political dogmas. The US leans toward painting everything into black and white, with no shades of grey. There can only be two approaches to every problem - the liberal or conservative way. Why do so many Americans fail to see issues beyond such a simplistic prism?
4 AnswersCivic Participation8 years agoWhy did Reagan ignore Milton Friedman on "the war on drugs"?
Milton Friedman was a major advocate of ending drug prohibition, which is consistent with his overall economic philosophy. Reagan is depicted as being influenced by Friedman in economic policy, yet escalated the war on drugs to an unprecedented level which was entirely inconsistent with libertarian economics. Why?

2 AnswersEnglish Football (Soccer)8 years agoWhich, if any, new cars have rack and pinion steering systems?
I've driven quite a few different models recently, and I find that the steering on a lot of new cars is what I consider inferior to my old civic which has a rack and pinion system. By inferior I mean less road feel, and not the right degree of stiffness. (And I'm not talking about cheap new cars either - Volvos, Mercs, etc)

It's not like he doesn't have good players around him in the national team. Yet he doesn't come close to matching his Madrid form.

3 AnswersEconomics8 years agoWhy was Russian lit so much better than Victorian English lit?
Tolstoy, Gogol, Dostoyevsky, Turgenev... all of them better than anything England ever produced (let alone during the 19th century).
Why were the Russians so great at writing during that particular time in history?

Sappy PBS costume dramas have given me a prejudice against Jane Austen, and by extension much other Victorian lit. But I feel I should give a fair chance to the books. Which of these writers is best ?
