  • (Tattoo artists preferred) 1st tattoo question. Outline necessary?

I have a design for a tattoo, based on a personal spiritual experience. The design is a red ribbon going down my back with bear paw prints going up inside. Inside the prints are spirals, they are also red. My question is, is a black outline necessary or will the color spread and bleed if there is no outline? If I need an outline would a darker red work or even brown? I would prefer no outline as I'm trying to keep it primitive looking, but if it will help in keeping the color where it's supposed to be then I would do it. I have asked friends with tattoos, but have gotten mixed answers, so this is why I'm here. Would size matter also? I was thinking an inch to two inches wide and it would go from the top to the bottom of my back. I'd go a little wider if I needed to though I'd prefer it didn't get too wide. This would be my first tattoo and so any help would be most appreciated. Also can anyone recommend a good shop and artist in Northern Kentucky or Cincinnati. If they have a website let me know as I want to look at their portfolio of work and get a sense of their style. I'd ordinarily ask this anyway, but this is very special and I won't let just anyone do this. Thank you in advance.
