I have a quad i7 laptop with nvidia gt645m GPU. Ive just run mass effect 2 on it and it seemed to handle it well, game play was fluid on max settings but my fan has also been running on max all the way through - should I be worried about this or, the more likely, are they designed for the fan to be enough?

Having some problems with an orange brightbox. 2 different websites including http://www.speedtest.net/ state I have a download speed of 6-7 mbs BUT when downloading on steam with nothing else running im seeing an average of 600 kbs. streaming videos also often stops for no reason and does not start again.

This cant be right. Ive changed loads of settings to try and fix it on the router. the wireless mode is on 11b+11g+11n, the channel is on 11, the bandwidth is 20/40Hz, the security is WPA and ive tried disabling the router firewall just to see if it did anything - it did not. Steam games still currently downloading at a nice 400 kbs. Its not my laptop because others do the same.

ive just made my IP static and then went to - cmd and typed configip to get my LAN IP

Then went back to router and went NAT>PORT FORWARDING and used tcp&udp on the LAN IP with LAN and PUBLIC ports set to 21.

Then I went port triggers and made the trigger port 21 and public port 21. I chose TCP for both types.

And after all this my transfer rate between the router and laptop has not gone up -.-

Anyone know why?

pinged using cmd to my router and got between 4ms and 6ms averaging at 5ms. Ive got an orange brightbox and my internet connection seems to be very slow.

For instance when downloading games from steam my download rate is around 700kbs when I am the only user on the network and Im not downloading anything else.

Logging into the routers settings and accessing the status pages tells me:

Downstream Rate: 8128kbps

So I have to question why I am seeing less than 10% of this in use when the hub and my laptop both support and use 11b+11g+11n wireless modes. I have set the channel to 11 and the bandwidth to 20/40MHz and nothing. I even disabled the firewall on the hub for a bit to test another problem which is that streaming videos on 1channel links work for a bit and then stop streaming.

Ive also noted that steam sometimes will not connect when I try to login and then does the second attempt.

Any ideas please?

They basically have the same components but the MSI has an 8% graphics card. So really Im asking about toshiba vs MSI.

The tosh is a refurb but I could buy new on ebay for exactly the same price as the MSI here.

Getting an i7 quad core laptop and i usually use my laptop laying on my bed. Little concerned over heat so i was thinking about some sort of cooling stand or pad to lay on my bed.

Ebay just shows Little tables and stuff which i dont want. I just want to make sure the system has enough venting. Name a product please?

Ive been posting these questions a lot lately but I want to get the best buy as ill have it for 3+ years for casual gaming and work. Circumstances not allowing for a desktop. I want that resolution as i watch lots of dvd streams and 1080p screws them up.

is the extra money worth it? What would you do?

Theyre the same but different GPU. Casual gaming. Price is important.

Theres a laptop i have my eye on, great specs (i5 with a high clock, 8GB RAM, etc) but it has a 635m GPU. Its only £440 new.

Should I buy it? The step up to the 640M will mean a different system entirely and will be about £200 more.

I watch a lot of DVD streams online. I also like to play games. My last 1080p screen made the dvd quality streams very grainy. Would simply turning down the resolution fix this?

640M 1GB GPU - but from what i gather the 1 GB VRAM wont make much difference.

I say budget gaming - I mean for a casual gaming experience. More of a multimedia laptop really as i watch a lot of dvd rips online and with my last 1080p screen they looked grainy and horrible (too many pixels I guess, turning down the resolution didnt seem to help.).

Id like to play games like crisis 3, diablo 3 and guild wars 2 but Im not fussed about ultra settings (obviously) as long as I can get a steady 30+ FPS on medium settings Ill be happy.

Laptop below has a 2GB GT635M GPU but Id like to see what else I could get for about £500. Just returned a laptop due to terrible AMD drivers so no AMD please :P

Im looking at a GT635 GPU for a laptop. It is only a 1 Gig card - will this lower the FPS a lot more than a slightly worse card with 2Gig RAM?

Got a 1080p matt non reflective screen. Internet videos (e.g. dvd rips on 1 channel) look grainy and horrible. Is it because of the screen resolution having more pixels than the 480p dvd rips?

I bought a dell inspiron 15r SE with both intel HD 4000 and a radeon AMD 7730M GPU.

Problem is i was doing a bunch of windows updates and it seems to have ruined me. My option for switchable graphics in the radeon control catalyst center disappeared and I have a windows update problem:

storage controller - intel(r) 7 series chipset family sata ahci controller wont install.

After this wouldnt install i checked the catalyst controller center and the switchable graphics had disappeared. So I uninstalled the GPU driver and the catalyst control center. I have reinstalled the GPU driver from dells website for this particular gpu but i cant find on the AMD site where to download the catalyst control center!

Can someone help please? My OS is windows 8.

As I understand it this GPU will plays skyrim on high settings at 30 fps.

My concern is that with the new xbox and playstation hitting stores soon game requirements will also be bumped up.

I should still be able to play almost all new games for the 2 years on medium settings right?
