3 AnswersOther - United Kingdom1 decade agoCracked rib or just bruised?
This morning I came off one of my horses and seem to of landed on my ribs (at my waist) along the side of my body as thats where I have taken off the most skin. Although I was initially winded I can breath fine (deep breaths a bit uncomfortable) but am sore particularly when lifting things, with either arm. This is my living so I can't just take a few weeks off. If i grin and bare it & carry on as normal is this likely to get worse? Does it sound like just bruising?
P.S - I don't fancy spending hours in AE to be told there's nothing they can do.
Thanks
6 AnswersInjuries1 decade agoHow do you stop a pony jumping out of her field?
My 13.2hh 23yo retired jumping pony has recently had laminitus for the first time and now has to live in a fenced off area of the field to keep her off the lush grass (which is awaiting farmer to cut for hay) She is out with my horse and there are no other horses in the fields. It is electric fencing and has the highest stakes I could buy, the fence stands at 4' 6''. Problem is she just trots up and pops over it like its nothing and then eats as much lush grass as she can before she will eventually let me catch her and put her back in where we start the process again. Any ideas what I can do to deter her?
17 AnswersHorses1 decade agoDo you ride out on the roads? Feel safe?
Just wondering how many of you regularly hack out on the roads in the UK? Do you ride alone? Do you feel safe?
I keep my horses at home and to get to the woods means riding along a busy, fast roads for a good mile. I rode all my previous horses and ponys along it (although i never enjoyed it) but the traffic seems to get faster every year and the drivers seem to have even less common sense, which has resulted in me having several near misses. I currently have a young horse who is sharp and spooky and there is no way i could hack him out on the road and make it back unscathed but i think horses learn a lot from hacking & it is an important part of their mental wellbeing. My friend has a yard with direct access to bridleways however you can't go very far without having to do some road work on narrow bendy lanes to get from one wood to the next.
Do you think that the roads are no longer safe for horses and i should stick to just schooling, riding round the fields and going to shows? or do you think i should move him to my friends where i could try and introduce him to hacking in company?
Thank you.
13 AnswersHorses1 decade agoPower steering problem in mercedes 1617?
The steering in my lorry is squeaking and becomes very difficult to steer (it goes really heavy and shakes) although it only happens when going at slow speeds. Also having problems getting the cab to tilt (i think because it hasn't be done for so long) so it maybe difficult to get to the belt etc. Any ideas what this could be and how much getting it fixed is likely to cost?
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoImporting HGV from NI back to UK?
I bought an HGV which the seller didn't have a log book for. I filled out the form form the dvla to get a replacement but they advised me that as the vehicle had been registered in Northern Ireland they couldn't replace it. After having spoken to several different people at dvla and the dvla in NI everyone seems to tell me something different.
The vehicle is over 10 years old.
It was originally registered over here and has uk number plates
I have a current vosa mot (plating) taken in the uk
The dvla NI were advised that the lorry was exported back to the uk
It is currently off the road, as it has no tax and i cant tax it without the log book.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
