  • Should I go by a nickname in college?

My name is Victoria, and for the first 12 years of my life I went by Vicky, but when I moved to America it kinda faded. I'm thinking about introducing myself as Vicky in college, because Victoria is just so formal and long, and most people here call me Vic, and i prefer Vicky to Vic. My last name is also extremely long and formalish, I would especially welcome advice from people from the UK, as I am moving there for school. But anyone, please, what do you prefer? I never liked Tori, and should I spell it with an i or a y at the end? I would obviously use Victoria as my professional name, on documents, and applications and stuff, but I was thinking of just transferring to Vicky among casual company permanently.

  • How can I get on the pill?

My mom is super against sex before marriage, I am almost 17, and when I am seventeen, i am just thinking about becoming sexually active. I am a pretty responsible person, so I want to use condoms and the pill. If my mother knew I was even thinking about this she would make me break up with my bf, and probably never let me leave the house again. She just thinks that sex before marriage is evil. My boyfriend really turns me on, and i really want to be with him. So, how can i get the pill, my towns nearest planned parenthood is 45 min away, and I cant exactly go to my doctor because then i would get a prescription which my mom would know about. So any advice of how i can go about this?

  • What should I name my new horse?

I am getting a Dutch Warmblood X Anglo-Arab mare, she is grey, extremely pretty, and has no name. She's only six years old, she is elegant, and I want to give her a really good name, but I'm like drawing a blank. I would like to give her a classy elegant name, and I hope you would have some great ideas! :) Well, let me know if you have any ideas.

  • Should I ask to lease the horse?

There is a mare I really like at the barn I used to ride at, I had some problems with my trainer, but she acts okay towards me now. I want to ask her if I can lease this mare, I am off farm lease. But I don't know if she would do an off farm lease. The mare has Marish problems, but I believe with a supplement, she would be okay.(She is always in heat, and a complete ***** when she is) Should I even ask, do you think she would say no? The mare is for sale anyway, so why not ask about a lease.

  • What type of blankets should my horse have?

I live in Western Pennsylvania, and it gets bellow zero degrees farenheit on some days, and it's rather cold almost all winter. I'm getting a horse, and I was wondering what type of blankets I should get for him/her. I have a general idea, because I used to work at a farm, but they didn't turn most of their horses out. (Eventers are too expensive I guess)

  • Barn name for Morgan Arab gelding?

Hey, I might be buying a Morgan Arab cross (Morab) and he comes with the name Chico.... Well, I am German, not Spanish, and can barely pronounce the ch part of Chico when I'm not trying. I pronounce it with a sh sound. So, I want to change it, and I would like it to be fun and cute, he is about 15 hh, but pony names are fine. I was thinking the name Super Nova, and Nova as a barn name, but my sister has dibbs, and she would be mad, if I named my horse that. So any ideas, I like names that come from something, like songs, or phrases, or famous people names, like Presidents, or kings and queens.

  • Paying my horses board?

Hey, as you might know from previous questions, I am 15 years old, an intermediate rider, and buying my own horse. When we started looking into buying horses, I decided to pay my own board, I told my mom this, she finds it reasonable, of course, it saves her money(: So, I have been babysitting (shudders) all summer, and found a job at Chick-fil-A to afford my own board, one issue, I don't think I am going to have enough hours at Chick-fil-A to pay my board, I can't use stable work as board reduction, because, even though I like it better than babysitting, my barn doesn't offer this luxury. Board is $320 a month, not including feed. How do you suggest I go about making more money, It has taken me two years to make 340 bucks babysitting, because` one, I don't like tiny children, I like them at least five, and two I don't get that many jobs, I have four families that I am always their first choice (go figure that most of their kids are under five), but they never go out!!! They only need a sitter a few times a year!!!

SO, Teens that had to pay their own horses bills, how did/do you afford this? I am, because of the law only allowed to work one job, and this is the only barn I can use. Its two miles away from my house, and has a small indoor, and a large outdoor, and is cheaper than most others. The stalls are huge, and I think I would like it there. I can still babysit, but seriously, I hate it, and even though I will continue, I don't get many jobs, except this summer I had a weekly gig. sorry for the long explanation, just want to see what you all did.

  • Looking at an Arab Morgan Cross?

I'm looking to buy an Arab Morgan cross, any one know what they act like, is it worth going to see him if he's 16, is he too old? I'm planning on doin show jumping, dressage, and maybe cross country. Also fun stuff though, so he can't be a complete cannon. Here is the link to the add. Tell me what you think, I know what Arabs are like, just not Morgan's.

  • How to get into showing?

I do not have a real trainer, I'm taking the occasional lesson, but not always with the same person, while I'm horse shopping. I left my old trainer about a year ago, an I'm not going back. How do I get into shows, like dressage, show jumping, combined tests, and even equitation (never done it, but looks fun) when I get my own horse. With my old trainer, she would know when the shows were, and know everyone there, and she knew the procedures. Neither of the people I'm taking lessons with could be my full time trainer, as one is a horse trainer, that is doing me a favor, and the other is a professional dressage rider that doesn't have the time.

  • Colleges with Equestrian programs?

I am looking for a college that has an equestrian program, I know the University of Findlay does, but that is super expensive, are there any colleges that are more affordable, and have a good, program? I do not care what state it is in, but I would prefer not in Pennsylvania.

  • What do you think of this name?

I had previously asked what I should name my new pony, and I have found a new name, and thought, might as well get an opinion on it. Eleonore or Eleanore not sure of which spelling yet, as her more official name, and Ellie for short. What do you think? And maybe Eleonore von Diamant as a show name if we ever did shows.

  • How long should I give my pony to settle in?

This all happened way faster than we expected, but my new pony is coming Friday, (if she does fine in the pre-purchase, and her coggins come back negative) and I will not be around from Saturday until Sunday 15 days later. My family is going out west, and the pony was a little unplanned. I have someone scheduled to come check on her almost everyday and take her out and groom her and lounge her, but I don't want anyone else riding her until I have had the chance, so she can get used to me as her rider. So can I ride her Friday? Just like a little walk, maybe? I was thinking just a little bit, but I don't know, She's my first pony, and even though I have been riding and working around horses for eleven years, we never got many new horses at my barn, and when they came they usually weren't ride able anyway, they were more often one year olds, or seven year old stallions that weren't broke. The pony has a very quiet disposition, but she is still green, and needs finishing, so is it wise to ride her on the first day? Her previous owner rode her on the second day, so I don't know.

  • Passoa Saddle? Any good?

I have a rather older Passoa saddle, it was a gift from a friend who rode when she was younger. She is about the age my grandmother would be. The saddle has some quirks, it seems to have a bit of mold, but I cleaned it, and it seems to be gone, and it wasn't bothering the saddle, it was just inbetween the different parts. Are passoa saddles any good new? Will this saddle be okay for a while until I can get a newer one?

  • Teaching my horse to canter?

I am buying a 7 year old pony that is really good at walk and trot, but doesn't canter yet, I am a fully capable rider for her, I just haven't trained a horse by myself before, how do you teach them to canter? She canters on the lounge line, she was just a little kids pony all her life, so she never learned to canter, and the horses I have helped train were either not to the point that we were cantering yet, or already did it, just needed more milage, and more practice.

  • What should I name my pony?

My parents and I are together investing In a pony, she is a liver chestnut, so she is very dark chestnut, and she is 14hh, so she's pretty small. Her name right now is Kit, but I don't think she knows it. She didn't really respond to it when I tried her out, and she's only 7, so I think she can figure it out. I'm thinking...

    Kate,

    Kelly,

    Jessie,

    Joy,

    Annie,

    Happy,

    or Funny.

What do you think, feel free to add your own ideas. She isn't really small though, because she's half haflinger. She's stocky.

  • How do you measure a bit?

I have been around horses my whole life, but have never had to know what size a bit is, because I have never had my own horse, I have always ridden everyone else's! And they already had bit and bridle, so should it say on the bit? I have never noticed that, if it does, or do you take a measuring tape and find out how many inches?

  • What is Navicular, exactly?

I am looking at a quarter horse that has navicular, I think I have decided against the quarter horse, but I am also looking at another quarter horse haflinger mix, so, What exactly is navicular, its genetic right? Are there tests for it? In a pre-purchase exam with the vet, can I ask her to check for it? Speaking of, how much does a pre-purchase exam cost and what does it usually include?

  • Have you ever played soccer with your horse?

I read about it in a book, playing mounted soccer, like with a big exercise ball. I don't know exactly how it would work, but have you done this? Any tips, clues, ideas?

  • Can I change a horses name?

My parents are finally after ten years, looking into buying me a horse, the horse we are most interested in comes with the name sally, I personally dont like the name for a horse, she is 17 years old, so would it be terrible to change the name? To call her something pretty like Rose, or something fun like Kit Kat? I have known horses that have had their names changed, but they were mostly younger.
