  • Access fee to work with leased horse?

Has anyone heard of a stable charging an access fee to someone coming to ride a leased horse? This is not a fee charged to a professional trainer for use of facilities, but a per visit charge to someone coming to the stable to ride the horse they are leasing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Vets Only: Use of Oral Tetracycline for Lyme?

My horse is under treatment for Lyme disease, so I have been reading about the treatment of Lyme disease in horses.

The published recommendations I have found recommend the use of IV tetracycline rather than oral (doxycycline, which is a structural variant of tetracycline seems to be recommended for oral dosing). If oral doses are used, the bioavailability of tetracycline in the horse seems to be lower (58-77%, decreased by food) and there is some concern about related colic.

I have seen one horse treated with oral tetracycline and his ELISA titer decreased.

Are there situations where you recommend oral tetracycline, and, if so, why?

Does the bioavailability of tetracycline reach high enough levels at 2x per day of 1 tbsp to kill the Lyme bacteria?

Thanks in advance for your help!
