  • Is what this client is asking completely illegal? UK VAT law question.?

    I've given a client a £3k invoice.

    He called up and is asking me to re-write the invoice to display £2553.19 + 17.5% VAT = total £3k.

    I'm not VAT registered.

    He said he wants the invoice, and he'll pay me, I presume so he can claim back the VAT. He said I just keep a normal invoice without the VAT for my records and erase the one with VAT on it after I email it to him.

    Am I correct in thinking this is totally illegal and he's being a bit of a sneaky bugger?
